^ The performance of "Throb" from the TVR tour is what made me LOVE the song. I used to detest that song (along with most of the songs from janet.) but I grew to love it (along with most of the songs from janet., lol).

I also love the "If" performance from that tour - when she stops and stares at the crowd and it goes wild... oh my God, iconic moment.

biscuits wrote:Have you heard Love Me? 'Damita Jo' would have smashed worldwide if this was the lead single - even after the Superbowl incident.
Yes! The R&B (and original) version of "Just A Little While", right? I love it and I think it's very catchy but I prefer the album version cos I love rock Janet, even if JALW isn't "Black Cat" kind of rock.

...and yes! :D

I agree she could still release it now it's still sounds great.

Not a big fan of "Heartbeat Love", and contrary to most what fans say, I don't think it would've done well. It's not anthemic and clean enough compared to say "On The Floor". IMO

Anyway,

This megamix made me - finally - fall in love with the janet. album. I love every song on there.

OMG, I think I love every album she has done at thos point. This hasn't happened to me since I fell in love with Mariah.

I hope she give us a hot new album this year.

Wow that mega mix was awesome!
The Janet. album is huge. It created a blueprint for the female popstar that is still here today.

^ I think 'Control' and 'Rhythm Nation 1814' are influential, but 'janet.' not so much.

'Control' and 'RN' had the biggest musical influence, but the janet. had the biggest influence in terms of style and image imo.
It was the Janet. era that was on rotation on MTV whilst Britney, Christina, pink etc were kids/teens.
The Janet. era introduced the edgy sexy Janet. It's that 'Janet' that's mimicked by them all.. I mean look at Britney 'slave 4 U' for example.

I've been listening to Mariah's Charmbracelet album a lot lately...

I wish she had given some of the songs to Janet...because to be honest, she could've really used them.

Janet would've been right in her element with songs like Lullaby, Boy (I Need You), There Goes My Heart and You Had Your Chance....
I can feel this light that's inside of me, growing fast into a bolt of lightning. I know one spark will shock the world...

I'm only a year or two older than Britney/Christina/Beyonce... it was the Rhythm Nation era I recall being the most iconic by far. I vividly remember watching the Control and RN eras on MTV, I am sure Pink (who is a little older than me) and Christina do as well.

Well I don't ever see britney in an black army outfit singing about social injustice. :/
I see her trying to be edgy and sexy, with a bare midriff (well young britney anyway). Therefore the 'if' Janet.
She was 13 when Janet. came out. Perfect age.
BUT I think Pink is older so you are right there. After all she paid tribute to J by performing 'miss u much'!

The only song I could see her doing is Yours, the others are too slow( for Mariah they are fast lol)to be Janet songs.

Actually, it's only "The One" that Janet can do from that album, the rest of the songs are too dull, she would have had a ultra flop if she released Charmbracelet instead of Mimi!

I have unconditional love for Janet, I wish she was as popular as she was in 2001.

She looks really good. Its like she doesn't age. I like how she's been making public appearances lately. This means she's up to something.

I don't think Janet is a better dancer than Ciara, but clearly... Janet has more influence and power and style!!!
I want an album from her as well!!!

Ciaras dancing consists of crunking and hip shaking.
She is definitely not a better dancer.
She is good at what she does, but she has made no progress.

Janet is the greatest known female dancer period.
And no not because of her name, or because she came before. But because she's got the moves and the swagger that's incomparable to other female dancer..
She's most diverse and developed dancer on the scene..
She's the only popstar/female dancer I can recall watching in my lifetime that has made me go 'wow' with her movement.

Well to be honest, Britney in her prime was better than Janet IMO! 8-)
Britney's style was more feminine with influences of ballet etc while Janets is all hippy hoppy stuff.

For now I agree with you, Janet still IS while Britney WAS! 8-)

Lmao!

Comments like that don't even need a response.

Britney (prime) couldnt even try to attempt Pleasure Principle or Rhythm Nation before falling on her feet.
I think by 'feminine' you mean floppy and awkward.

Just to be fair and unbiased, they have different strengths in dancing and artistry.

Britney has a trained background in ballet and other forms of dancing that no one in pop has touched so far, not even Madonna, Janet, J.Lo, Beyoncé, Shakira, Mýa or Ciara had the varied choreography she did in between the many videos she did from "...Baby One More Time" to "Toxic". They would not have given her heavyweights like Brian Friedman, Kevin Tancharoen and Wade Robson to choreograph her videos if she can't dance. That is why it disappoints many why she does not perform that way since 2007, given that she had the innate skills she exhibited throughout her peak. Of course, her music is limited to dance/pop.

Janet, on the other hand, as an artist, discussed many issues, and of course, she explored more with her sounds. As a dancer, her technique is very intricate but was more urban contemporary and jack swing-inspired, but obviously, what set her apart from the many singing dancers during that time is that she had that fierceness, lasting presence and creativity as seen in the moves and choreography she and Paula Abdul, Tina Landon, Gil Duldulao (among many others) pioneered in the videos she created during her reign.

There is a reason why there was enough room for both artists to become very popular during their career highs.

We are not really discussing this are we?

Just look at Janet's videography from the 80s up until NOW. Heck, even just her 00s work with Gil. She has covered in them various styles of dance. Her dancing is diverse, just like her music. It is most certainly not all urban/hip hop.
She has used African, hawaiian, asian, Jazz, tecktonic, military and so o to inspire her. Not just American street dance.
She had the best teacher in her brother and has been dancing on stage since the age of 7. She played her part on the tv musical series 'Fame'. If I remember correctly she did go to a ballet classes as a kid.
This is someone who CONTINUES, not 'was', but IS still incorporating and mastering new styles, with 30 years of experience.
I find it ridiculous the way people put that britney on such a high pedestal to this DAY, when she dropped off about 6 years ago, after only 4 years from her debut. 4 years that saw in my judgement, no progression in her styles of dance, and 4 years where still nobody even questioned who was the best...Janet. People's opinions didn't change then, they shouldn't change now.

I don't want to take anything away from Janet! I know she is great and I love her (dancing) but Britney was better from 2000 - 2004!
