With 'Femme Fatale' Britney introduced the dubstep into the mainstream music charts with many popstars followed such as Rihanna, Chris Brown and even Madonna but of course.. she stettled that trend even before with her 2007 track 'Freakshow'

yeah it all started with "Blackout".. Even when I listen "Femme Fatle" I don't hear Britney follow current trends, I hear just a follow-up album to "Blackout" and "Circus"!!!

I don't think a 20 second faux-dubstep break produced by Max Martin counts as bringing dubstep into the mainstream charts.

It was just a natural progression of a sound that has made its way into the mainstream! The likes of Skrillex had a buzz around them before then!

Also Rihanna actually worked with dubstep producers (Chase & Status) on 'Rated R' rather than getting a pop producer to make a fake version.

Even then, dubstep fans would never accept even those Rihanna tracks as dubstep.

But that's another conversation for another day

Femme Fatale is the perfect example of showing Britney Spears as a follower... It's of course just by hazard that she's doing a dance/electro-pop at the time it's the current trend  ...

@Blackout: This album is definately overrated. It's an OK album but definately not the most influential album of the last 5 years  ...

You might like to check this Rolling Stone, Billboard and Pitchfork reports when they also take a dig to Rihanna's attempt on 'Rated R'...I'd like to know your thoughts  :

And here are Skrillex thoughts on Britney introducing dubstep into the mainstream music:

The more the stuff that is underground becomes mainstream, the more the underground is gonna change," Skrillex explained Monday. "I think it's gonna inspire people to obviously do something different.

Yeah, her albums seem to always reflect exactly what the current sound is at the time (and she usually releases AFTER the sound has become popular, thus following the trend, not setting it). It means a lot of her work sounds quite dated.

Britney started doing dance/electro-pop back in 2003 with 'In The Zone' (Toxic, Breathe on Me anyone?) Image

And about your thoughts on 'Blackout' you can feel free to write a letter to the several media outlets who claimed it to be and praised it..

I don't consider Toxic dance.

Anyway she did dance with Blackout and a lot of interesting experiments there. That was an album that announced the big dance/electro breakthrough in mainstream sound.

I know but when I think dance I think of today's music. Toxic is so pop, for me. That was a strange nomination/win.

Well one thing's for sure - I'd never even heard of dubstep prior to Britney's fans staking a claim to her being its pioneer.

This thread just shows immaturity and disrespect to many artists who have in their own way made a name for themselves, including some artists themselves. They should know themselves just how hard this industry is... expressing an opinion is ok, being disrespectful is a whole 'nother thing. To say Britney can't sing is a lie, cause obviously she can and she does have a voice many people find enjoyable. Do females need to belt out notes ala Mariah and Whitney to prove thy are good singers? I don't think so, they all have different styles and voices. I love Britney and do hear a good voice, maybe not the best (nowhere near it) but she can sing. Ok I'm done.

I don't usually get into these arguments but to discredit Britney's singing abilities just because she doesn't possess the vocal power of Whitney or the range of Mariah would be wrong.

I acknowledge that Britney's not the best vocalist but what's made her so successful is the way she uses her voice to connect to her audience. I've seen many a great singer fall by the wayside because they just belted their way through their careers without any emotion.

"Everytime" is far from my fave Brit song, but the emotion she expresses in that track is all the proof one needs to show that she has talent.

Furthermore, this is just a talent show. Chances are that the winner of X-Factor will probably fade into irrelevance by the time the next season comes around. If nothing else, Britney can at least bring thirteen years of solid experience to the judging panel. If anyone knows about being a superstar, it's her.

And one last point, "Simplicity and style is not grasped without talent". Britney would not have remained the Pop titan she is without being talented. She sings, dances, writes, and produces music and has definitely earned her title of Princess of Pop. Love her, hate her, so what you want about her, she's successful because of her talent and the hard work she's invested in her career.
