I think Primadonna could've also gone a bit higher considering there are some songs above it which haven't had huge promo at all (e.g. Flo Rida's Whistle), but all in all that's a success 8-)

Promo doesn't automatically equal sales. Flo Rida sells a lot because he's Flo Rida and his singles are hot. People hear "that new Flo Rida" song and they want it.

Marina is a niche artist so not that many people know of her, let alone the song. The fact that she had promo won't suddenly make her mainstream.

But Of Monsters And Men is also a niche artist, they do indie pop/rock, and still their album and single both reached the top 5 here :wink:

I don't see how that is in any way relevant to what I said.

You said "there are artists with no promo above her" as if somehow having promo automatically meant you should be above all artists without promo. I merely elaborated on my point that that is definitely NOT how it works.

You can't compare artists like that.

At first statement: Sounded like you can't have major success as a "niche artist" and I just named a counter example.

I see your point but promo should actually have the effect to put your record over others with no promo, otherwise it doesn't reach what its effect should be.

Not exactly. Promo is supposed to have the effect of making an album sell MORE of what it would have sold WITHOUT PROMO, but that doesn't have a direct effect on what other albums sell. So Marina would have probably debuted outside the Top 25 without promo, promo just helped reach a higher position and bigger sales, just that. More or better promo could help her more, but hey, it just debuted and Primadonna isn't even that old. :lol:

Promo is not to beat others, it's to sell more relative to oneself. Plus my point was also that some artists simply need more promo than others, and Flo Rida (giving him as an example because he is above her) is one of those who for singles needs very little to sell a lot. Apparently, Marina needs more to sell a bit less. That doesn't necessarily equal a missed opportunity on her part.

Wow, she's doing very good here! Primadonna is her first single success in the charts and it's jumping so much places (60 - 43 - 21)! And the album is also doing very good (The Family Jewels peaked only at #100...)
