What have they done that was legendary?
They started singing together at age 13 went through trials and tribulations just to get a record deal, got a record deal released their first single it went #1 and their first cd sold 3 million, rush released their second cd, the legendary The Writing's on the Wall cd spawned 3 #1's and sold 15 million world wide, 8 in the US alone. More trials and tribulations a couple replacements and lots of negative press, they release independent woman with new member Michelle Williams and it went to #1 for 11 weeks straight. Then released their next cd survivor and so on and so forth...

To break it down they have multiple #1's, multiple sickening album sales, critically they're considered thee girl group of the past 20 years, Grammys, world wide appeal and they definitely put their time in... What more do you want?

What do you consider legendary??
I'd say they were definitely successful, but not legends of music. 'The Writing's On The Wall' is a legendary R&B album, and that's about it IMO.

Nah, Bruno Mars won't be legendary.

Legendary is subjective. To me, an artist that has a substantial number of top 40 hits over 7 or more years could be thrown into this category. They don't have to smash the record books or anything ...

Like Usher was a god  ... Actually it was more about an image rather than his music which prevented him from becoming bigger and actually reach a certain status. His first few albums were OK-RNB-albums, Confessions was a moderate album with 4-5 mega hits on it. Then he kinda lost himself and when we wanted to return, he jumped on lame dance songs which still don't get people to buy his albums... So it's clear why he won't become a legend: He lacks a real masterpiece album and still hasn't found his identity... Plus, his credibility isn't always very clear!
Negative. Your opinion on his albums are what they are, just opinions. He never lost himself, just because he infused different genres into his music (which he has done for years) doesn't mean he lost his direction. For every dance song there's 5 more R&B songs. As for album sales? What other R&B/pop male sold 1.3 million albums in the U.S in 2010 and 2011? I'll wait. It's clear that he has a stable fanbase and he caters to them well.

^OK OK sorry. It's a no, for Bruno. Poor us Bruno stans (where are Wmosi & Leo btw?) :-?

Next stop, she's one of the biggest selling music artists in R&B, and she's been in the game since 1990s but for some reasons, she's never been as recognized as her peers such as Mariah Carey & Whitney Houston.

Do you think Toni Braxton will be a legend?

I love her to death, but I'd say no. I would've said yes if this question had been asked back in 2001/02 or something, but things changed. Anyway, I'm thinking of doing Linkin' Park & Kylie Minogue next (if people haven't considered her as one already) and probably Adele later).

She will be an R&B legend, like Anita Baker.

I'll say no. She definitely was a big star in her day, but I doubt that her body of work was impressive enough to be considered legendary, as good as some of her songs have been.

I think Toni's main downfall is that she has always lived in the shadow of bigger stars with bigger voices (Whitney, Mariah, Céline). She's got a pretty strong discography, but I would have to say no, she will not be a legend. Icon, maybe, legend, no.

Unfortunately, no.

She had some pretty big hits in the 90's, not to mention one of the biggest hits of all time 'Unbreak My Heart'. But I think the song may be more famous than she is.

She was selling equal/more albums than the other big divas in the 90's (particularly in the US) yet she was never put into the same league as them. I think that might be because she didn't have a big personality like the other big divas, and so she wasn't as popular and accessible thus preventing her from becoming a big star. Still, she'll be remembered for being one of the biggest successes of the 90's, along with having a memorable voice (her voice is probably more legendary than she is).

And by 2000, she lost her way. She's been flopping for 12 years now which means she only ever really had 2 successful albums. That isn't enough to be considered a legend in my eyes. If she retired in 2000, then she would have left behind a flawless legacy, but her success has been greatly tarnished by her last few albums so I don't see how she can be a legend when her flops outweigh her hits.

I think she'll be remembered as a successful 90's R&B star with an incredible voice.

Big star, but not a legend.

Not even of R&B. Fantastic vocalist though.

I love her unique voice, but i think her career was not enough to be legendary.. maybe with a couple of more amazing eras, she could reach that status.. but for now i'll say no.

her impact isn't big enough and she couldn't really redeem herself after several commercial failures. her voice is outstanding though.

+1

She had the chance if she kept her popularity and influence of the mid-90s going on, but other R'N'B-artists like Whitney Houston or Mary J Blige, maybe even Aaliyah took over her...
