Jennifer Lopez is Leaving 'American Idol'

Jennifer Lopez may have just been named by Forbes magazine today as the most powerful celebrity, but her reign at American Idol is coming to an end.

While J.Lo has publicly said she has yet to make a decision about her future on Idol, sources exclusively tell me that she she's planning on calling it quits.

She's just too busy," one source said.

That's so very true.

She's about to launch a mega concert tour with Enrique Iglesias that kicks off this summer in Latin America and the U.S. She plans to go worldwide in the fall.

I'm told Lopez will be on the road, at the very least, through the end of the year.

The next round of Idol auditions will begin while she's overseas.

Music casting shows are on the decline in general because there are just too many of them. At the beginning they were nice but everyone wanted to have his piece of the cake and so the more came, the less interesting they became because everyone was like "quantity over quality"...

That's why people are fed up with them!

What I don't get is why it took so long for all the imposter shows to happen. Idol premiered 10 years ago and yet it's only been the last year or two that all the "other" shows have come on the air

Yep, I think it's right time for her to leave it. It's enough. She should focus on her tour, new album and movies - not judging. Good decision even if she is not getting another 20M.

I mean i know show isn't at it's peak, but I'm fascinated that after so many years, buzz and ratings for this show is still huge I mean it's 11th season and concept didn't change way too much either...amazing run!!

Not a significant one though... her last album still flopped and I'm pretty sure the new one will as well.

She's a singles artist nowaways and not a big one.. sure 'On The Floor' was a huge hit but that's it... the other ones flopped hard.

I still don't get why she's such a powerful celebrity TBH.. her last succesful movie was 'Monster-in-Law' back in 2005, her last succesful album was 'This is Me... Then' back in 2002..

Why is Jennifer Lopez 2012's Forbes Most Powerful Celebrity??

Her movie/music career may have peaked during the "Bennifer" era, but her booty is still going. #Legend
Nicki & Kim K. are going to have to pay tribute one day. Their butts are gonna perform a medley of her greatest hits at the Billboard Music Awards otherwise, I swear, they will lose all their relevancy.

Sorry, but American Idol is UNWATCHABLE for me. I tried sitting through it and its terrible. Jen is great, and the talent is definitely there, but the whole way the show runs, the process is really boring and produced badly. I mean calling up contestants to hear critiques and then teasing results and then telling them go back and sit on the couch of a half hour? Its just stupid.

Surprised this is even ratings as high as it is. And with Jlo gone now and Britney on Xfactor and Xtina on The Voice, its gonna sink.

That's the best she can do, honestly. It will be a hopeful dream for her album to scan at least 500,000 copies in the US, especially with the current quality of her music where it's all dance music and not so hard-hitting urban tunes, and just a few months of promo, and some verses from Pitbull here and there.

That's publicity, she's going nowhere. She has to thank AI for giving her career back.

This season has been the best in years IMO so she would be leaving it on a high if she did go. I'd say the show has two seasons left in it maximum anyway. It's served its purpose of getting her back in the spotlight and giving her another worldwide hit.

But American Idol wasn't the reason why On The Floor turned into a worldwide hit...
It actually followed the current hit-formula, doing a dance/house-song with a Pitbull feature and some sing-a-long-lyrics which aren't deep but don't hurt...
If On The Floor was sung by any other halfway listenable female singer, it would've also been a hit...

Yes but the exposure from Idol and the big performance on there definitely helped. She'd been out of the limelight for 3 years, being on TV every week was a big deal just like "Fight For This Love" wouldn't have been as big without Cheryl judging and performing on X Factor.

The exposure on Idol helped. Of course, the whole world doesn't watch the show but through the 'word-of-mouth' and with Jennifer's exposure by doing Idol each week, she was obviously noticed and people were aware of her music, especially in the USA.

Agreed.

Despite the tv appearences, her album couldn't manage to reach 500k sales... let alone 400k. Disappointing.

She should leave the Pitbull, Flo Rida or the other no name singers (I refuse to call them rappers). The so called Mr. WorldWide is mr. crap.

If she wants to leave this show, then i don't see her being successful. She mainly earned over 50m$ because of American Idol and endorsements. The album did nothing.
