Green Day - ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, and ¡Tré! [3 albums]

First its not a Rock Opera according to their interview with Rolling Stone Magazine titled: "Green Day Ditch Rock Operas for Raw Punk LPs"

All three albums have been recorded.

Concept according to Billie:

The first one is power pop. The second is more garage-y, Nuggets-type rock. And the third - is supposed to be epic.

In the first album, you're getting in the mood to party. On ¡Dos!, you're at the party, and on the third album, you're cleaning up the mess.

Producer Rob Cavallo says "We wanted to go back to the simplicity of Dookie."

Apparently the wrote over 70 songs and the album(s) will be a total of 36 songs (so 12 songs on each album)

So hopefully this means they aren't just cramming everything they wrote into 3 albums and they are really only using the best of the best.

Songs that will be on Tre:
"Brutal Love"
"Forgotten"

I'm really liking the sound of this.

Good to hear they're making these albums a bit more playful (even though I loved the last 2 albums).

I haven't pre-ordered a physical album in a VERY long time but Uno! Dos! and Tre! will all receive the pre-order treatment

I'd love to pre-order them to get in on the hype, but nothing beats walking into a store on the day of release and buying a copy. But that's just me :D

A live version of Oh Love

I'm gonna wait until I hear the studio version before I judge but it sounds pretty good.

from Billboard Biz:

Exclusive: Green Day Documentaries To Coincide With New Album Trilogy

Two documentaries on Green Day are expected to complement the release of three albums between late September and the middle of January.
Filmmakers Tim Lynch, a producer of "Green Day: Bullet in a Bible," and Tim Wheeler, a co-producer and editor of "The White Stripes Under Great White Northern Lights," are creating a documentary on the making of the three albums, "¡Uno!," "¡Dos!" and "¡Tre!" A second documentary is being created from vintage footage from their pre-"Dookie" days.

Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong tells Billboard.biz that "the two Tims" have shot the band performing in clubs, rehearsing and recording over the last year and a half.

"It's not going to be the sitting down, head shot of me going 'we started out blah blah blah,'" Armstrong says. "We wanted to get into lifestyles of rock'n'roll and playing rock n roll and letting the story kind of tell itself rather than create revisionist (history)."

The filmmakers will be filming the band as they rehearse before heading to Japan and Europe for a few festival dates. Executives at Green Day's label, Warner Bros. Records, hope the making-of film will be ready by early next year to possibly premiere at the Sundance Film Festival.

Green Day is also reuniting with director Sam Bayer who shot several of the band's videos, among them "Jesus of Suburbia." The band has already issued a couple of trailers for the albums that feature instrumental versions of two of the albums' tracks.

The first Green Day single from the three albums, "Oh Love," will be released July 16; "¡Uno!" comes out Sept. 25.

I think 3 albums worth of Green Day with a few months of each other is overkill. Don't get me wrong, there was some great stuff on Dookie and American Idiot but I can't see them bringing out anything like that again.

Same here too, thats what i think since 21st cent era their fanbase or sales have been on decline and why go on and put out 3 more albums in a short time? unless theyre singles are HUGE hits.. theyre taking a huge risk here since rock is not much on sales right now.

Their fanbase hasn't been on decline since 21st Century Breakdown. If you look at their sales history, they've had ups and downs. 21st Century was a success for them - it sold over a million in the US and 4 million worldwide. Which is a pretty stellar effort for a band that has been going since the 80s.

As it stands, Dookie and American Idiot are their highest selling albums. But both of them were big milestones for them, likely because they represented a new direction for the band. And it sounds like they're doing the same thing here.

Oh Love debuted at number 1 on the Us rock charts (only 3 songs have done this). Green Day are more of an album selling band anyway (with the exception of American Idiot).

Interested to see how well they will do releasing 3 albums in such a short time frame. A million for each would be pushing it, I think.

As for Uno, I haven't listened to the leak. Waiting to get my copy on Saturday night. Haven't been this excited for an album in years. Expectations are high :D

You will be ecstatic. This is almost up there with American Idiot in terms of quality. :D

It's, in a way, if American Idiot was a person, this album is a more mature adult version. It's amazing.

I'm not overly impressed with the album as of yet. Maybe it needs a few listens but aside from 'Kill The DJ' and 'Oh Love' all the songs sound the same. I guess the only other track that has grabbed my attention is 'Sweet 16' but even parts of that song sound like a previous track they've recorded (Can't remember which one but there is definitly a similarity between this song and a 'American Idiot' '21st Centuary' track.

Ah can't wait :D Their last two albums are actually two of my favourite albums of all time. Generally I find I'm lucky to like 2 or 3 songs on an album, but I loved almost all the tracks on both of them.

Good to hear this is living up to expectations!

Green Day delivered with this album! I don't think it's better than American Idiot, but it's really good. Though it kinda feels weird that we're getting another album in November since I probably haven't overplayed ¡Uno! by that time and I don't want to saturate myself with their music.

Yeah it's definitely no American Idiot or 21st Century Breakdown, but I wasn't expecting it to be and it's still a great album! There's very few bands that can deliver this kind of quality material this far into their career.

Favourites on first listen are Stay the Night, Kill the DJ and Carpe Diem.

So excited for Dos and Tre. It's awesome how each album will be of a different sound.
