Zombie - The Cranberries

The title says it all...what do you have to say about this song?

For me it's "just" one of the best songs from the 90's...and Cranberries greatest masterpiece.

That heavy guitar riff makes the song...it's completly different from everything they ever released as a single...their biggest single...and first single from their best selling album: No Need To Argue.

They have more hits...but this song is better then all their other singles together IMO!

Your turn now

I absolutely hate this song  I just find it sooo irritating and overrated.

Linger
Promises
Animal Instincts

All miles better for me. Especially Promises.

A really great song in post-grunge era.

The song was different from "Everybody else..." stuff and that makes it more even surprising.

One of the best songs from the 90´s decade.

One of my favourite songs released in the 90s and the only song by The Cranberries I actually listen to.

While I don't hate Zombie, I think it's the least good song on No Need to Argue, I tend to skip it when it comes on.

I actually probably far prefer this version of Zombie. A song inspired by two kids being blown to bits in the Warrington IRA bombing? Yeah, let's dance it up and shoot the video at a car-wash.

While it is the Cranberries' joint biggest hit in Ireland (along with Linger, it peaked at #3) I was surprised at how well it did across Europe.

That's kinda the point. I doubt they'd have been so flippant about the subject-matter had they known what they were singing about.

However, that didn't stop it become almost as big a hit as the original in the UK - and Ireland rewarded this even more, with a Top 10 position - the highest of any country where it was released, and we, of all people, should have known better. But hey, I still love this manic cover version. On paper, it just shouldn't work - but strangely, it does.

The UK/Irish airplay remix (Eternal Airplay Mix - thus named for the "Eternal" imprint of Warner Bros Records, home of Gina G. and The Outhere Brothers - on which label it was released in the UK/Ireland), however was far more compelling than the versions released in other countries. I don't think it even made the top 10 at home in Italy.

What's amazing is that - in that video which shows the Australian single release - they manage to give not a single credit to the original Cranberries release!!!

Dolores who???

I love this song, but then again I love the 99% of their stuff, I think they're brilliant and Dolores' voice is my favourite singing voice ever.

I remember being about 8 when the song came out. Both the video and her voice used to freak me out, especially the bit towards the end where all the kids are holding hands forming a circle around Dolores and they start screaming.

It's sad to think the 90s were so full of amazing classics and hardly any song seems to become a proper classic these days... That might be just my opinion though.

i don't think it's just your opinion...i think songs nowadays are just disposable crap that no one will care for future decades or generations...i can't see 95% of Rihanna's singles being remembered in about 20 years, can you? And she's the woman with more hits in the last few years...

Zombie was a risky single choice for The Cranberries...when compared to all their other singles...and it payed of...no one takes risks anymore, everything sound the same nowadays on radios...it's depressing actually :-?
