I'm re-listening to "Tusk" and I am writing my thoughts as we speak. So expect my little review no later than Thursday after I make sure it is right. :D

You could write small reviews, just pointing the highlights and favourite moments of every album plus brief comments, so it'd take less time. :)

Well yes but this album is large and needs a real good listen so I need to feel OK to judge it fairly and when I write something I do tend to ramble a bit. I've been so tired over the last week or 2 though. :-?

I'm expecting your review of Tusk to be nothing short of epic, much like the album itself 8-)

I think you're doing a good job. It's hard to listen to so many albums, especially when you have so many other music you want to. I'm sure you'll get through them eventually.

The Critic ~ Album #12: Fleetwood Mac - Tusk
Image

Rating 7.3/10

Really good pop/folk album, but might be quite lengthy for a new listener. Stevie’s voice is so lovely and has a sweet yet rustic quality, yum. As with long albums on first listen some of the tracks seem a little blah and forgettable. The album opens with “Over & Over” a very soft slice of country/folk, relaxing, then “The Ledge” was good with its unexpected shift to an up-tempo shouty pop sound, fun but I thought I was listening to the song "Cotton Eyed Joe" at first though.

Their music on the album is perfect for relaxing summer days when you pull up a chair and let the breeze run through your hair (because you are worth it). The albums core sound is a fusion of pop and folk, although there are small sprinkles of country and even rock incorporated throughout. The album isn’t all about Stevie though Lindsey Buckingham the male member has plenty of vocal moments as well, he has an enjoyable voice as well.

As a summation all of these tracks were the best on the first few listens - “Over & Over”, “The Ledge”, “Sara”, “What Makes You Think You're The One”, “Storms”, “That's All For Everyone”, “Angel”, “Never Make Me Cry”, “Honey Hi”, “Beautiful Child” & the title track “Tusk”. So if you have enjoyed what you have already heard from them you are sure to really like this one as well.

Tusk is an underrated work of art. Destined to be remembered as "the followup to Rumours" when it was arguably a more interesting album. Of course it isn't as classic as Rumours and is perhaps more indulgent spanning 20 tracks, but it's a very intriguing record and it was daring for them to do the exact opposite of what was expected when a Rumours II would've been like printing money in 1979.

Yeah it was a really good album, it's one of those albums that will grow and grow on me I reckon. I've had a little listen to the next choice and it does sound pretty good. :D

HE'S BACK!!!! :o

I need that! :P Should I start with this one or "Rumours"?!

Lucky you, CC! Your next #1 is just 7 albums ahead.

 Well wait and see, I hope I like it! :D I think maybe "Rumours" or even "Tango In The Night" would be a good start but this one is also a nice start but it's 20 tracks long. :P

Well I suggested Tusk to Billy since I know he likes more unconventional stuff, knowing he's a big Yoko fan 8-)

Rumours is such a classic album, but it's such a familiar album because pretty much the entire album has been overplayed on classic rock radio, whereas Tusk and Sara are the only "Tusk" tracks that really still get played, and even then maybe 1/10th as often as you hear The Chain or Dreams. Plus "Tusk" is the album that really shows off the individual talents of Buckingham, Nicks and McVie, it's almost like those three made EP's and they were shuffled to make on FM album, whereas Mac was really the work of a band unit. Buckingham lets his experimental side come through with a bunch of rockabilly/punk inspired tunes and Stevie's lyrics become deeper and more mysterious. It is not the accessible pop/rock album Rumours is, but it's a more interesting listen.

I agree some of the tracks sound kinda different to what I expected, thanks to Lindsey - although not too far removed from their other stuff but it's a really good album! :D

Yep, Lindsey's stuff is some of their most interesting stuff, even on Tango and Say You Will. You can tell he's far more at home doing more experimental things than just doing "Go Your Own Way" style songs.

Go Insane is my fave of his solo albums... despite the embarassingly bad video for the title track where he has the worst 80s hair imaginable
