OMG, thanks so much for all the comments!

It looks like this batch is getting mixed reviews, as I expected.
stevyy wrote:some - sorry - awful songs in there..
mine again is a scream fest.. i never play it.
cruise control: mariah's reggae verses are cringe worthy.
x-girlfriend: bland, and forgettable
crybaby: the only song i'd still listen to. the video is hot.
after tonight: despite being a my all rehash.. it has a cute melody. I think it's underrated and easly one of the better songs on rainbow.
Aw, I'm sad that you don't really like the songs from this batch.
swiftie13 wrote:Some of these songs are just too high! :

Up Outta My Face is horrible IMO.. but Mine Again is easily the best from these two batches! After Tonight is good too though not as good as My All
Sure "After Tonight" was a shameless attempt at recreating the epic "My All", but it wasn't
too far off from that masterpiece.
Shortie wrote:Mine Again and Stay The Night are my favourite songs from TEOM.
***started discovering E=MC. Like it, but all the songs seem to follow the same formula. Cruise Control reminds me a little of Touch My Body, but is better.

. Anyway, I think I will still like TEOM more.***
Up Out My Face is way too high.

I played Bye Bye to death back when it was released, that's why I can't listen to a single note right now.
Did you listen to "For The Record"? I love that song.
Tripolis wrote: "Cruise Control" : I mean, SERIOUSLY? One of Mariah's worst songs ever. Will probably be last in my Mariah countdown.
0/10 "Mine Again" : One of the better non-singles of "The Emancipation of Mimi", I still think you ranked it too high. The last chorus and verse are epic.
7/10 "X-Girlfriend" :

This song is an insult to Mariah's amazing discography.
2/10 "Crybaby" : Not gonna lie, this is my least-played Mariah single ever. It isn't that particularly amazing or suited to my taste, though I have to admit it is a good track. You still ranked it too high.
6/10 "After Tonight" : This is one of the more decent tracks off the parent album. It isn't as bad as "X-Girlfriend", nor as good as "Mine Again", but still decent. You ranked it too high.
5/10 I disagree with all of your rankings in this batch. The first time it has happened in this countdown
And it's a shame that it's happening so high up!

But I think the next batch will make up for this "underwhelming" set.
phoenix98 wrote:"Cruise Control" = yeah...it's not the worst track on
E=MC2...but it's still waayyy too high! I think her Jamaican accent is a bit ridiculous. the
"c-r-u-i-s-e control" bits are catchy, tho.
"Mine Again" = as you said, this is definitely pretty soulful, has an old-school-R&B flavor to it. I like that she really tries to show off her vocals.
"X-Girlfriend" = I knew you loved
Rainbow...but...really?

like "Cruise Control", it's not terrible, but this is waayyy too generous. it's cute, but definitely filler. the way she sings the end of the bridge is probably...definitely...the best bit of the song:
"our love's too strong, for you to penetrate, it's too late, he's not your baby no more..." "Crybaby" = now THIS is one of the highlights of
Rainbow and deserves to be this high (if not higher). I know Mariah was pulling for "Can't Take That Away", but I think this could've been a proper hit if it had gotten all the focus as the 3rd
Rainbow single.
"After Tonight" = it's good...for a "My All" re-hash...but way too high here. there's definitely better ballads on
Rainbow ("Thank God I Found You", "Against All Odds").

at the unanimous hatred for "Cruise Control"! I'm glad that you at least agreed with my ranking for "Crybaby" and as for those two
Rainbow ballads, they're yet to come.
leoapp wrote:Cruise Control - This one is a cool song from E=MC2, i can't stand the rap part but the song is really moving, i like the reggae influence
Mine Again - One of the better songs on TEOM, however i wish she didn't force those high belting notes, should've been softer imo. Still, i love the flute sound in this song.
X-Girlfriend - I like this, the beat is quite catchy, too high on your list though. I love Rainbow album by the way, easily among my top 5 album of her!
Crybaby - This one is such a cool slow urban jam, the beat, the melody, Snopp's rap, all are perfect. But it'd better if the duration wasn't too long. One of the best from Rainbow.
After Tonight - I totally love this, one of my all time favorite non singles from her. It looks similar to My All, but imo it has its own league. The best non single from Rainbow!
Yay! A fan of "Cruise Control"! And I'm glad you seem to be generally pleased with this batch's rankings.
GoodBoyGoneBad wrote:Cruise Control and X-Girlfriend are both very catchy.
Woohoo! More "Cruise Control" love. I'm even happier you like "X-Girlfriend".
ForeverYoung wrote:I'm really sorry I forgot about your Mimi chart, JSparksFan. I never visit this section of the site.
Cruise Control - Not one of my personal faves on
E=MC2 but I appreciate her effort of exploring reggae sounds.
Mine Again - This is a perfect example of how to wreck your throat in 4 minutes.

...unless you have Mariah's vocal chops that is. LOVE this song. <3
X-Girlfriend - This sounds quite dated these days IMO, but it's a cool song.
Crybaby - One of my favorites on
Rainbow. Her jazzy vocalizations at the end>>>>
After Tonight - I know plenty of fans dismiss this as a "My All" rehash, but I personally love it. Very emotional song IMO. Quite high you placed this one I must say. Interesting...

Aw, that's okay. All that matters is that you're here now.
I'm glad we're pretty much in agreement with this set and you're right, "Mine Again" is one heck of a song to attempt to sing. I would know as I tried...and failed.
ANH wrote:I've neglected this chart for so long. I'm making a comeback though..and will try to chime in.
"Lullaby" is a cute song. I always liked it. It's one of the standouts on Charmbracelet!
"Fantasy" at 78? I'm dead.
"Forever" is an amazing song. I like it a lot. I liked the Hawaiian feel to it.
"Never Too Far" is one of the highlights on Glitter.
"The Beautiful Ones" is simply amazing!! The ending is just...SPEECHLESS.
I'm actually listening to the remix of "The One" at the moment. The original is cute. But the remix is LEAGUES ahead. The little back-and-forth Mariah and JD do is so cute.
"I'm That Chick" is the definition of a cute track.
"All In Your Mind" is AMAZING!11! The whistles on that song are absolutely sick.
"The Roof" at 64? Wow. This is sadenning. Heartbreaking even.
"One And Only" is another hot track that I enjoy listening to. It's really cool, and Twista adds to it, unlike some other collaborations where the rent-a-rapper was just there.
"My Saving Grace" is a cute song. But it's not all that and a bag of chips like some people make it out to be. And it's far from the best song on Charmbracelet.
"I Wish You Knew" is a phenomenal track. The live feel to it is funny...because Mariah doesn't have too many of those moments, nowadays, but whateverz. Mariah's lipped performances > Your faves "x, y and z has really gotten better vocally" performance.
"I'll Be Lovin' You Long Time" is the perfect summer song. So sad that it flopped. The T.I. remix is shite.
"Don't Forget About Us" or as the lambs refer to it, Numbah Seventeen! I love it. The bridge thing is phenomenal...especially with that whistle note. Impressive.
"Your Girl" is a top-track! It's one of my favorites on Emancipation of Mimi. I love everything about it.
"Side Effects" is a top-track, too! It's saddening to see absolutely undeniable hit potential wasted for absolutely awful tracks like "Bye Bye" and "I Stay In Love". I mean, WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?!?
In-Betweens
"Bringin' On The Heartbreak" is a cute track. But it doesn't even feel like a rock song. It's just whistling. This is one of those songs that had SOOOO potential if she would've roared her way through it. Instead, she whistles. It's still vocally impressive, but it just feeds into the "Ooh, Mariah Carey? All she does is the dog whistles. I can do it too if I suck some helium!!!" argument.
"H.A.T.E.U." is a track that could've been absolutely amazing, but the whispery vocals take from it. They don't add.
Duds"
I never got into "There's Got To Be A Way". The opening line about some homeless man puts me off. It's too...yuck.
"Thanxs 4 Nothin'"...WTF is this mess?
"O.O.C." has an amazing intro. And then, the first verse begins and I'm like "hahaha...skip!!"
Next post comin' up!
OMG! Thanks so much for the in-depth review!
As I expected, you're not too pleased with my ranking for "Fantasy" and "The Roof (Back In Time)".
And, oh my goodness gracious! I agree
completely with your sentiments on "Bringin' On The Heartbreak". It has this epic feel to it and as the verses go on, you can literally
sense that something epic is going to come, that Mariah's gonna just go full-out belting...but nothing comes.
ANH wrote:"Alone in Love" is a chilling track. I love it.
"Shake It Off" is another cute track from
Emancipation of Mimi. I loved it at first, then, I hated it. And now I love it again!
"Migrate" is the hit that never happened. I wonder if Mariah feels the same way about it as we do. I know she said that she wanted it to be a single, but I don't think she's ever publicly complained.
I absolutely love "Circles". It's a top-track. The lyrics are on point, and the voice is just slapping you around for three minutes! Amazing.
"It's Like That" is fierce. Some of the lines are so hawt ("
You like this, and you know it!").
I just got into "Can't Take That Away (Mariah's Theme)" and there are some superb moments in that song.
"Standing O"...I liked at the beginning. I really did. And now, I can't hear it anymore. I can almost tell that it was a song that The-Dream wrote for Beyonce, but she rejected, and ended up in Mariah's album. I normally don't use these, but...
"Can't Let Go" is an amazing track. I love it so much. Top 10 material!
I love "I've Been Thinking About You". Sure, it may not fit in with the rest of
Music Box, but it's still very groovy.
"Make It Happen" is Mariah at her best. She's just roaring throughout the song, specifically designed to mark her territory on the charts.
"You Need Me" is another amazing track! Her debut is literally amazing.
"Touch My Body" is the song that made me a fan. I will always be grateful to
Mr. Brett Ratner"Stay The Night" is my favorite track on Emancipation of Mimi. Looking at some of my other favorites, I should be extremely happy it got to...number thirty three. *facepalm*"Mine Again" is another excellent track from that very excellent album. Should've been called "
Excellence by Mimi" if you ask me.
"Crybaby" is an amazing song. So jazzy. And I love singing it.
In-Betweens"Cruise Control" is a cute track. But it didn't deserve to be on the follow-up to her comeback, multi-platinum album..at all. Seriously, why? There's tracks like "When I Feel It" (and more that I'm sure we'll never hear about) that should've taken this crappy song's place.
DudsI get that the end of "Through The Rain[/i] is impressive. But it's not that impressive to make me sit through all of it.
"Last Kiss" is a wack song. It's like an inbred child to "I Stay In Love" and "We Belong Together", where the latter are cousins!!"Bye Bye" didn't feel heartfelt. And neither did the video.
WTF is "X-Girlfriend" here? "Securrity, this song needs to go!"
Yay! A second in-depth review! Your write-ups are
much appreciated!
As for "Make It Happen", I used to
love it about a year ago but it's definitely grown off of me a bit.
Sorry about ranking your faves so low, by the way. I guess they'll have to just grow on me as the years go by.
*Dead* at your "Last Kiss" write-up!
As for your "X-Girlfriend" shade, security needs to come for you.
Kidding, of course!
