Thanks a lot! :D

First of all, I must say this was the hardest ranking I ever made. So, I'll probably regret of several choices in the future, but that's how I rank MJ songs by now.

It's time to start...
.
.
.
.
.
50. Happy (1973)
Image
*1983 re-release cover*
US: -- / UK: #52

AUDIO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tqt_3JYar4Y

First song of the ranking, first doubts: I was between Happy, We're Almost There and Got To Be There. I love all of them, but just one could make the Top 50, so I've chosen Happy.

It's an interesting ballad about a girl called 'Happy' and that he fell in love with. Before her, there was only sadness, so she changed his world and turned him happy as well. What a cute thing!

Just a curious note: it's credited as the 'love theme' of "Lady Sings the Blues", but it's not featured in the film or the soundtrack!

P.S.: I particularly rather the B-Side song ("In Our Small Way", first release) over this.
49. The Way You Make Me Feel (1987)
Image
US: #1 / UK: #3

SHORT-FILM: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzZ_urpj4As

Third single off Bad and one of his most iconic performances. I just LOVE his vocals on this song: so fresh and intense!

Moreover, its short-film (as he calls his music videos) is one of my favourites - the choreography plus the 'Ey!" (00min18s) and the a cappella part (01min03s), well, incomparable!

I'm glad 'The Way You Make Me Feel' is gone already. I've always found it to be quite annoying.

Wow, I'm gonna watch all the videos.
Yes, The Way You Make Me Feel would be higher in my ranking. It's a great tune.

DIDN'T MAKE THE TOP 50:
THE MAN (1983)
Image
Michael Jackson & Paul McCartney
*PROMO SINGLE*

AUDIO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXgim4YXLXk

Written by Michael Jackson & Paul McCartney for Paul's "Pipes Of Peace" (1983). Only released as a promo single in selected countries, e.g. Peru.

It's a JAM! I really believe it could have charted high worldwide, if commercially released.

The Way You Make Me Feel is so low, I thought that was when the Bad album/era really kicked in as I like it better than Bad and I Just Can't Stop Loving You.

The Man is okay but MJ and Paul's other collabs were better

Amazing choice for a countdown, Kevin.

It's a shame The Man missed the list and The Way You Make Me Feel appeared so low (I didn't know it had this lovely single cover!).

Great presentation, by the way. 8-)

Why is The Way You Make Me Feel so low?

I'm sorry but this is outrageous...

Sorry, guys. "The Way You Make Me Feel" used to be one of my faves, but it's not anymore (for now, at least). That's why it's only #49.

Otherwise, I'd rank TWYMMF video in my Top 10, and I think the 'video version' is way better than the album/single version.

48. We Are The World (1985)
Image
USA for Africa
US: #1 / UK: #1

SHORT-FILM: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2H6mpUnsLI

One of the best-selling singles of all time (+11 million units worlwide), and one of the most successful humanitarian aid projects for Africa (raised +$63 million).

Furthermore, what amazing list of musicians: Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Kenny Rogers, James Ingram, Tina Turner, Billy Joel, Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick, Willie Nelson, Al Jarreau, Bruce Springsteen, Kenny Loggins, Steve Perry, Daryl Hall, Huey Lewis, Cyndi Lauper, Kim Carnes, Bob Dylan, Ray Charles, Smokey Robinson, Bette Midler, etc.

WELL... I love Lionel Richie (they used to be very close, and MJ is the godfather of Nicole Richie - Lionel's daughter), but there's a thing that ANNOYS me a lot about this song: how is possible Lionel be credited as co-writer if he actually did almost nothing?! Here's the DEMO VERSION, written and composed by MJ himself.
47. What More Can I Give / Todo Para Ti (2001)
Image
* PROMO SINGLE *
Michael Jackson & Friends
US: -- / UK: --

MUSIC VIDEO (What More Can I Give): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7baeBy7E-w
AUDIO (Todo Para Ti): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aF4JN9ezrJ0
LIVE PERFORMANCE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2Jy1J8nvTw

Another great charity single! But, unfortunately, Sony ruined its release - the same way they did to Invincible.

Just like WTW, Michael reunited a big group of artists to record a humanitarian song, this time in two idioms (English and Spanish) and destinated to September 11 attacks victims (it was initially related to Kozovo war).

List of artists: Michael Jackson, Beyoncé, Mariah Carey, Céline Dion, Shakira, Anastacia, 3LW, Aaron Carter, Alejandro Sanz, Billy Gilman, Brian McKnight, James Bryton, Santana, Cristian Castro, Gloria Estefan, Hanson, Jon Secada, Joy Enriquez, Juan Gabriel, Julio Iglesias, Justin Timberlake, Laura Pausini, Luis Miguel, Luther Vandross, Michael McCary, Mya, *NSYNC, Nick Carter, Olga Tañon, Reba McEntire, Ricky Martin, Rubén Blades, Shawn Stockman, Thalía, Tom Petty, Arrumador and Ziggy Marley.

I love this song (both versions) and his vocals... WOW!

P.S.: 'What More Can I Give' cover was designed and hand painted by the Brazilian artist Romero Britto.

"Happy" is nice enough, but far from being MJ's best.

"The Way You Make Me Feel" is fantastic. That being said, it's not one of my all-time fave MJ singles so I'm not overly fussed with your ranking of it.

"I Wanna Be Where You Are" is cute but again not one of MJ's best.

"We Are The World" is legendary and definitely one of the definitive songs of the 80's. I remember hearing it all the time growing up. It brings back so many memories.

J. Lo heavily sampled I Wanna Be Where You Are on one track off the Brave album, I forgot the track title at the moment though. I prefer "grown up" MJ but its a nice song still.

We Are The World is criticized for being heavily saccharine and preachy, but it worked for its day. You had nearly every major US-born star of that moment barring two (much like Band Aid's Do They Know It's Christmas had nearly every major UK star at that time) and it was at a time when charity superstar singles were still a fresh concept. And I love Cyndi Lauper's little cameo in the song, that is the moment that is either loved or hated depending on ones feelings towards her music LOL.
