Hey you guys. New to this thread and I read the last few pages but couldn't find info on Essential Mariah Carey and its performance in the US. Anyone have data on it? I'm a Mariah and Madonna fan (I know, hard to find ) Thanks in advance!!

that release never made the BB200.. it probably sold 4,000/5k copies to date.

Mariah only had 2 major GH collections:

#1's: 5 million and
GH: 1,3 million (therefore eligible for 2x platinum)
Ballads: 150k

#1s will have shipped considerably more than 5 million flat. It sold a staggering 1 million via BMG music club and Mariah wasn't even a house artist there. Columbia house sales will be no less than that.

I just found out that Apple finally opened its iTunes store in the Philippines and in 11 other Asian countries too. This could be good for Mimi as she's pretty known in Asia.

Mariah is really the artist that more earn money per album sold? I found some sources that says :

Mariah - $2.50 per album sold

Celine/Madonna - 2.30

Whitney- 2.00

Britney Spears - 0.90



How about Shania, Gaga, or janet, Alanis etc?

The percentage that Celine takes now, is bigger than it was during the 90's.

Its the prestige that increases the royalty - its a big deal for a songwriter to be able to write for a legend such as Madonna or Celine. And that's why they're willing to take such a cut.

Nowadays, there really is a limit in terms of royalty though - I'd be interested in knowing how much Adele took home prior to 21's release per album, and how much she takes home after. Obviously, the sales will have significantly increased her stock, and coupled with her being the chief songwriter - it wouldn't surprise me if come her next release, she's commanding the highest royalty rate in the business.

maybe Madonna before Maverick she earned like $2.30 per album or maybe less, but since Maverick 4 sure she improved , and 4 sure since 2007, she earn nearly $3 per album sold or maybe more ,remember she has the biggest female deal in music history-Live nation , also she is the Forbes Queen...

I highly doubt Madonna is making $3 per album - that would mean that she's taking home roughly 40% of every single album [since we're speaking of the dealer price here, and most labels will sell an album for at least $6 for chart qualification purposes, but probably not more than $8-8.50 - please do correct me if I'm wrong]; Michael Jackson in his prime probably wasn't bringing that much home.

Madonna is probably still taking home between $2-$2.50 per album; her Live Nation deal is 99% about the touring gross.

+1. Obviously, as Sony CEO, Mottola has obligations to fullfill. No question discovering and developing the career of Mariah Carey is the biggest achievement in his career. That´s why Sony dumped him right after Mariah left the company.

live nation deal with Magde is about tours -albums , for sure she improved since 2007 , and i say almost $3 o maybe more , but 4 sure she is above Mariah and Celine , its all about a music deal , Sheryl crow write , sing , produce almost the 100% of her material , and i guess she make food for her team , and she neverrrrrr earn $2.50 per album

Alek, it isn't impossible - as I've already said, these deals are not negotiated based primarily on sales or what your next tour will gross [that is a separate issue entirely].

Prestige is a big factor also. I HIGHLY doubt that Madonna - or Celine - are pocketing more than Mariah, per album.

For non-songwriters, Mariah and Celine do as well as anybody else, but that's probably it ends.

you are wrong , you can t explain it , its all about a music deal , for sure music deals is about how profitable is the artist , for that mariah got her music deal with Virgin, because she did so well before 2001 , as well Magde was a champion to Warner...IF Madonna has the biggest Female music deal , 4 sure she earn more money per album sold ..

the diference between madonna s deal with live nation and mariahs with Universal is huge, for that , its impossible that mariah earn more money than Madonna per album..Madonna is a songwriter and Producer too
