Adele :: The "21" Era

I think 21 is closer to Fleetwood Mac's Rumors than MJ's Thriller .
Adele's 21 and Rumours were recorded during or after personal break up's .
Thriller on the whole is a fun pop album , although it does touch on some adult themes , 21 certainly is not fun it charts a sad chapter in Adele's life .
Rumours era saw the two couples in that band going their sheprate ways "Go Your Own Way" is a 70's "Rolling In The Deep" .
So if your looking for a comparison the Fleetwood Mac album is much closer to 21 than Thriller .
The later Beatles and ABBA albums are also closer in they deal with elements of break up within their songs .
Thriller and 21 are very successful albums thats all they have in common , but artistically they are polls apart in my opinion :)

XL/Columbia’s Grammy-winning phenom Adele is #1 for the 22nd time in a little more than a year since the album’s release, chalking up another 292k to bring her remarkable total over 7.6 million, 1.8 million of them since Jan. 1. Our crack retail staff predicts the album will go over the 3 million mark for the year by Memorial Day. Her debut album, 19, is now at #7.

Memorial Day in the US May 28
That means another 1.2 million = 8.8 million in total in May! :o Considering she always exceeds predictions, 9 million is reasonable.
So it's not a question of if, it's a question of when it hits diamond this year. Someone said by August. After the Olympics (if she performs) this will be about right! I was hoping by 12.31.12 but she's going to get there much sooner.
Yep, here's a few quotes ^^^^^^^ from when that prediction was made by HDD (29 Feb). I'd say a lot more than 3.2 million by memorial day, with Mother's day and Billboard awards. Also, Diamond potential by end of July.

Which UK female solo artist has most combined album sales ever? Sade? Adele? Who am I missing? I'm sure I'm missing a few. Solo only. Thanks guys.

Adele was named one of the top most beautiful people in the world and is on cover of People Mag. Beyonce won most beautiful, btw.

Adele's 21, which dips from #2 to #3, becomes the first album to log 61 weeks in the top 10 since Celine Dion's Falling Into You, which spent 61 weeks in the top 10 from March 1996 to June 1997. If 21 logs spends just one more week in the top 10 (I think it has a pretty good chance, don't you?), it will be the longest-running top 10 album since Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill, which spent 72 weeks in the top 10 from August 1995 to January 1997. All three albums won Grammys as Album of the Year.

21 this week becomes the first album to sell 3 million copies in 2012. This is the earliest in the year that an album has sold 3 million copies since 2005, when 50 Cent's The Massacre cleared the 3 million mark in the week ending April 17.

21 logs its 23rd week at #1 in the U.K. this week, which equals the number of weeks it has spent at #1 in the U.S.

3. Adele, 21, 88,000. The former #1 album dips from #2 to #3. This is its 61st week in the top 10. Four songs from the album are listed on Hot Digital Songs, topped by "Rumour Has It," which moves up from #23 to #22.

Adele's Live At The Royal Albert Hall is #1 on Top Music Videos for the 21st straight week. It's just one week away from tying Whitney Houston's The #1 Video Hits from 1986 for the longest run at #1 by a female artist in the chart's 27-year history. Adele's DVD sold 11K copies this week, bringing its total to 816K.

For next week, I think Whitney Houston's Whitney: The Greatest Hits will return to #1 on Catalog Albums, following Glee's tribute to the singer last night.

Arab - Adele could end up at #2 in the UK charts come Sunday.

From Music Week

The XL album was outselling its nearest competitor, fellow new release Out Of The Games by Polydor’s Rufus Wainwright, by around 13,500 copies up to the end of business on Tuesday with another XL offering – Adele’s 21 – in third place.

White previously topped the artist albums chart as half of the White Stripes with Elephant in 2003 and then with Icky Thump in 2007.

Wainwright’s current midweek position of two equals his present highest chart placing in the UK achieved by Release The Stars in 2007 and is a significant improvement on his last album All Days Are Nights: Songs For Lulu, which debuted and peaked at 21 in 2010. However, the Adele album, which returned to number one for a 23rd week last Sunday, is only a few hundred sales behind and has every chance of overtaking Wainwright’s release.
