The expression that Cheryl Cole is only successful because she's white was said by the girl in the video.
And I'd like to add that I've read this about other artists before and I doubt that once a coloured musician flops, it's just because of the skin colour...

The theory that a radio station should be fined for not playing a particular artist and somehow relating that to the legality of piracy is both baffling and amusing me here..

Simon is an awful record exec. Great at the talent show malark but not at promoting a successful artist over a long period.

She's also right about her problems not ending when she left Syco, RCA did her wrong too.

She's also correct about the UK public being quite fickle and making an artist huge one album and then leaving them to flop on the next.
I agree

She talks sense IMO, she *mostly* sticks to the facts and knows her stuff too. I can't believe she managed to talk about it for 12 minutes

No one is saying that in this thread. Only the girl in the video, I thought I made that clear. You still haven't answered my question.

Do you think Cheryl would be as successful if she was a black woman?

^ I don't think it's as simple as that. Rihanna's success has probably been aided by her ethnicity, because it differentiates her from other female pop stars.

Its the problem with X Factor Simon loses interest once someone else becomes cool.

Shayne Ward could've been a megastar but he started focusing on Leona who got ignored when Alexandra came along who got ignored once 1D came along.

They all have/had potential to have long successful careers but I cant see any of them having much success now. He'd/they'd serve better winning the competition being obligated to release 1 album with SyCo and then Simon selling them to other labels.
Uk the only way

Plus because she's perceived as being American, which automatically makes her cooler.

Exactly, I'm talking about UK artists here. Anyone can share their opinion, on whether Cheryl would be as successful if she looked like Alexandra.

Yeah, but it's still not quite as clear cut. If Cheryl looked like a less attractive white person she'd be less successful. Her success lies in her beauty, so I guess if society considers lighter skin to be more beautiful, then I guess you have a valid point. What'd make a better comparison in my opinion, would be to say, what if Beyonce was darker skinned? What if Kelly Rowland was lighter skinned? Would their success be any different?

She's very misinformed. I'm sure she didn't quite make 4 #1s from her first album

JLS haven't had 10 more albums, the UK probably do listen to more Dance/Pop than soulful and what song is "Wanna Be Startin Somethin"

All very good points, which I was going to comment on myself!

Another blip - she says it took 4 years to release her second album. It actually took 2.5 years (or more accurately, 1.5 years since the re-release). .

No, it's not just the girl in the video, I even read it from time to time on this forum :o .

I think if Cheryl did the same music, had the same background (Girls Aloud) and the same influence with her music videos, her image and her radio presence, then yes no doubt she would be as successful as a black as she is now...

No because regardless of their skin colour, they are American. I'm talking about the UK charts regarding UK home grown talent. Your bolded point lets me know you got what I'm saying, the rest :-? [/b]

But if race was a factor, then why did millions of people vote for her to win 'The X Factor' and why did 800,000 people buy 'Overcome'?

I'm not sure you get what I'm saying. Let me rephrase closer to what you've said; would a black Cheryl even get in girls aloud (Javine), get the same influence with her videos and get a radio presence?
