Alexandra Burke snubbed by radios: [IT'S DISAPPOINTING]

Alexandra Burke's new single 'Let It Go' has flopped in the charts after receiving no radio support from key broadcasters.

Neither Radio 1 nor the Global Radio Group - who own Capital FM amongst other influential stations - opted to playlist the new single from the X Factor champion.

The song charted at No. 23 in the midweek charts last Wednesday, but had slipped to No. 28 by Friday. In today's final listings, it is a disappointing No. 33.

It's a far cry from the No. 1 heights achieved by her previous hits 'Hallelujah', 'Bad Boys' and 'Start Without You'. Her previous lowest-charting effort was 'The Silence', which only managed a peak of No. 16 after being available for a whole year as an album track.

Alexandra's second album Heartbreak On Hold is released tomorrow (June 4), and the star will no doubt have everything crossed that its performance saves her from being dropped by her record label.

Earlier today we reported that she said of the 'Let It Go' radio snub: "Obviously it's disappointing. But what can I do? The main thing for me is I'm proud of my music and the fans all love what I'm doing."

She optimisitcally posted on Twitter this afternoon: "Everyday I feel like I'm getting just that little bit stronger... It may only be a little, but its a lot to me :) x (sic)"

That's the spirit, Alex!

I wanted to open this topic because IMO that should be banned by LAW! :-? :-? :-? :-? If piracy is iilegal, then so should radios be fined for not playing certain artist..

It's the typical fickle UK market, you're either extremely in or extremely out and there is little in the middle ground.

jp, it can't be banned by law, because there are millions of others not getting played on the radio either. I just find it bizarre that a mainstream station wouldn't support a song (e.g. 'Elephant') that is top 10 on iTunes. It is incredibly rare for there to be a top 10 single here that isn't at least top 40 on radio.

Why isn't the radio supporting her songs anymore?

^-- She's hated in the UK for some reason. So many people diss her for no apparent reason... I guess she is just one of them people that isn't very likeable. Shame considering she was liked by Millions a few years ago.

She should have gotten Beyonce on a track years ago and Promoted it in the US. She had potential but it just feels like her time is up now!

^ But Delta got played on radio!

"Sitting On Top Of The World" was the most added song to Australian radios on its first week of release.

Nicola Roberts also had zero support from radios. If I'm not wrong "Beat Of My Dream" only made the #800's on airplay chart, and both Lucky Day and YoYo failed to gain any airplay at all.

I guess most UK radios work by payola? I don't know :-?

The fact she's no longer with Simon Cowell as something to do with it. Just like Clive Davis had a lot of influence in the American music business back in the day (including paying radio stations to not play Kelly Clarkson when she didn't gave in his requests to change the My December album) :-?
If you can't handle me at my Amanda Bynes, you don't deserve me at my Beyoncé.

I think she got most of her hate after her X Factor stint last year!!!
And from her current material, it's below par from her great debut! She must not complain because her latest album is just average at best. She thought she'd jump onto the dance bandwagon but it obviously failed.

We need originality. Not material that anyone could have sang
There was no Alex touch to it!

It is a shame, that it almost seems like it has become cool to like Alexandra!! I reckon most of the people on twitter who have a go do like her, just it's uncool to stick up for her.

It doesn't help matters when radio DJ's make snide remarks about her now and again on Radio 1 and just a lack of support from the industry. I think if her music was a bit better it could help but still her music is just as good as the stuff that is in the charts right now... why should she have to work twice as hard?!

The radio sitch is difficult in the UK. There are 2 radio stations which impact the charts really (Radio 1 and Capital FM) if you don't have support from either of these than you're pretty f***ed as other radio stations follow these

She's not the only artist to get snubbed by radio.

True, but in terms of artists that get chart success, she is definitely one of the only ones!

Most of the time, when an artist gets a hit, radio will start supporting them with their next single (e.g. Radio 1 not supporting 'Moves Like Jagger' at first but they playlisted 'Payphone' straight away)! 'Elephant' became a hit but no-one supported 'Let It Go'.

However it's not impossible for a song to become a success without radio, it is harder, but definitely not impossible! Shontelle's 'Impossible' became a top 10 hit when the song wasn't in the top 100 of either radio or TV airplay

There should be a good reason if she's Blacklisted on radio.

What did she do? She talks too much? She's too loud and extroverted? The UK has been crying out for a diva of their own after sucking up to all the American pop queens from Madonna to Rihanna, and now they finally get one but they decide it's too much :-?

People keep saying she's too loud/obnoxious/arrogant, but in reality, she's just very confident, and the British public tends to view that as a negative characterisitic to have. Celebrities are applauded for being able to laugh at themselves, and not take themselves too seriously. It's all about modesty and being down to Earth.

^I like Alex.

I don't understand how people can tolerate Kanye/Jay-Z, and trash Alex. She's funny, talented, and I like her big mouth. It makes her human.

Has she offended anyone?

So, this is the reason Kelly Rowland was hated so much. Although, I felt Kelly was "being extra" on X-Factor. And Alex was no better with her Tamar Braxton, "dot com" expression.

What would the UK do with a Tamar Braxton, if they hate Alex?

This reminds me of Pixie Lott last year. I don't know if she was snubbed by radios and obviously it's not the same, as she still managed a #1 with All About Tonight and a top 10 with Kiss the Stars, but she was HUGE in her previous era with a million-selling album, and now seems to be struggling to go Gold.

It's so lopsided.

Songwise, her voice doesn't stand out to me and her songs are just mediocre .

Personality wise, she seems fake, arrogant and annoying.

I understand why she's flopping IMO.
