Do they apply some math to the SoundScan figures?bigred wrote::lol: I check out a site called greasy lake from time to time that posts beatles sales figures, and for the Yellow Sub Songtrack, they show: Yellow Submarine Songtrack...Gold 920,000,868k-SScanOct2010.

Yeah, he basically takes Kronemyer figures which go up to 1985,adds Soundscan figures from 1991 to today, and then I believe he guestimates what a album sold from 1986-1991,and totals them all up.He's probably pretty acurate (although I feel a little low for Pepper and Abbey Road).blackbird wrote:Thanks!bigred wrote:Here you go:blackbird wrote:Do they apply some math to the SoundScan figures?bigred wrote::lol: I check out a site called greasy lake from time to time that posts beatles sales figures, and for the Yellow Sub Songtrack, they show: Yellow Submarine Songtrack...Gold 920,000,868k-SScanOct2010.

At first sight the SoundScan figures listed are compatible with the ones we use here (with the known exception of YSS).
Was the 867,853 figure for re-mastered Yellow Submarine and not the Songtrack version?Obviously the total reported here for October 2010 with 867,853 copies sold were wrong.
The figure 818,735 for week 15 in 2009 seems to fit together with the actual total.
No, SoundScan figure for the Yellow Submarine album was 528,519 for week 46/2009.brian05 wrote:Was the 867,853 figure for re-mastered Yellow Submarine and not the Songtrack version?Obviously the total reported here for October 2010 with 867,853 copies sold were wrong.

Along with the 50th anniversary Capitol Records should sit down and reexamine not only The Beatles' album certifications but also the single certifications - as it was done with the Elvis sales.bigred wrote::lol: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid= ... d&_sacat=0
Heres 339 IWTHYH related items alone on ebay U.S.
Unfortunately, singles in the U.S.could not be certified beyond "million seller status" until 1968.
I don't know, thats actually asking Capitol Records to put out some effort.Seriously,I would love to see each single get evaluated sales wise,in particular the pre 1968 titles.A lot of their later singles ARE certified as 2 million sellers.blackbird wrote:Along with the 50th anniversary Capitol Records should sit down and reexamine not only The Beatles' album certifications but also the single certifications - as it was done with the Elvis sales.bigred wrote::lol: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid= ... d&_sacat=0

I gave a scan of that advert a year or so ago. Remember that Topicel said approaching 4m could mean it's sales were 3.4m. Then he used returns to bring it down to 3m.bigred wrote:Acording to the 5/23/64 edition of Billboard, sales were fast approaching 4 million. Nearly 5 million by September 1968? You Betcha

Things are looking up today, despite the shaky Cypriot economy:stevieb wrote:Wow, what a great website!brian05 wrote:Yellow Sub is indeed at no. 18 on US.
I use this web site,

It gives the top 100 albums and the top 1022 tracks, and is regularly updated.
Macca did 5 songs at the concert.
Magical mystery tour

The final part of the concert had 17m viewers on BBC.
Not looking too good in Cyprus though.
And disposable income was generally less than it is today, and you had to leave your house to go and purchase music, not press a few buttons on a computer.brian05 wrote:Do you know that a Beatles LP selling at 32 shillings in 1963 is now worth £26.93 in 2012 due to inflation.
So all Beatles sales from 1963 should be increased by a factor of 16. Puts Adeles' sales in perspective!
And don't forget the increase in the record buying market in the UK since 1963.
And a single costing 6/8 in 1963 is now worth £5.61 compared to today's downloads at 59p, 79p and 99p.
