"No, I don't have Michael Jackson's Bad25 box yet, but what I do have is the "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" CD single they rereleased this week to hype the box. So I'm assuming this master is what they're using for the Bad25 box.

The waveforms don't look terrible. I compared the original 1st CD pressing from 1987 (yes, with the spoken word intro in tact), with the new 2012 release on the bottom:

But the sound. The sound is terrible. Maybe I just got a defect CD, but take a listen to this A/B comparison I did. It's just a few seconds of first the original 1987 CD (adjusted +2.8db so levels would be similar), and then a few seconds of the SAME passage from the 2012 CD:

http://soundcloud.com/thecauldenroad...t-stop-ab-test

The 2012 CD has some weird warbling sound (listen with headphones). I don't know if the tape has deteriorated that badly. Or if the compressor and limiter are adding some weird artifacts. But I pray it's just a bad CD, and not a problem with the entire box/album."
hi there, can you please post the comparison again?

While that sounds good it's worthless.
Nobody cares about the physical CD singles sales chart anymore. It's just the Estate trying to gain some Kudos for a single that won't be a success on the main charts.

It's as successful as it possibly could be!
The biggest chart it can impact on is the physical sales chart and on this chart, if it reaches number 1, you can't expect for any better.

Well I can't argue with that but it still seems like an insignificant achievement to me. :D

On the Amazon uk CD singles chart the single is shown as out of stock and it was only released today. Sounds like there's a supply issue.

Nobody's Martyr: A GQ&A with Spike Lee

Image

Over the past few years, Spike Lee joints have been a rarity—a documentary here, an HBO special there. But the remaining half of 2012 promises to make this year one of Spike's best. Between work on this August's upcoming drama, Red Hook Summer, a documentary of Michael Jackson's Bad album, and directing Mike Tyson's one-man Broadway play (yes, you read that correctly), the Brooklyn native has been pretty damn busy. We interrupted his intense schedule to get the double-truth from one of the most intrepid filmmakers of all time.

(...)

GQ: Is Spike Lee a martyr?
Spike Lee: A martyr?

GQ: A martyr.
Spike Lee: For whom?

GQ: For the people you make films for. There seems to be a lot of self-sacrifice behind your films.
Spike Lee:. Here's the thing, though: I got my money back already from Red Hook Summer, and then some. All before the film has even opened. Now, there have been a lot of films I was going to do that never happened for whatever reason. The interim between Miracle at St. Anna and Red Hook Summer is like four or five years. I was going to do the biography of James Brown, and Brooklyn loves Michael Jackson...

GQ: You're working on a MJ doc now though, right?
Spike Lee: What I'm doing now is a documentary on the 25th anniversary of Michael Jackson's Bad album. I'm also doing another documentary on Brazil called Go Brazil Go. I'm going to be directing Mike Tyson on Broadway later, it's a one man show. And then we got, God willing, Oldboy [an American remake of the popular 2003 South Korean manga film of the same name] coming up in the fall...

(...)

GQ: Details magazine just labeled Adam Levine from Maroon 5 the "new king of pop" on their cover.
Spike Lee: The king of pop?

GQ: The new king of pop.
Spike Lee: Look, I have nothing personal against my man [Adam Levine] and I don't think that he called Details up to tell him to do that, but a lot of the time magazines will get you in trouble with titles like that. I remember M. Night Shyamalan was on the cover of Newsweek and it said he was the next Spielberg. Now I'm not trying to be disrespectful to M. Night, he didn't tell Newsweek to do that. When people see that cover they're going to be like, alright, this movie better be good. Just look at Spielberg's filmography...Signs was no Close Encounter.

GQ: Who would you say is the closest to what Mike [Jackson] was?
Spike Lee: That's a very interesting question. I don't think it's anybody, I mean there are some people who could dance, look at Chris Brown—the way he dances. Usher...

GQ: Maybe a younger sensation, like Justin Bieber?
Spike Lee: Justin Bieber is the new Michael Jackson? Interesting thing is that we interviewed Justin Bieber for this documentary, and you know he idolizes Michael. And I love Kanye and Jay and everybody else, but there's only one Michael Jackson. So if there's only one Michael Jackson, how can anybody be the new king of pop?

Awesome news 8-)

Billboard wrote:Lastly, we have one more chart tidbit about a tally we normally don't write about. On the Hot Singles Sales chart -- which ranks the best-selling physically-released singles of the week -- Michael Jackson's "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" debuts at No. 1 with 5,000 copies. Its CD single was released last week exclusively at Walmart as part of the promotions leading up to the 25th anniversary reissue of Jackson's 1987 "Bad" album. "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" is a duet with Siedah Garrett and was the first single from "Bad."

"I Just Can't Stop Loving You" gives Jackson his first No. 1 on a Billboard singles sales chart since 2003, when "One More Chance" spent three weeks atop the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles Sales chart.

Korea has no physical singles market. Literally, NO artists release CD singles anymore. All physical singles by foreign artists (mostly Japanese) that are released there are treated as maxi-singles, which means charting on the albums chart.

MICHAEL JACKSON'S BAD 25 ANNIVERSARY DELUXE EDITION ALREADY HAS ITS FIRST #1 SINGLE

"I Just Can't Stop Loving You" / "Don't Be Messin' 'Round (demo)" CD Single Debuts at #1 on the Billboard Hot Singles Sales Chart

New York, NY - On June 5, the original first single from Michael Jackson's landmark album BAD, "I Just Can't Stop Loving You," was re-released as a CD Single with a never-before released bonus track called "Don't Be Messin' 'Round (demo)." In its first week this Wal-Mart exclusive CD single was scooped up by fans, giving Michael a #1 debut on the Billboard Hot Singles Sales chart in a top five that includes Carly Rae Jepsen, Calvin Harris, Justin Bieber and Coldplay/Rihanna.

"I Just Can't Stop Loving You" was written and composed by Michael Jackson and performed as a duet with Siedah Garrett. The song became the first of five consecutive number-one Billboard Hot 100 hits from Jackson's BAD album. It also reached number one on the Billboard R&B and adult contemporary charts. "Don't Be Messin' Around" is a previously unreleased demo from the singer's vaults which was recorded during the BAD sessions.

On September 18th, the Estate of Michael Jackson along with Epic/Legacy Recordings will release BAD 25, which includes three CDs, two collectible booklets, and features the first-ever authorized DVD release of a concert from the record breaking BAD tour, the concert at Wembley Stadium on July 16, 1988 attended by Princess Diana, Prince Charles and a sold-out crowd of 72,000 fans.

More details on this and other exciting projects relating to BAD's 25th anniversary will be announced soon. Get updated first by signing up for the official MJ Newsletter.

Of course my local Walmart didn't have a single copy when I tried to buy it. I'll try a few more Walmarts this weekend but makes you wonder what sales could be like if Walmart actually stocked its Walmart exclusive release. Also haven't seen the MJ Pepsi cans anywere at all - real effective promo for Bad 25.

We are aware that fans in the U.S. have been having some difficulty locating the special edition Bad 25 Pepsi Cans. Pepsi would like you to know that Wal-mart is the retailer that has the most widespread distribution in the U.S., but as retailers vary by market, distribution may be uneven.

Pepsi invites you to call their consumer hotline for more information as the staff is equipped with information about the Pepsi cans. The hotline number is: 1-800-433-2652

More unofficial information about the doc:

Code: Select all
Man In The Mirror devant lui…
Stay tuned…

One big surprise of this campaign will be Bad25 documentary directed by Spike Lee ... And here's why:

A montage of 20 minutes was recently sent to TV stations a few weeks ago as a teaser of the full length version (which will be 90 minutes in full).

These first images used to learn more about the content of this film. If the final product is the same level, then we will deal with a serious project and led by a master hand. Spike Lee, backed by Sony Music and Michael Jackson Estate, called the main actors of the time of Bad. Thus, Glen Ballard and Greg Phillinganes recount the birth of Man In The Mirror. Siedah Garrett tells of course his story and also the record of I Just Can not Stop Loving You. But in addition to these cults employees, other stakeholders, sometimes less known to the public, also share their memories: Walter Yetnikoff, former CEO of CBS Records, and Larry Stessel, head of promotion at Epic at the time. In one sequence, Yetnikoff refers to the creation of the artwork. Enthusiasts will appreciate those stories sharpest drummers John Robinson and Ollie E. Brown.

Like the documentary "Classic Albums" made in the 90s, Lee seems interested in the creation of each song and also focuses on the corresponding Short film. These stories are brilliantly illustrated with rare footage from personal archives of Michael Jackson. These allow you to discover how the singer falls from the ceiling in the legendary Bad clip. At another point, he repeats one of his dialogues with the young Wesley Snipes. Jim Blashfield unveils the creation of short film Leave Me Alone (culminating in a Grammy Award). Again the rushes of the time show how the final scene where the King of Pop comes alive and pulls of this imaginary island has been turned. Jackson is also known for filming his studio recording sessions. Some of these rare moments are part of the assembly, including one where Michael Jackson goes on behind the camera while Sieddah Garrett is rehearsing Man In The Mirror before him ...

To help tell the story within the story, Lee also thought of calling some of the new generation artists like Kanye West, Justin Bieber and Chris Brown. This choice can highlight any aspect of the trans-generational work of Jackson.
