This best of list for debut albums gets its sales info from the RIAA. Soundscan only tracks 95% of what is sold at retail through stores and online, and you'll find plenty of other albums that are at this point or that point in terms of soundscan or claims about a certain album being undercertified. This is just a snapshot in time of how things currently look for the biggest debut albums at RIAA.Willypedia wrote:Get Rich Or Die Tryin sold 8.1 millions as of last week.
Snoop Dogg's Doggystyle sold more than 6 millions even though it's undercertified by the RIAA.
Also Eminem's debut album, The Slim Shady LP sold 5.3 millions.
Well, it means is not accurate then...Mulvanaghty wrote:This best of list for debut albums gets its sales info from the RIAA. What do you mean its not accurate? The source is the RIAA. Albums are not certified for 8.1 million sales or 7.3 million sales. Do you know of a more accurate list for the top selling debut albums in the United States?Willypedia wrote:Well, it means is not accurate then...Mulvanaghty wrote:This best of list for debut albums gets its sales info from the RIAA. 7.6 million in soundscan does not necessarily mean 8 million plus in shipments. The list is based on what is factually known to be true, not what might be true.marcsgirl85 wrote:for some of the albums it's not because they are actually undercertified
Evanesence fallen & Carrie Underwood Some Hearts for example should both be 8x platinum Fallen has sold 7.6 million copies while Some Hearts might still be a bit off as it's only sold 7.2 million rounded
But Tapestry is NOT a debut album. This a list of top selling debut albums. "Writer" was Carole King's Debut album and was released in May 1970 and peaked at #84 on the Billboard 200.herb wrote:How about Carole King's "Tapestry" album? It was certified diamond by the RIAA.
Lady Gaga's The Fame could make it in a few years... Even faster if her next album is turning into a hit!Mulvanaghty wrote:Its interesting that only 11 debut albums released after January 2000 made the list and no debut albums have made the list since Taylor Swifts debut album was released in 2006!
A more accurate list comes from the real sale figures that Nielsen Soundscan provides us since 1991. Snoop Dogg and Eminem should be on that list because they sold more than 5 million copies with their debut albums, and 50 Cent's GRODT sold 6 millions in 2003 alone but now its sales stand at 8.1 millions, and that's an update from last week.Mulvanaghty wrote:What do you mean its not accurate? 1. Soundscan does have any sales before 1991 which would make any such list totally inaccurate. Boston has sold 17 million copies, but Soundscan did not exist to record most of those sales.Willypedia wrote:A more accurate list comes from the real sale figures that Nielsen Soundscan provides us since 1991. The album was never released in the States... so literally, her debut album in the USA is "Jagged"...exhale wrote:I love alanis Morisette but it's not the debut of her.
