People who bring up such crap really do irritate me. Who says you have to listen to mainstream music anyway? Music is a huge, global organisation. If you think music in the mainstream is 'dull', take a look around and go for music that isn't. It's not exactly hard.

^this!

now since there ARE so many artists and genres out there, you can find music that moves YOU specifically. It's all about the music, not the image i agree, but honestly i'm kind of glad that there is so much variety and not about what artist is the hit of the week.

If their music doesn't move me emotionally (whether to dance, make me feel inspired, or bring a chill to my spine) i'm not going to listen to it.

i actually pity the people back in the day when there were only a few artists that could ONLY listen to and that's why they're famous because they were the first "superstar" artists, but the question is...did they truly move people. For Example, i couldn't live back when the Beatles were big, i just don't like their music. And at the same token, there are ALOT of artists i like that aren't big and they have awesome music and move me, but since they're not on the mainstream radio and i show them to my friends they're not interested in them....until they hit the radio...

Yep I may be old fashioned but sheen is now winning out to content - music has had its day - there will never be another Beatles, Abba, Bee Gees, Smiths, Queen, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac

Rest assured there will be the battle of the blands - another Westlife, Take That, Boyzone, Blue etc.. All catalogue boy bands = no real musical identity and no real direction - dull music, dull lives - come back punk and new romantics - all is forgiven :(

No, sales are low because people are lazy (with CD purchases). There is some incredible music out there, you've just got to look for it unfortunately.

I thank god for the invention of the internet, without it I'd be listening to such dross day in and day out! I simply would have never heard of many of my faves in this commercial world. :x

I agree. The internet makes it so much easier to expand your musical horizons beyond what is in the mainstream. I don't know if I'd even like any modern music if I had to rely on VH1/MTV and radio.

excuse me, but Take That transformed from what you described to one of the best live acts of our time. In my opinion, their Progress Tour was brilliant beyond compare. I'm not commenting on the music because that is a subjective matter of opinion.

how wrong can you be - Take That can perform - the live show has soo many extras it has to be a spectacle - but really the sound track is dull dull dull. Like a madonna LP it can't fail the cast of thousands detracts from whats really happening. Mediocre sound track to dull blokes strutting their stuff.

Take that are alos not as global as you may think - moderate success in some countries - only really big sales here in the UK and I do acknowledge that the sales are big - BUT - the UK has long since given up the ghost to care about quality over substance and that is why the aforementioned groups are famous. Shame

This man hates madonna :D. But she is true queen of pop and have you ever heard like a prayer and ray of light. They are masterpieces ;). I am really shocked you have not commented on britney :D, because prople here thinks she can't sing, but still the best selling female artist of the century so far ;).
And adele has proved that good music can sell albums :).
