This has been a cult album for a while now. But Only Love cracking the iTunes top 30 (thanks to Radio 1) has finally sent the album sky high. The new Damien Rice - O?

The "Call Me Maybe" cover is good but the structure is a bit annoying.

I think "The Wolves" got his name out there and now his album's starting to re-emerge again after peaking at #7 last year, he'll probably be top 5 in the coming weeks.

I've tried getting into him, the mention of Paul Simon as an influence made me interested but he is nowhere near as wonderful as Paul. I think I can grow to like him more though.

It's been in the lower part of the German Albums Chart for some while, too, and who knows, maybe this can end as a future smasher...

Every Kingdom was my favourite album of 2011 together with James Vincent McMorrow!!!! He's the best singer-songwriter to emerge from the UK probably since David Gray... Still has a lot to improve. His melodies are great but his lyrics lack. In this sense, the comparison with Damien Rice is well off. I love Ben Howard but he lacks the depth in Damien's lyrics. Ben Howard is just chippy-chappy happy, doesn't go even closer to the more darker/depressing songs of Damien... Damien's lyrics also have more sexuality than Ben Howard does not have.

That said, I truly recommend Every Kingdom and especially the Deluxe Edition that has some amazing tracks in there, particularly Bones, which is his #1 song ever. I do really like his slow ones like Promise, Black Flies, Only Love...

the record company needs to re-release Keep Your Head Up, the best of his uptempo numbers!!!!!

I don't feel they have that much in common either. A nice tune, I think it'll stick on my playlist for a while. It's something I needed to hear today to feel more optimistic. 8-)

When I listen to it I feel I can imagine where I want to be in life, realistically. What I want people close to me to possess. Makes me think of what I want myself. It helps to fill my body with energy and my head with positive thoughts which should remain there.

I was only basing the Rice comparison on singles i heard + his singing style. I did say "but happier"!

And where were you both all these months before?? It shouldn't take a non-fan to be the first to post about him. :wink:
