8. Like a Prayer
This is probably Madonna's signature song in the UK. It is definitely seen as her greatest work and receives endless praise from critics and the public. What's amazing about it is, people who like anything but pop (rock fans, rap fans, jazz fans...), even they recognise this as one of the best of all time.
For me, this has always been one of those songs I've known forever. It was released not long after I was born, so I don't
remember it being released at all, but I'd say I can remember it being on TV or being played by my mom since I was about 3 years old. And even when I was a kid, I knew this video was something special. I obviously didn't understand all the controversy around it, but it's a captivating video which you can't help but watch. It's one of my favourite videos of all time. Genius!
As for the song, I like the first half - it's pleasant. But when the guitar riff kicks in, I get chills! And even now, the second half of the song gives me goosebumps. It's really is chilling (can't think of another word) and paired with the video (Madonna and the burning crosses in the background) - it just makes for one of the most epic moments in entertainment history in my opinion.
