That was a bit closer than I was hoping to see. Hopefully Billboard says something by the end of the night.

HDD

The numbers are staggering, especially in this day and age, as XL/Columbia diva Adele’s 21 keeps on rolling in the deep, due in large part to her NBC primetime special with Matt Lauer. The Grammy winner returns for her 24th week at #1, with sales of 74k (up 27%) and a total of 9.3 million in the U.S. alone in her remarkable 68th week.

Adele’s 19 ties for the lead in double-digit gains with 21, moving #24-21, +27%.

From Billboard:

For Adele's part, her anthem has helped last year's "21" stake out a long reign at the top of the Billboard 200, with the album expected to notch its 24th non-consecutive week at No. 1 with Wednesday's chart.
Hopefully this means week #24 will be confirmed tomorrow.

Billboard wrote:Country king Alan Jackson debuts at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 albums chart with his latest effort, "Thirty Miles West." The set sold 73,000 in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Back on the Billboard 200, Adele's "21" returns to No. 1 for a 24th week, selling 75,000 (up 30%). The set is basking in the glow of the singer's NBC TV special, "Adele Live in London," which aired on June 3. "21" holds the most frames at No. 1 since Prince & the Revolution's "Purple Rain" soundtrack also spent 24 weeks atop the list in 1984 and 1985. Only eight albums -- including "21" -- have ruled for at least 24 weeks.

"21" has never left the top 10 in its entire 68-week chart run, dropping only as low as No. 7 on the Dec. 10, 2011, chart. It debuted at No. 1 on the March 12, 2011, tally.

Yes, No. 2 is right. It peaked relatively low but managed to get some catalog appeal and finally end as the all-time-longest charter... Everytime Andrea Berg releases a new album, her Best Of re-enters the chart, which is why it could reach those high sales despite this low peak.
In Austria, this Best Of is even more successful with 495 charting weeks: It's still charting there and is even outselling her last 2 studio albums at the moment.

No. 1 on the list is not only the century's No. 1, but also the all-time-No. 1. Mensch and Swing When You're Winning didn't have an amazing chart performance, therefore I assume that they sold A LOT when having been at No. 1. And No. 4, Unheilig's album, was a Adele-like-success: Their album stayed at No. 1 for 23 weeks, over a year in the top 10 and still stands in the top 50 far over 2 years after its release. It wasn't just the No.-1-album of 2010 but also the No.-5-album of 2011 and it's undercertified, considering it reached 7x Platinum at the beginning of 2011 while it should be at 8-9x Platinum in the mean time (1.6-1.8 mio.)...

^ I was just about to ask about Unheilig. It would've been weird if with 23 weeks at number one it sold as much as Adele with "just" 8.

I always forget how massive Robbie Williams was in Germany! Wow.

Anyway, amazing accomplishment for Adele, and she's still charting high.

:D This was on Spanish version NBC's official Olympics website...

http://telemundo.nbcolympics.com/news-b ... mpico.html

Adele and Leona Lewis will sing the Olympic hymn

The organizers of the Summer Games which begin July 27 in London, have decided to make way for the most important voices of the British current situation and make them the real stars of the opening round of this competitive event, which brings together the best athletes in the world. They are: Adele and Leona Lewis.

Each will perform two songs and fired with a great duet, the baladón to officially become the Olympic anthem.

Adele, who is now one of the most famous singers in the world, joins this great sporting event, being next to another star of the musical greats such as Paul McCartney, the most important sporting event universal.

-As you see it's translated from Spanish to English via Google Translator

Nothing on here yet... weird :-?

Finally! After so many near misses I thought it was never going to get that week.

So to recap on 21's US chart run:

24 wks @ No 1
48 wks in the top 2
62 wks in the top 3
67 wks in the top 5

Here are the artist albums in US chart history which have ever spent longer;

at No 1:

37 - Thriller
31 - Calypso
31 - Rumours

in Top 2:

54 - Thriller

in Top 3:

63 - Thriller (21 will equal next week)

in Top 5:

71 - Thriller

I will let people draw their own conclusions as to where this places 21 among any albums ever released by artists in the US. 8-)

No 3 is ideal.

We don't want it getting another week @ No 2 (to hold the all-time record for weeks @ No 2) but we do want it to stay in the top 3 so it will equal Thriller for top 3 weeks.

When I say "we", I mean me. :P

I really wouldn't mind her having the record for most weeks at number 2. I know it isn't 1, but hey, you know how hard it is hit number 2 for almost 25 times?

You know. I bet if this album was released before the soundscan, I bet this album would be like 17-20X platinum. I mean no album before the soundscan, sold more than 5 million a year. The bodyguard was the first one. And albums back then, I think they are overcertified. Even if you add club sales, a lot of albums are still overcertified.
