We want to know which era you preferred, where 2 artists came out with albums within 6 months of each other. We will then see, at around the same time, which album was preferred!

Example: Mariah and Madonna came out with albums in April 2008!
Which era/material did you prefer, considering that they came out around the same time?[/b]

My choice is obvious. 10 weeks at #1 on my personal chart leaves no open questions.

E=MC² features some of Mariah's best songs like Migrate, For the Record and I wish you well. The album was her most current-sounding and most commercial one which spawned two top 20 (one #1 single) singles. Other tracks such as Side Effects, Love Story, OOC and Thanx for Nothin are amazing as well.

Hard Candy also has some great songs and it doesn't deserve the backlash it received (by mostly her own fans). But E=MC² was an overall amazing album that was destroyed by Mariah's indifference and the label's singles choices.

For me, E=MC² is Mariah's best album as it's probably her most consistent record to date. The single choices after "Touch My Body" weren't the wisest but overall, I still enjoyed that era more than Madge's Hard Candy era.

E=MC².

Even though I don't like Madonna much, I feel that "Hard Candy" was pretty much a disaster.

E=MC² contains some of Mariah's best tracks to date ("I Stay In Love", "For The Record"). It is also Mariah's best 2000s album IMO (the most cohesive). Of course, it wasn't that huge a commercial success as "The Emancipation of Mimi", but it's still better than Hard Candy, to me.

Both releases were kind of destroyed by the wrong single choices, though.

Hard Candy 8-)

Madonna shows in her lyrics (once again) all the bad times she was going through : "Miles Away", "Devil Wouldn´t Recognise You" , "She´s Not Me". Not surprinsily her wedding officially ended 4 months after the release of the album.
In Hard Candy´s era she also delivered the great "Sticky & Sweet Tour" (one of her best ever) , filled basically with the album´s songs.
So Hard Candy and its era are better for me.
Denise , we ( Madonna Fans ) will miss you A LOT !

Hard Candy
If you asked me in 2008-2010, I'd surely say E=MC² but I choose Hard Candy after seeing the performances in the DVD of the Sticky and Sweet Tour. :D :D

E=MC2 is a great record, should've been bigger.

Hard Candy was a disappointment for me.

Well...

E=MC² is easily the better album. Easily. Not to mention that the marketing and the promotion of it during early 2008 was flawless.

But Hard Candy actually has a world tour to accompany it. Outside of the extremely undesirable name of the tour, it was an excellent tour. But it was barely promoted.

They both were commerical underperformances in terms of sales. But then again, it was the beginning of the end of an good music market...not to mention we had a disastrous, worldwide recession so no one could afford to buy their albums...

E=MC² had both a recordbreaking #1 single but then the era had petered out because poor single choices...but she still managed to get a Top 20 single that had pretty good airplay. Hard Candy had a huge Top 3 single and, like E=MC², it had horrible single choices. But instead of petering out, it kinda crashed and burned...

E=MC² should've been massive. So it's limited success was a disappointment. But Hard Candy didn't really deserve the success it recieved. Any rational Madonna fan will admit that...so it's bittersweet.

I got to go with E=MC².

Hard Candy has two killer tracks ("Beat Goes On, "Miles Away") and the rest are quite weak.

E=MC² has a few killer tracks ("I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time", "For The Record", "Migrate", "I'm That Chick") plus is fairly consistent overall.

So, E=MC².

^ We're supposed to be judging things by the entire era.

Not the album.

well, to understand the E=MC² era, people have to know the truth. Mariah Carey got pregnant in the 4th quarter of 2008 but lost the baby towards Christmas and had to endure surgerieS to recover.

Era? Hard Candy For sure...~

Music: None of those albums are their best...but Hard Candy is more what i listen.

Videos: can't believe i'm gonna say this...but Hard Candy wins here...FOR SURE!

Also, Hard Candy gave us one of the most successful tours ever...while E=MC2 didn't have one...so yeah

Hard Candy for sure!

Both eras were handled very bad IMO, especially 'cos both "divas" had opportunity to continue their success of previous eras.
Mariah looked great during this era, so that's a plus for her
Madonna went on a huge worldwide tour so that's a plus for her
That's all
Singles choices were weird (Touch My Body? Bye Bye? 4 Minutes?) and videos to promote it were pretty bland.
All in all, 2008 isn't the year I will remember Madonna nor Mariah for.

Stevvy, your sales for both E=MC² and Hard Candy are outdated.

Hard Candy did 3.8 million and E=MC² did 2.5 million.
