John Legend: "Britney & Demi can't sing."

“You know it’s interesting. It should be very interesting. I don’t have much to say,” Legend stated to E! “It’s interesting when people you know who are judging singing competitions when they aren’t really singers. It’s interesting.”

He just needs to shut up imo, X Factor is not only about singing ability, but also about performance and superstar charisma. And Simon Cowell is not even a singer.

LOL TBH these whole "TV Singing Competition Shows" are not about the contestants anymore... at least in the US the last truly succesful winner I think was Carrie Underwood back in 2004? :lol:

The winner from the 1st season of The Voice is nowhere to be seen ans so is going to be the winner of the 2nd season :lol:

Where are the winners of the last 3 seasons of American Idol?... I think they got back waiting tables at their local restaurant.

Where's the winner from 'The X Factor's' 1st season? :lol:

These shows are all about the judges... to revilitalize fading careers (Xtina, Jlo, Adam Levine) and yeah even Britney...sure she still can sell out stadiums and arenas all over the world but her image and spark are fading bit a bit and that was clearly shown on 'Femme Fatale' sales.. 1.6 million WW.. not a flop but clearly an underperformed album.

I don't think ALL of the judges should be able to sing. Like leoapp said, you gotta have charisma, too. Each of the judge should be judging on different criteria i think.

And Demi can sing..

Scotty McCreery's last album has done very well on the country charts, it's scanned over 1 million in the US, which is first Idol winner to do such since Carrie.

You might not follow country, but Scotty has definitely bucked the trend of flopping Idol winners because he is doing very well on the country chart.

Not everyone can sell records, and I think it does take a certain spark and not just a voice to be successful. All the successful Idol singers had that thing you could just feel.

Xfactor hasn't really pushed Melanie Amaro yet, but she could be big.

As for the Voice, they definitely need a new PR department. I didnt even know when the album was out and they need to stop picking these cookie cutter lame winners.

Dia should have won the first season and it was obvious Juliet Simms should have won the second season.

I love John Legend but he is so off-base.

Demi Lovato can sing her ass off.

We love everybody so we're not going to talk about Britney's "singing" abilities...

I can't blame him though. I didn't know that either: when I stole my sister's copy of Unbroken, I was floored by the power, the agility and the soul in her voice.

Granted that Britney isn't the best vocalist, she'll bring attention to the show (for people wanting to just see her every week, including me) and she has what you call the "X-factor".

He's just being a negative Nancy for no reason. But I guess that's his opinion.

Where are they now? David Cook is a flop nowadays... and Jordin I love her but her last album flopped and I think she's doing or did broadway because her music didn't trascend.

The question wasn't where are they now a days. And Jordin is recording her 3rd album and releasing a movie with Whitney Houston this summer as the main star 8-)

I wasn't questioning... The fact is that their latest music efforts were a complete flop soo as a result these tv shows couldn't care less about their contestants since they're no longer relevant... once the seasons end the contestants and winners are forgotten.. sure they do record an album but the album tanks because people simply don't care anymore.

Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood are the only ones who really made it and remain relevant.

I apologize for being wrong about Jordin and David, I wasn't sure if they reached 1 million.

I honestly wouldn't worry about Scotty McCreery's future though, unless you do a Dixie Chicks type of thing to piss that crowd off, the country market is very loyal, hence Carrie Underwood.

Its not only about singing ability but nobody on that damn show has singing ability, its not all about performance and superstar charisma (things Britney lost 8years ago) Demi is arguably a good singer but when are they ever gonna feature an actual vocalist on one of these shows?

He's dead on.

Though I think X Factor and Idol should both have a mixture of judges. Its The Voice that I think should have the superstar singers.
