Playstation Vita: New Sony Handheld!

Sony's NGP has a name.

Sony Computer Entertainment president Kaz Hirai took the stage at Sony's E3 2011 press conference today to announce PlayStation Vita, the official name of the handheld.

Vita means "Life" in Latin.

There will be two models of Vita:

Wi-Fi Model: 24,980 Yen (including tax), $249 and euro 249
3G/Wi-Fi Model: 29,980 Yen (including tax), $299 and euro 299

Sony said the Vita will launch "in global market starting the end of 2011."

This looks amazing - far better than the PSP. The graphics look so crisp and that touch sensitive back panel is so innovative. *Do want*

Smart phones aren't that well designed for handheld gaming IMO, particularly if they are reliant on just a touchscreen. I don't think they could ever deliver the same gaming experience as a PSP or DS.

I agree but can someone tell me why this is better than the PSP? like spec wise.

This comment on Youtube sums up my view on this:

It looks nice and everything but last time i checked i didnt see? a umd tray guess that means ill have to buy my games online and all those psp games i have are obsolete

The PlayStation Vita will be out on February 22, just three months after it launches in Japan, in the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Latin America.

26 Launch titles! excited for these the most, and of course the FF X remake!

I was thinking to buy this thing. But I changed my mind, there are other things I want to spend my money on.

Not sure how this will do considering the expensive launch price and the fact that the 3ds will be under half of it's price, and also you will need to spend an additional £30 on a memory card just for it to function. :-?

But that's it with Playstation, overall for me. It's all about technology, less about feeling and the joyfulness that comes along with the simplicity of Nintendo's graphics.

it's confirmed the update that will make the vita plays PS1 games is coming later this month! #YAS :cry:

also, All Stars Battle Royal is now confirmed to be released on the PS Vita too (Playsation's "version" of Nintendo's Super Smash Bros.)
