Eras that you would have liked to have lived fully?

And also Celine Dion's FALLING INTO YOU when she was the #1 female in the planet! !!!

From April 1996 through until mid 1999 and the culmination of Lets Talk About Love, Celine was the biggest star on the planet.

I would love to have been old enough then, to have fully experienced just how big she was.

Similarly, I would love to have experienced a Roy Orbison era.

I vaguely remember Thriller as a little kid... but I was too young, I wish I had been older to fully enjoy and live through it. I was just old enough to remember "Bad". Hell, make me a feel years older to remember Off The Wall as well.

I also would've loved to have been older to experience Prince's heyday. Not necessarily Purple Rain which belonged to the entire world, but the 1980-1983 period where he was this really cool cult artist who was making his way up the pop charts but not yet the major name he'd end up becoming. He came here several times in the early 80s and I could just imagine seeing him live during those Dirty Mind and Controversy days when his act was far more raw and shocking.

And of course I would've loved to have lived through the 70s, especially with Bowie, and of course Queen, Fleetwood Mac, ABBA, Blondie and the likes during their biggest periods.

So true. It was a magical era to live through. Even though 1984-1987 was her biggest era as a seller, 1989-1991 was such an iconic era for her and even if her chart positions and sales weren't as high as they were during True Blue, she was still the most talked about person in the world. Everything she did was iconic during those years.

Michael Jackson - Thriller - probably the most successful era in music history. It would have been surreal to be a part of this cultural history.

Michael Jackson - Bad - this was probably just as exciting - more singles, more videos and a huge, worldwide tour.

Michael Jackson - Dangerous - I can remember small parts of this era, mainly seeing the music videos on TV all the time. It would have been good to remember more than that though, especially all the drama surrounding the allegations.

Janet Jackson - Control - Janet's breakthrough would have been amazing to witness (from a US point of view).

Janet Jackson - Rhythm Nation 1814 - Again, I'd have liked to have experienced this from the US, not the UK. She was untouchable at this point and the biggest star in the country. 7 top 5 singles!

Janet Jackson - janet. - her commercial peak worldwide. Great videos, great tour, great singles and great success.

Madonna - Like a Virgin & True Blue - this was when she was the biggest star on the planet and everything she did seemed to be newsworthy. But she was also releasing fantastic pop songs, so would have been fun to experience.

Madonna - Like a Prayer - I seriously wish I was old enough to experience the controversy over the LAP video.

Madonna - Erotica - this is the Madonna era I wish I experienced the most. It would have been so interesting to have witnessed all the controversy surrounding this entire era, including the Sex book and 'Body of Evidence'. The worldwide backlash would have been shocking too.

I agree. I never really thought of it as a major "era" outside of hit singles. I'd say Beyonce and Britney had bigger "eras" than her in the 00s

I was 8-10 and fully remember enjoying MJ, Madonna, Whtiney, Janet and some other eras from that period. But I guess it matters how much into music you are at that age.

Alive and very conscious of all the eras mentioned here sans Beatlemania in 1964.

Nothing comes close to Thriller in 1983 in my lifetime. He could have run for President in 1984 and won.

While Bodyguard was a huge era in Whitney domination, it was also a pretty boring era because she was pregnant/a new mom during that era so she barely was able to really promote and take charge of the era. In terms of pure eras, I think "Whitney" in 87-88 was the era where Whitney-mania was everywhere. She toured extensively, did ads for Diet Coke, appeared on pretty much every awards show known to man, and of course her songs went #1 like clockwork. Now Bodyguard sold more albums, but I think "Whitney" was the closest she had to your classic Michael/Madonna style era.

Well sadly for me because I don't listen or get involved much with chart music I don't really get swooped up in "eras" now like I did when I was a kid. I like to listen to music from the 60's instead nowadays!
