That's kinda the point. I doubt they'd have been so flippant about the subject-matter had they known what they were singing about.
However, that didn't stop it become almost as big a hit as the original in the UK - and Ireland rewarded this even more, with a Top 10 position - the highest of any country where it was released, and we, of all people, should have known better. But hey, I still
love this manic cover version. On paper, it just shouldn't work - but strangely, it does.
The
UK/Irish airplay remix (Eternal Airplay Mix - thus named for the "Eternal" imprint of Warner Bros Records, home of Gina G. and The Outhere Brothers - on which label it was released in the UK/Ireland), however was far more compelling than the versions released in other countries. I don't think it even made the top 10 at home in Italy.
What's amazing is that - in that video which shows the Australian single release - they manage to give not a single credit to the original Cranberries release!!!
