Doesn't every little thing that's even indirectly related to Adele already lead into a sales increase for 21?
If she did far more, then she'd propably suffer from overexposure and that will have a contrary effect...

Anyway, we shouldn't forget: There are still 22 mio. people without a copy of 21 :o  ...

A tour or a performance on X Factor last year (not her fault with all her voice problems) wouldn't have been overexposure at all. It would have been the normal process of promoting an album. This is what a lot of acts do.

But you usually don't hear the songs of "lots of acts" on every single corner, everyday and everywhere...
And least that's how it's been in America and Europe and I doubt that it's different in Australia 8-) .

In France I do (hello Gotye, Coldplay, Lykke Li, Ed Sheeran). I still think that a single performance wouldn't have been overexposure, same for the tour. I mean, the first five singles from P!nk's Funhouse hit #1 on the airplay chart in Australia, yet the massive tour in 2009 didn't kill her popularity. The album kept charting well once she left the country.

At which position is Funhouse on the all-time-best-selling-DVD-list?

LOL They make platinum out to be such a big achievement. It doesn't mean the same as it used too.

It is an achievement. 70,000 sold is still 70,000 sold no matter which year we're in.

Yes, any song below 2x Platinum isn't doing well as long as it's not by an extreme indie/scene act...
It's ridiculous how songs go Gold/Platinum and they are not even successful looking at their chart performance... Just look at Havana Brown's We Run The Night. Thinking that it reached 3x Platinum, you might think that it's a huge hit but looking at its chart run:
7 / 10 / 11 / 7 / 5 / 7 / 7 / 8 / 8 / 9 / 13 / 20 / 25 / 24 / 33 / 37 / 39 / 50

shows that it didn't do bad, but wasn't more than a decent hit, which shouldn't reach more than Gold if certifications were proportionate to the market's situation. I mean the single only was No. 40 on the YEC and it's not like it ewas a monster catalog hit.
And this is just an example for a lot of other songs.

Sick Puppies' Maybe reached Gold with a peak of No. 89... Seriously what means reaching Gold when 200 songs do it each year?
It's not an achievement when songs barely chart and still get Gold or songs with a moderately successful chart run get Multi-Platinum which should just go the top sellers of the year.

ARIA really has to do something!

Don't think anyone was expecting to see Mariah's GH being certified 2x Platinum, that album peaked at #47  I love how Sony Australia seems to be the only label in the world that it's still re-certifing her catalog.

Timmy94, is it really necessary to visit this thread almost every week and complain about Australia's certification levels? We know how you feel - you don't need to keep reminding us :o

Sales went through the roof in Australia several years ago. Music is being purchased (and enjoyed LEGALLY) by more people than EVER before. ARIA, quite rightly, is choosing to celebrate artists' massive sales with accreditations. I really don't think they're going to worry that some music fans in Europe think that the certification levels are too low....
