BoA - Only One (album)

One of the original ‘queens of K-Pop’, BoA has announced that she will be making her long-overdue comeback to the music industry on July 25th with her seventh full album, “Only One“!

Her first new release since 2010?s “Hurricane Venus“, the new album consists of a melange of different styles and concepts. Also, it has been revealed that BoA herself composed and wrote the title track, “Only One”, raising the stakes for her comeback even higher amid anticipation.

As a prelude to her comeback, the full digital release for the title track will take place on the 22nd on various online music portals such as iTunes, Genie, and MelOn.

Very disappointed with this, it's far too short, 7 songs & 2 of the songs are under 2mins & a half long..

The music is not that great, people are saying it sounds like old BoA which is not that good because it sounds dated.

Idk how she can go from the flaw free, crazy Hurricane Venus to this,

anyway... I like the title song, Not Over U & The Top. The rest are so boring, & not because they are ballads, they are just so dull...

I'm in two minds about this.

Firstly - what has irked me is the tracklist. 7 songs? 1 song ("One Dream") was released months ago too. :-?

This is so unlike SM. And adding the two instrumentals on the end is SOOOO Un-SM, they never do that! So I'm a bit pissed about that.

Despite the shortness of the album, I actually think the first six tracks are fantastic. I was in a complete state of shock when I first heard the album - it was absolutely nothing what I expected. It is absolutely nothing like "Hurricane Venus" and that totally shocked me - so I was definately dumbfounded on the first listen. But the more I listened to it, the more I realised it's such an amazing album, alebit too short. It definately reminded me of her Japanese material - which makes me think that these songs will come out in Japan very soon.

Aside from the complete 180 in the style of the music and the shortness, I think it's a fantastic album.

"The Shadow" is by far my favourite - Perfect song.

BoA shared some of the episodes she experienced while recording her new album.

During a recent press conference for the release of her 7th album ‘Only One‘, BoA laughed as she shared, “It was hard while I was recording because I kept thinking about J.Y. Park‘s comments about the ‘half air, half sound’ technique and how ‘you shouldn’t scrunch your face on high notes’ .”

“I think it’s important to make the music I want to create to be easily understood by the audience rather than doing music that the public wants. I think it’s our duty to make the music be understood. There are times when I go too far if I just do the music I want to do. I think it’s necessary to be somewhat considerate and find a middle ground.”

She explained, “For this album, I wanted to produce a relaxing album that even if I was the audience and didn’t like BoA’s choreography or performance, I’d still be able to listen to it and say it’s a good album. Electronic music is still popular, but I wanted to listen to relaxing music. There’s barely any electronic sound in this album, but I still paid attention to the whole album by adding a song for those who enjoy a music style like ‘Hurricane Venus‘.”

BoA commented on her growth into maturity, “People who are getting old don’t know how much they’re getting old. I think it’s only that our expectations rise as we feel and learn. But even then, I can feel that I’ve matured because I don’t feel uncomfortable about the lyrics I write and my way of expressing myself has changed.”

The title song of her 7th album “Only One“, a dreamy song with heavy hip hop beats and orchestration, is the first self-composed song BoA has released since her debut.
