Get Rich Or Die Tryin sold 8.1 millions as of last week.

Snoop Dogg's Doggystyle sold more than 6 millions even though it's undercertified by the RIAA.

Also Eminem's debut album, The Slim Shady LP stands at 5.3 millions as of Jan 2012

This best of list for debut albums gets its sales info from the RIAA. Soundscan only tracks 95% of what is sold at retail through stores and online, and you'll find plenty of other albums that are at this point or that point in terms of soundscan or claims about a certain album being undercertified. This is just a snapshot in time of how things currently look for the biggest debut albums at RIAA.

for some of the albums it's not because they are actually undercertified

Evanesence fallen & Carrie Underwood Some Hearts for example should both be 8x platinum Fallen has sold 7.6 million copies while Some Hearts might still be a bit off as it's only sold 7.2 million rounded

What do you mean its not accurate? The source is the RIAA. Albums are not certified for 8.1 million sales or 7.3 million sales. Do you know of a more accurate list for the top selling debut albums in the United States?

7.6 million in soundscan does not necessarily mean 8 million plus in shipments. The list is based on what is factually known to be true, not what might be true.

How about Carole King's "Tapestry" album? It was certified diamond by the RIAA.

But Tapestry is NOT a debut album. This a list of top selling debut albums. "Writer" was Carole King's Debut album and was released in May 1970 and peaked at #84 on the Billboard 200.

Its interesting that only 11 debut albums released after January 2000 made the list and no debut albums have made the list since Taylor Swifts debut album was released in 2006!

Lady Gaga's The Fame could make it in a few years... Even faster if her next album is turning into a hit!

Maroon 5 should also make the list soon...

A more accurate list comes from the real sale figures that Nielsen Soundscan provides us since 1991. Snoop Dogg and Eminem should be on that list because they sold more than 5 million copies with their debut albums, and 50 Cent's GRODT sold 6 millions in 2003 alone but now its sales stand at 8.1 millions, and that's an update from last week.

1. Soundscan does have any sales before 1991 which would make any such list totally inaccurate. Boston has sold 17 million copies, but Soundscan did not exist to record most of those sales.

2. The RIAA takes ALL sales into account. Soundscan does not. Just 90% to 95% of the sales from normal retail outlets. RIAA does an official audit which counts and certifies all sales even to your local library.

3. I asked if there was another list of the top debut albums, and you claimed there is, but you have neglected to link to one.

1991 - Alanis (uscito solo in Canada)
1992 - Now Is the Time (uscito solo in Canada)
True love is hard to find!!

The album was never released in the States... so literally, her debut album in the USA is "Jagged"...

In the other hand, Christina Aguilera's debut album has sold 9 million copies already ... not 8 million, that's how she is certified, not her actual sales

The title should be "highest certified debut album ever" instead of this one. Thanks anyway!

@JPGuy RCA Records is probably being slow to certify Christina Aguilera's debut 9x platinum like Columbia is to certify Ricky Martin's english debut 8x platinum or the same is true of wind up records and Evanesences debut album fallen which should also be 8x platinum but like mr Martin's is only 7x platinum
