^ It isn't always like that. I remember some artists that have success in the UK and fail to make any sucess in Ireland. Rachel Stevens albums never charted in Ireland, but they were (kinda) hits in the UK.
Girls Aloud never scored a number one album in Ireland, but they're albums all made the Top 10 (except for Chemistry which was #11) in the UK. Even they're Tangled Up album only made #24 in Ireland.
Madonna scored many number one singles in the UK since Like a Prayer, but 4 Minutes was Madonna's first number one in Ireland since Like a Prayer. Even "Music" that was a world hit was only #7 in Ireland.
But now back to Marina... do we know if Marina is #1 yet?

So happy for Marina! A great start for a new era, but just like Blondini says - it will drop some spots for next week. She needs more exposure now and a great follow up single to Primadonna (which isn't Power & Control unfortunatelty).
Isn't there any VMA or something lined up, she must get some big promotion spot like that!

I bought the album and find it a bit inconsistent I have to say - but maybe it will be a grower...

ALBUMS: Marina & The Diamonds' second album Electra Hearts beats faster than its rivals to debut atop the album chart on sales of 21,358 copies. Undoubtedly helped by the success of second single, Primadonna, which bounces 13-11 this week (29,896 sales), the album eclipses the top position of Marina's first album, The Family Jewels, which debuted and peaked at number five although it fails to equal its first week sales of 27,618 copies.
The Family Jewels fell out of the Top 10 after just one week, never to return, and has thus far sold 177,268 copies. Electra Heart's chart-topping debut comes just days after Marina had to postpone her UK tour due to throat problems, and has been given overwhelmingly favourable reviews.

OK, now I get why many people expect it to fall steep next week... With such low sales at No. 1, it's likely to fall deep in the second week.
Although I hoped for a number around 30-40k tbh...
So Electra Heart debuted with less then Family Jewels (most artists sell more in the first week than the debut album did) although The Family Jewels had a nice total of 177k (if an album has a nice total, it's usually having great first-week-sales for the follow-up as result) and Primadonna being a current top20-single.
But of course No. 1 still means the best-selling album of the week and therefore it's great.
@NoAngel: Just because it's not unusual doesn't mean it's a good number though and as you know, many people see Bionic as the perfect example of a flop, so once an album at No. 1 sells less, it stands out.
Though it's just a bit of bsd luck that Electra Heart reaches No. 1 with such a number: In other weeks, it would've "just" reached a decent top-5-position with 21k sold. But even if it should turn out to perform similiar to Bionic (which I doubt), it won't be called a flop because Bionic was a follow-up to an album double the total of The Family Jewels and therefore the expectations were higher...

Not very important charts but it's also at:
THE BIG TOP 40 (commercial radio airplay + iTunes sales combined)
Run: 23-27-23
Which means basically all of it's chart run is iTunes sales.
THE REAL CHART (Graham76man's "alternative" chart)
Run: 7-15-12
Dropped off Airplay Chart from 46 (the one Haven posts). Presumably it dropped off the other one from 49, too. EDIT: it dropped to 93!

That's nice!
21.000 sold copies in the first week isn't so bad. The Family Jewels kept on selling thanks to her hard work and the release of many singles/videos.
I'm a bit worried about the next single though. Power & Control doesn't sound like a song that can sell albums.
