Both of these are AMAZING songs.
Just..no. They're the weakest songs on their respective albums, IMO.

These songs explicitly show Butterfly's superiority. When I Saw You is sooooo superficial and she sounds bored. WYC is really emotional.

What songs on Butterfly do you consider as duds?

I love "Whenever You Call"! It is such a warm song and the lyrics are beautiful! It has a great vocal too.

I think it underrated amongst the fans!

"Love wandered inside, stronger than you, stronger than I" >>>>>>>>>>>>> "When I saw You"

I do like "When I saw You" but I just think it pales in comparison to the rest of "Daydream"! It would probably be a standout on "Music Box"

But on a serious note I hope you enjoy Mariah's collection

Recommended album: Daydream, its a 90's classic but still sounds fresh today.

Mariah's voice on her debut and on Emotions shits on Daydream + Butterfly.

The latter albums have a less dated production though and more interesting songs.

I guess it depends on what you like! I personally prefer how her tone had matured on the later albums than on her first two!

Close My Eyes is easily one of the best lyrical moments of her career

My All is one of the top 10 Mariah Carey songs and one of the best songs of the 90's

And girl you will just not come for The Roof

Yes. Those tracks are, IMO, some of her best work. Along with "Can't Let Go", "Fly Like A Bird" and "Stay The Night", they would all be in my top five Carey tracks!

Mariah (her team) has been promoting "The Essential" release on her facebook page. Here's what she had to say about:

"Vision of Love" - "This song will always be one of my favorites, not only because it was my first single and first #1 song but because it really does have a special meaning to me about realizing my dreams"

"Vanishing" - "I'm very proud of this song because I was so young when I wrote it and yet so many people tell me it's helped to change their lives."

"Emotions (C&C Club Mix)" - "This is one of those songs that I almost forgot about until a fan brought it to my attention via Twitter. I'm proud of it because I feel like I just let go and sang from my heart and David Cole, may he rest in peace, helped me get to a place vocally that I couldn't have done without him."

When I first started getting stuck into MC's discography I always thought this remix of Emotions was her debut single haha. I just remember being stunned that anyone could sound so orgasmically good. I always used to find it bizarre how she could have such a low talking voice and then sing so high and sweet.

There's nothing quite like the FIRST time you hear Mariah really Sannging. Of course she still sounds brilliant, I'm just used to her amazingness at this point. But that very first moment your ears and her voice collide, it's like wooaaaah. I wish I could have that moment back lol, butterflies in my stomach.

...I really bum Mariah Carey sometimes

Although Mariah Carey is one of the best debut albums I have ever heard, Emotions is much better.

I hope they re-release the debut album for Mariah's 25th Anniversary. And include rare demos e.g. the original vision of love from the demo-tape.

it will never happen  but one can wish...

^ Think positive thoughts.

Sent Up From Above and Vanishing are my favorites from Mariah's debut...

You Need Me also knocks. Wish I had another taste of Mariah doing rock music...
