:: BETTER THE DEVIL YOU KNOW ::
UK Peak: 2 | AUS Peak: 4
We have to wave goodbye to another Kylie classic! 'Better The Devil You Know' is undoubtedly one of her best singles from the PWL era and it was clearly a milestone in her career. It still sounds great, hasn't dated much, but like most of her material from the early years, it lacks variety, which made me place it at the lower end of the Top 20. Still a great tune, though.

:: I BELIEVE IN YOU ::
UK Peak: 2 | AUS Peak: 6
The first single from Kylie's 'Ultimate Kylie' compilation, 'I Believe In You', is an amazing mid-tempo dance-pop song that I have many memories related to. The ballad version is just as flawless. Did you know? The song was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2006, in the 'Best Dance Recording' category.

:: CONFIDE IN ME ::
UK Peak: 2 | AUS Peak: 1
The haunting melody and the sensual lyrics combined with the soaring vocals make 'Confide In Me' a standout in Kylie's career. It was the second milestone after 'Better The Devil You Know', and showed a new side of Kylie once again.

ThomyX wrote:@JSparksFan: Haha, I knew that it was going to cause some disappointment but trust me, making a list of the best Kylie singles is like the most difficult thing ever - you don't want to let any of them go! :lol: I'm pretty sure that there are going to be some others that you'll like in the rest of the countdown, though. 8-) Talking about the French monologue in YDNY, did you know that there are actually four versions of the song and Kylie is saying the monologue in different languages in them? There are French (single/album version), German, Spanish and Japanese versions. They're fun, check them out on YouTube if you haven't heard them already! :D
I checked them out. I had no idea that Kylie was so multilingual! The French version is still the best though. 8-)

Back to the countdown...

Better The Devil You Know: 8.5/10 - I loved this from the time Paul introduced it to me last summer. The chorus is so infectious and catchy, so essentially Kylie. I always found it funny because it sounds like she says, "I'll f**k you and forget" but maybe that's just my vile mind.

I Believe In You: 6/10 - Kylie definitely does ballads better than some of her Pop peers but this was definitely a bit below average for me.

Confide In Me: 7/10 - When Paul first introduced me to this last summer, I really didn't like it much but now, I find the chorus to be absolutely gorgeous. Sure the verses are still a bit slow but I love the message of the song. I can definitely relate to this one. :)

This is the best bunch so far!

Better The Devil You Know is one of her best earlier singles (Shocked is my favourite, wonder if i'm gonna see it on your chart...). As you said, it hasn't dated that much. I Believe In You is one of her most beautiful record, that sound suits Kylie amazingly. Confide In Me is a classic, surely a standout of her career.

"Better The Devil You Know" = this one's certainly among her signature hits and definitely represents a defining moment in her career, in regards to both her sound and especially her image. she's always been beautiful, but I really think she was at her peak during the Rhythm Of Love era: just heart-stoppingly stunning. <3

"I Believe In You" = I ranked this just a spot higher on my Kylie countdown, so I'm glad to see we're in agreement on this one! such a lovely song. I've actually never checked out the ballad version, so I'll have to give that a listen!

"Confide In Me" = seeing this gem outside the Top 10 is certainly a shocker! although I'm usually not a massive fan of Kylie's more experimental material, this song is just so undeniably gorgeous and haunting. brilliant!

Here's the newest update!

:: SLOW ::
UK Peak: 1 | AUS Peak: 1 | US Peak: 91
Woo, it's getting hot in here! 'Slow', the lead single from 'Body Language', was a huge surprise for Kylie fans after the 'Fever' era, because as the title indicates, Kylie slowed things down a little bit. The iconic, hot video was one of my favourite things on TV when it was first released. 'Slow' is a song that never bores you. Or at least not me! Did you know? To this date, 'Slow' is the last Kylie single that entered the Billboard Hot 100.

:: I SHOULD BE SO LUCKY ::
UK Peak: 1 | AUS Peak: 1 | US Peak: 28
We're entering the Top 15 and now it's getting serious. From #15 to #1, I love all the songs so much that I would rank them all at #1 if I could (or at least Top 3)! The next one on the list is the innocent pop gem, 'I Should Be So Lucky'. Did you know? The music video has two versions - one with indoor scenes and one with outdoor scenes.

:: SHOCKED ::
UK Peak: 6 | AUS Peak: 7
'Shocked' is a song which has a single mix that is (in my opinion) far more superior to the album version. The 'DNA Mix' with the amazing rap break from Jazzi P is one of the finest moments of PWL Kylie. And there's still more to come from 'Rhythm of Love'! Did you know? The music video created a stir in the media due to its sexual overtones!

"Slow" = I remember being absolutely APPALLED when I heard this for the first time! I was hoping for Fever Part 2, but I've really come to appreciate the subtle, hypnotic brilliance of this song. I actually ranked it at No. 16 too! :D

"I Should Be So Lucky" = so cheesy, so dated, and yet still so fantastic <3 I ranked this one just a teensy bit lower (No. 19).

"Shocked" = now this one I would've liked to see a bit higher, but I totally agree about the DNA Mix being better than the album version. the over-1-and-a-half-minutes-long intro in the album version is so unnecessary. :lol:

After hearing the great "Body Language" album, I'd be interested more in a Top 40 or whatever of all of her songs, not just singles. :D

@phoenix98: Wow, I'm glad you like the newest batch, I also remember the time when 'Slow' came out but I didn't really have a wide taste back then (I was only 10 at the time) but I remember being in love with it and the video just blew my mind! :lol: I totally agree with your opinion on 'Shocked' - that intro on the album shouldn't be there lol and I really miss Jazzi P from the single version whenever I listen to Rhythm Of Love! Oh and I hope you don't mind that I pm'd a link to your countdown to crazycrazy! :D

@crazycrazy: Kylie's like a treat for every day, she has a hundred different sides and they're all lovely! Sent you a pm with two Kylie charts, check them out if you have the time! :wink:

Slow: 4.5/10 - I didn't like this one last summer and I don't really care for it now. :lol: Kylie's voice on this is borderline annoying. :oops:

I Should Be So Lucky: 5.5/10 - Hmm...I remember liking this more last summer. Now it sounds so dated.

Shocked: 6/10 - Best of the batch but still pretty below average for Kylie's standards. :-?

Thanks for the replies again guys, here's the last bunch before the Top 10! :D

#13
Image
:: WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO ::
UK Peak: 6 | AUS Peak: 11
'What Do I Have To Do', the third single from 'Rhythm of Love' is one of the most instant tracks on the album and arguably one of Kylie's best PWL singles. It's insanely catchy and has a great video as well! The only reason I didn't rank it higher is because I think it works a lot better live. Just check out the Showgirl: Homecoming or the Aphrodite Les Folies performance! Did you notice? Dannii Minogue makes a cameo in the music video!

#12

:: BETTER THAN TODAY ::
UK Peak: 32 | AUS Peak: 55
Hmm I'm sure most of you won't agree with me, but I honestly think that 'Better Than Today' is one of Kylie's most underrated singles. I love it since the day I heard it on shaky videos recorded by fans at her US tour. It's fun, has clever lyrics and sends a positive message. Who didn't want 'tomorrow' to be better than 'today' at least once? :D

:: GET OUTTA MY WAY ::
UK Peak: 12 | AUS Peak: 69
Just missing out on the Top 10 we have 'Get Outta My Way', a perfect pop tune that had a poor chart run which it really didn't deserve. It's actually one of Kylie's most unsuccessful singles in Australia! Anyway, I think that both the song and the video are amazing, it was an instant Kylie classic for me.

"What Do I Have To Do" = this one is definitely Top 10-worthy for me (Top 5, really), but I'm glad to see it at least came close on your list! the video really is fantastic too, easily the best from the Rhythm Of Love era.

"Better Than Today" = ah, I remember this being undeservedly high on your last countdown too :lol: easily one of my least favorite singles from her entire career. it's not TERRIBLE, but I can't think of any Kylie singles that are truly TERRIBLE. it's certainly not single-worthy, though.

"Get Outta My Way" = although this one's a bit too high for me, I can certainly agree that it's an excellent track. its chart performance in the UK and especially Australia was truly shocking!

@luckyONE: Thank you so much! :D I'm glad to hear you like the countdown and it's great that you like Kylie, I hope you'll stay around when I reveal the Top 10, too! :D

@phoenix98: Yes, WDIHTD really is the best from the Rhythm of Love era, I never get tired of it! :) Ah you say BTT is 'undeservedly high'? How dare you! :lol: Nah, I guess I have to admit that I'm among those few who appreciate it and I can't share my love for it with everyone! :(

@GoodBoyGoneBad: Yes, I totally agree! 8-)

We're finally entering the Top 10!

#10

:: NEVER TOO LATE ::
UK Peak: 4 | AUS Peak: 14
Woo, it's never too late to mention 'Never Too Late' I guess, it's a single that is arguably one of my Top 10 favourite Kylie tunes. It's 23 years old but hasn't dated much, it's such a catchy, fun song and like most Kylie songs, sends a positive message that lifts me up. Did you know? It was stated in Kylie's official biography that this track was the favourite Kylie song of the late INXS lead singer (and Kylie's former boyfriend), Michael Hutchence.

:: ALL THE LOVERS ::
UK Peak: 3 | AUS Peak: 13
'All the Lovers' was such an instant Kylie classic no one even doubted that it would go down as one of Kylie's best singles. It is also one of Kylie's many artistic peaks in her career. The music video is the best one she's recorded to date in my opinion!

"Never Too Late" = whaaaaat? I love this one too, it made my Top 50, but I didn't realize you love it QUITE so much! I'd say it's the best Enjoy Yourself single, though "Tears On My Pillow" is a not-too-distant second for me. I never knew Michael Hutchence was such a fan! I think I remember reading somewhere that he liked "Better The Devil You Know" too, but I could be wrong about that.

"All The Lovers" = I really love this one too, but I still feel like calling it one of her "artistic peaks" might be a BIT too generous :lol: it was certainly a welcome return to form for a lead single after the much-too-rocky-for-my-tastes "2 Hearts".
