"In My Mind" is lacking a music video, which is what is hindering its potential success on the singles chart.

Am not so sure, several singles have gone Top 10 in the past year or so without the help of a music video (Titanium, Whistle, Wild Ones, Starships, etc.)

In this case though, they still help. Those are established names anyway.

A lack of video always hurts a song, no doubt. Any song that does well without a video (or even airplay) is more to its credit.

Top 50 singles without videos atm (exc. Voice tracks):

#27. T-Pain // Turn All The Lights On
#30. Ivan Gough & Feenixpawl // In My Mind
#33. Nicki Minaj // Pound The Alarm
#36. Jason Derulo // Undefeated

I have little doubt these would all be higher if they had videos already.

Nicki is already Top 10 without a video though. I'm really not sure videos make a such a huge difference. Perhaps for non-estabished acts as Hector said but for famous names, I'm really not sure.

Just look at Last Friday Night. It peaked on iTunes a few weeks before the video premiered. I remember that the Born This Way video also had close to no impact.

In my opinion, videos can help the song to peak a few places higher but the impact takes place in the short term. Bar a few exceptions, airplay is still the most important factor in a song's success.
