Four weeks of blowing...

ARIA Top 50 Singles Chart
Image
ImageImage
- ariacharts.com.au

• Yep, no surprises as Flo Rida retains the #1 position once again and strengthens his strangehold as the chart star of 2012.

• Next week, expect to see Flo Rida there once again, especially now that he has a video on rotation on the music channels.

• The lower end of the top 10 will be the real place to watch next week. Chris Brown should make an impressive debut around #8 with 'Don't Wake Me Up', which I tipped to be a big hit. If he wants any hope of it making #1 (note: he hasn't had a #1 single since 'No Air' in 2008), he will need to drop a video soon

• Kylie Minogue has made a surprise reappearance on the music scene with her single-only release 'Timebomb'. Whilst it was off to a good start, expect it to ease off over the next few days before it begins a more standard chart-run. Had the single not been iTunes exclusive for the time, she could have scored a higher debut than 'All The Lovers', but she'll have to settle for something around #19

• Guy Sebastian has hit up nearly every major promotional outlet for his new single 'Gold' and he should reap the rewards next week, expect a debut around #11

• Delta notches up a sixth week in the top 10 with 'Sitting On Top Of The World' proving to be her biggest hit since 'In This Life'. However, I think its top ten time is over and we should expect a second single to drop mid-June around the end of The Voice

• Gym Class Heroes' make an impressive leap with 'The Fighter' flying into the top 15 this week, becoming their third consecutive hit to be lifted from 'The Papercut Chronicles II'. It should be fairly steady next week.

• A barrage of fleeting entries come from The Voice contestants, whilst Rita Ora makes an appearance with her lead solo single 'How We Do (Party)'. Given the popularity of Ke$ha, Katy Perry & Jessie J in Australia, I see no reason why this couldn't go top 20

• Katy Perry has dropped 'Wide Awake' at radio as the eighth official single of the 'Teenage Dream' era. I'm not expecting massive things for this one, even though her videos are always great, expect a chart run more akin to 'The One That Got Away' or 'Thinking of You'.

• Jason Derulo is a bit of a hit machine in Australia, so he'll be hoping to score more success with his fresh coca-cola single 'Undefeated'. Expect a debut around #42 next week.

That's it this week ;)

A lot of shufflin’ in the higher regions of the chart this week. The Temper Trap grab their first chart topping album in their homeland with their second album. The self-titled set beats the #9 peak of Conditions. Slash’ second effort lands right behind at #2, faring one place better than his self-titled debut. Adele is down 1 to #3 and last week’s #1 album from Keith Urban sildes to #4. Tenacious D score their first Top 10 placing Down Under, entering at #6. Country outfit The McClymonts are new at #7 with their third effort. Florence + The Machine move up 2 to #8 on the back of their tour. Ceremonials has also just gone 2 x Platinum for shipments and digital units of 140 000 units. Adam Lambert’s second album enters the Top 10 at #10.

Looks like Glee can’t enter the Top 10 like they used to a couple of years ago. The Graduation album enters at #12. The Ultimate Bee Gees re-enters the Top 50 at #13 after the passing of Robin Gibb. Prince and Seal’s Best Ofs suffer quite huge drops. On the other hand, 360 is up 7 to #17 thanks to Child. As Princess Of China is starting to make ground, Coldplay keeps moving back up, climbing 14 spots to #21. Rebecca Ferguson’s huge jump on the singles chart is mirrored on the parent album’s performance. Heaven is up 24 to… #24.

Florence + The Machine’s debut re-emerges at #27. Queensland band The Medics enter at #29 with their debut. Marina & The Diamonds’ UK #1 album comes at #32 in Australia. There’s also a debut from The Gossip three spots below. New Kids On The Block are in at #38 on the back of their tour with Backstreet Boys, whose Very Best Of premieres at #47. City & Colour’s latest album re-enters at #39, also thanks to a tour.

Next week: John Mayer may FINALLY grab his first #1 album in Australia. Regina Spektor will do well, around #3 or #4. Sigur Ros, Scissor Sisters, Ladyhawke and Julia Stone will all be Top 20, Melody Gardot somewhere in the 30s. The Ultimate Bee Gees will move into the Top 10.

Isn't the video selling well on iTunes? It could debut higher based on that too.

Loreen's "Euphoria" could maybe chart in the top 100 too.

The 'Timebomb' video is #2 on US iTunes Video Chart, but is not in the top 100 on Australian iTunes.

My mistake. Now it all depends on airplay at this point. Her team should schedule an appearance on The Voice Australia too, it would do wonders for this song.

If she does, I wonder if she'll outdo Lena's Satellite from 2010 (debuted/peaked at #37 from memory).

WOW thanks. Where did you get them?

EDIT: just found. Seriously Paul Cashmere needs to stop repeating week after week that The Voice is crap show, especially when he praises Young Talent Time.

I also just wish someone more professional had access to those sales than this joke of a journalist. Mind you, if these stupid rants enable us to get figures, then why not? At least it's great to have them again (and not bad figures).

OK this explains how songs can reach a cert after just 3 weeks in the top 10. If this is a number a No.-10-single sells, I'm really curious about the weekly sales of a No.-1-single :o .

I honestly thought that a #10 single was selling a bit more as This is also what you needed to sell to be in the Top 10 back in December 2010.

Flo Rida must be selling well over 30 k units at #1 at the moment. I'm sure that he did over 40k a few weeks ago. Same for Call Me Maybe.

Then it's already clear that Flo Rida ends up with 4x Platinum or more and Carly Rae Jepson with 5-6x Platinum  ... And this without even being upper hits!

With upper hits, I meant something like Party Rock Anthem: Something you just see once in a few years...
Call Me Maybe is a big success, but nothing outstanding, while 5-6x Platinum would mean something outstanding (which isn't the case anymore looking at the many singles to reach this cert in the last 3 years).

Oh not that debate about accreditations again. Timmy, do you seriously NEED to bring this discussion every single week? OK, you think certs are too high but do you need to ramble about it every week? Move onto something else. Sorry if I sound mean but it's getting tiring.

Don't think it'll reach that mark so soon. Its big sales this week can be partly attributed to the reduction in price on iTunes. Nevertheless, I think it's now safe to say that 21 will end up as a million seller, an incredible achievment in today's market.

Here are a few iTunes positions after the Voice performances:

1. Karise Eden - Landslide
3. Fatai V - Ave Maria
9. Rachael Leahcar - Someone To Watch Over Me
15. Emma Louise Birdsall - The Look Of Love
21. Chris Sebastian - I Can't Stand The Rain
29. Glenn Cunningham - Closer
39. Viktoria Bolonina - Smells Like Teen Spirit
78. Danni Da Ros - When Love Takes Over

The original versions:

51. Fleetwood Mac - Landslide (the Dixie Chicks' cover is just one spot above, at #50)
58. Ne Yo - Closer
68. Beyoncé - Ave Maria
106. Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
168. Seal - I Can't Stand The Rain
196. David Guetta Feat. Kelly Rowland - When Love Takes Over
250. Ella Fitzgerald - Someone To Watch Over Me

Seal's Kiss From A Rose is #28 and #81. Delta Goodrem's Born To Try is at #65. I suppose that both performed those tracks.

The JB Hi Fi 'Buy 2 Get 1 Free' deals have also just started. Expect big moves for some catalogue albums in next sunday's albums chart.
