The United Kingdom entry for Eurovision 2012, “Love will set you free” by Engelbert Humperdinck, will be available to buy and and download on 6 May 2012, according to BBC. This is for the first time in recent years when a British entry goes on sale before the Eurovision Song Contest takes part. In other news, BBC reported that Engelbert’s entry will be BBC Radio 2?s “Record of the Week”, for the week that will start on 9 April

I think we could do really well this year. The song is a throwback, nostalgic song which I think will resonate well with the continent :D
If you're going to Stan over someone, it might as well be the best: MADONNA - giving you hit after hit for 30 years, so that no one else has to.

Now I can't work out if its being lipped to the studio track, or to a pre-recorded live track but either way - the man is 76 FFS!

There are men in their mid 20's/early 30's that couldn't sing half the notes that he can still sing - he's does amazingly well at hitting the high notes.

I have a good feeling about this year. We'll never win again, but a top 5 entry would be sufficient. :D

He performed this on The Late Late Show here in Ireland on Friday night too and he was definitely live!

It's a lovely song and his voice is in great shape! I hope it does well!

He was singing slightly ahead of the backing at times but a great performance, if he performs like that or better on the night we should do pretty well!

Would like this to make the top 40 eventually at least.

HMV are really pushing the single. Pity they don't do that with The Sats, Marina etc.
You have to hunt them down via mail order.

The big compilation album this week is called Release Me. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Release-Me-Best ... 767&sr=1-1

That's the one stores are going with.

Turns out 40% of its sales were on CD last week. His audience wouldn't know what a download is!

That is impressive regarding physical sales. This won't peak until the competition... the masses probably haven't even heard it yet.

He will need a lot of luck tonight, as he didn't impress in the second dress rehearsal where juries watched the show and voted. :-?

this is exactly how he will perform in tonight's final:

Comments on Engelbert's final rehearsal:

ESTIMATION: 20-26

Bad opening, boring song and outdated song with nothing impressive and a dance presentation of ballet which makes no sense.
escxtra wrote:01. United Kingdom

The background is completely black, with a spotlight on Engelbert who is wearing a black suit. A guitarist is also “shown” at the start of the chorus. After the first chorus, the backdrop is shown, and a guy and a girl waltzing. The staging of the song is very simple. At the final chorus, there are pyrotechnics similar to what Azerbaijan had last year when they won, and pyrotechnics like Sofi Marinova had in the semi, at the end of the song. Engelbert’s vocals are good, but he is off-key a couple of times.

And a 76 year old man has just delivered a vocal you'd expect from a man 20-30 years his junior. I'm not excusing anything.

And the very reasons he is being cursed in the reviews you posted are typical of the entire contest.

The contest is a pile of outdated, narcissistic BS.

Personally, i was disappointed because i've heard him singing the particular song live and it was amazing. If he doesn't manage to hit the notes tonight, i'm afraid he will not score enough points.

What a shame, the song is really nice and I think if it'd been later on in the show he'd have done better. It was probably too understated and old-fashioned to go first. I thought the sparks at the end were really effective and brought it to life, he sang really well IMO and did that last note proud.

He sang incredibly well. That last note was sensational.

And yes, a lovely song. Such a sad thing that he finished second from last.
