Arab - Adele could end up at #2 in the UK charts come Sunday.

From Music Week

The XL album was outselling its nearest competitor, fellow new release Out Of The Games by Polydor’s Rufus Wainwright, by around 13,500 copies up to the end of business on Tuesday with another XL offering – Adele’s 21 – in third place.

White previously topped the artist albums chart as half of the White Stripes with Elephant in 2003 and then with Icky Thump in 2007.

Wainwright’s current midweek position of two equals his present highest chart placing in the UK achieved by Release The Stars in 2007 and is a significant improvement on his last album All Days Are Nights: Songs For Lulu, which debuted and peaked at 21 in 2010. However, the Adele album, which returned to number one for a 23rd week last Sunday, is only a few hundred sales behind and has every chance of overtaking Wainwright’s release.

Maybe because he's from Detroit and he was the leader of the best rock/garage band of this century ...

I think it's because Adele covered Steady As She Goes and Many Shades of Black. Everythng she touches turns to gold. Lol.
I'm so just kidding!! I Love Jack White!

Foos might take exception for that best garage rock band.

I wonder what new peak "Rumour Has It" will reach this week, you know with the huge airplay its gaining and that its #22 on the digital songs. I'm hoping 15 or 14!

Christine McVie (Fleetwood Mac )
She had four UK # 1 albums with the group Rumours and Tango In The Night been massive selling albums.
She was a member of Fleetwood Mac from 1970 to 1998 , she's spent over 930 weeks on the UK album charts .
Annie Lennox as to be in the running too .
These two women are maybe Adele's closest contenders , and you should'nt rule out Dame Shirley Bassey either  :)

Christin McVie as 29 UK platinum certifications to Adele's 19 UK platinum certifications .
In America Christine as 46 platinum certifications to Adele's 11 platinum certifications .
Although Christin McVie was part of a group (Fleetwood Mac ) she appears to be the most successful UK female recording artist ever and like Adele is a great singer songwriter :)

Solo UK Female artists

Adele 19x platinium
Dido 16x platinum
Amy Winhouse 13x platinum
Kate Bush 11x platinum
Susan Boyle 7x platinum
Annie Lennox 6x platinum

Sade is a group so i've not included them .
So i would say Adele is the most successful UK solo female artist :)

Lily Allen is also 6x platinum .
Shirley Bassey as 36 charted albums between 1959 and 2009 , but her certification only includes 1 platinum album and 7 Gold records .
She's clearly under certified , so it's anybodies guess how many albums she's sold in the past 50 years , my guess is she's maybe somewhere inbetween Kate bush and Amy Winehouse .
Adele looks to be way ahead of this field :)
