Just goes to show how much U.S. music taste has improved.. Few years back songs like "Lollipop" by Lil Wayne were topping the charts.

Was checking Itunes chart first time in ages and was wondering what is she doing there.Then I realized this song is almost 2 years old. :lol:

Talk about an unexpected success.

Did she perform this song anywhere? Who decided to give it a chance in the US?

I know the song cause it's used by BBC in their promos for Olympics. Maybe this is why it's succeeding now?

US doesn't get BBC and i doubt they use the same promos. It's been climbing the chart for months very slowly so it's not a case of one performance or one person giving it a chance. It's months of hard slog and radio catching on bit by bit.

It doesn't want to take off... I don't get it, I mean the single is in the sales top 10

- and at the same time Lights falls 35 positions!

As "Lights" brightens the top 10, the song grants Goulding a Hot 100 record.

The song rises 12-6 in its 27th week on the Hot 100, completing the longest ascent to the region in the chart's 54-year history for a song by a female that was not aided by crossover airplay from country to pop radio. It's the 13th-longest journey to the top 10 overall and the longest by any song since Shinedown**'s "Second Chance" also took 27 weeks to the tier in 2008-09.
