Yeah, that's sad!

Hopefully Crazycool's survivor of this album will make justice to its quality and UKMix will start loving Brandy again.

I agree Afrodisiac was an amazing album.

What do you guys think her chances are for having some success with the new album?

I haven't really been keeping up, does she have any big promo lined up??

Promo? With that Put It Down song?

I don't know. And frankly, I find it hard to really care.

Brandy and her team better do something fast before everyone forgets about her...again.

I like Brandy, so I'll check out the album.

I don't like Put it Down, but I bet the album will still have some good songs.

Surely she and her team both know that they have to really step it up to get people interested in the record.

Brandy herself said it all went wrong for her when she lied about being married, all to protect her good girl image. And when her lie was rumbled, it put a lot of people off her.

I agree with this. I remember being really shocked when she suddenly announced she was married in 2002 and something wasn't quite right there. So I wasn't even too surprised when it was revealed that it was all a lie. It did make her look kinda stupid and it did ruin her image, so I can see why this may have contributed toward her flopping.

Also, she suddenly started presenting a sexy image (Afrodisiac video) which just looked so awkward. She was never about the sex appeal and I think that's why she was so popular. So that 'Afrodisiac' video just made me cringe, it was not her. And maybe other people thought the same - she was beginning to look desperate.

By 2008 and 'Human', it had been way too long for her to comeback and that's why it flopped. She needs to really bring it this time around and I guess that's why she's teamed up with Chris Brown.

Where did it all go wrong for NELLY?

Image

Nelly's first 3 albums were all certified multi-platinum in the US, with his debut going 9x platinum and his follow-up album propelling him to international success, giving him the huge hits 'Hot in Herre' and 'Dilemma'. But his 2 most recent albums both sold around 500,000 in the US and didn't really produce any long-standing hit singles. He is no longer the big seller he once was and is becoming more and more irrelevant, so where did it all go wrong?

With Nelly, I think he was just a fad and was never destined to be one of the all-time greats in the rap world.

He also became quite a novelty act I think (Ride Wit Me, Hot in Herre) and this led him to cater more and more towards radio and pop fans, maybe leaving his urban fans feeling ignored? Songs like 'My Place', 'Over and Over' and 'Tilt Ya Head Back' were definitely catering toward the mainstream crowd and I think this damaged his credibility. He sold out basically.

And because of these songs, he did have a big fanbase, but it seems like they always wanted these mushy ballads, so whenever he did return to his hip-hop roots, it wasn't well received (as evidenced by the sales of Sweat vs. Suit).

Then he waited 4 years to follow-up 'Sweat/Suit (which was a bad idea because he was hardly a huge name and these days, you can't afford to wait so long) and the single (Party People w/ Fergie) was atrocious, so his comeback failed. Now, it will be difficult for him to ever be as successful as he was because people have moved on. He was great from 2000-2003 though!

It's very difficult for many hip-hop and rap artists to have longevity, especially with those who go too mainstream. Many examples are the likes of Diddy, 50 Cent, Ja Rule, Snoop Dogg, they lose their core audience after their incredible career highs. In Nelly's case, his current work doesn't seem to be far and different from his older work (though his earlier work are still better than his recent ones).

In Germany, he was very popular in his Nellyville-era. Like in most cases the people still supported his follow up era although this one was already less successful (because there was no anthem like Hot In Herre or Dilemma).

Since then, the people weren't feeling his music anymore. The lack of promotion didn't help neither.
Just A Dream was some kind of a hit but it was nothing more and therefore wasn't really a good comeback song.

I'd say it's the lack of innovation in his music, he became another hip hop/R&B who does a party track every now and then, but there are already of them so why should the people buy Nelly's records?

Where did it all go wrong for LEONA LEWIS?

Image

(I barely recognise Leona in this pic - she looks hot, but honey, those lips are not cute!)

Leona Lewis is deemed the greatest UK talent show winner and is one of the most successful singers to come from a singing competition worldwide. Her debut album 'Spirit' broke all sorts of records and had huge sales in the UK (over 3,000,000), making it one of the best selling debut albums and one of the best selling female albums of all time. However, follow-up album 'Echo' underperformed and only sold a fraction of what 'Spirit' shifted. It failed to produce a 'Bleeding Love' style hit, instead only managing moderately successful singles. Her third album 'Glassheart' was due for release a year ago, but has since been delayed several time (which is never a good sign). A lot of people are hoping she can prove again why she is the best talent show winner, but for now...where did it go wrong for Leona?

- lack of innovation
- lack of personality
- Echo was a nice album but people were looking for more after Spirit's success
- mere choice of lead single
- other artists came that were as great or greater than Leona Lewis

she is the best at ballads so she should go back to Run and Better In Time style.

and this style now :-? the "edgy" and "extravagant" looks are not for her. she makes a clown out of herself trying to adopt an image that is not natural for her. sad she has turned into such a bandwagonner too. really sad, because she has the voice of an angel and now that beautiful voice seems to be going to waste.

Boring music, boring albums. She has some good songs but most are samey + her music has never evolved...

she has a good voice tho so hopefully with this next album she doesn't flop as bad!

I think part of it has to do with the follow-up to Spirit being so underwhelming, quality-wise.

Another reason is that she started to be viewed in the eyes of the public as a one-trick pony. I don't think she ever got around to releasing an uptempo single in the US.

Oh, and "Happy", as lovely a song as it may be, was a terrible, absolutely atrocious choice for lead single.

Lack of personality, very boring as a person
Lack of charisma, at stage she's just.... there, i enjoy more hearing her live vocal than seeing her live performance
Lack of that X Factor as a star, for sure

And she really killed her career in US by releasing Happy, seriousness, releasing a ballad as a lead single? But Happy is an amazing song though.
