Excellent subject irishguy28, i think Ireland can do really well again,at presant i think they are slight favourites to win the whole thing. You should beat England at home, infact you will beat England at home!!!!!!!!

Having said all that i think its the widest open Six Nations in years. If i owned my own bookies, these would be my odds for each country to win the event, win only.

Ireland 9/4
France 5/2
England 4/1
Scotland 12/1
Wales 16/1
Italy 100/1

Scotland greatly improved last season and may well do just that again, and about time after years in the doldrums.Ireland have always been my 2nd team in this event.
Will be very interesting to see the form of all the teams with the World Cup not a millions miles away.

Most 6 Nations throw up surprises...remember France v Ireland last year, where Ireland slept all through the first half, then stormed back and totally outplayed France in the second, though not enough to win? On recent form, you'd have to think Ireland would easily win over England...but we can take nothing for granted. I'll be a very happy man on the 24th of Feb if they pull it off. But whether it's celebrating or drowning sorrows, there are few better places to go pinting than Dublin's Fair City on a Saturday night.

When does this start?

I have tickets for the World Cup, did not bother getting for 6N (as i tried last year and the cheapest I could find were around £250).

Well England were too good for Scotland,Ireland showed true class, winning in Cardiff, when clearly below their best,a true sign of a great team.

France started well, getting the rust off their wheels.

Next week expect Ireland to edge out France with a battling win,and expect Scotland to hammer the Welsh with 5 tries!!!!!!!!!

England will run 6 tries past the hapless Italians!

I don't know Cidermaster, Ireland weren't playing anything like the level they were at in the Autumn Internationals, and there was little class on show as they grimly ground out that "victory". You'd have to say that any talk of them as favourites is no longer valid. Victory against France is looking a lot less likely after the weekend's games.

Great to see Jonny Wilkinson play almost a full game of rugby again after so long away. I think the only sure thing about next weekends games is that England will run up a cricket-score victory over Italy and the confidence gained from that, along with the possible faltering of the other nations, will mean the England juggernaut will be well and truly back on the road. Got to hand it to 'em, this is the perfect time to be staging a renaissance.

Can't claim to be a massive fan of egg chucking, but I do like the 6 nations, have to fancy Ireland(thats probably put the kiss of death on them)& wouldn't be too surprised if they won the World Cup later on, although The all Blacks have looked frighteningly good recently.

I agree Ireland are a real threat in the World Cup,but the All Blacks, the Brazil of Rugby Union have suprizingly only won the World Cup once, the very first one in 1987,so i think add 2007.

Bad luck Ireland, but that was terrible defending right at the end!

However my team Scotland got the vital win we needed,we deserved beating Wales, but with all our possession we could not score a try to save our lives, maybe we will put that right in our next 2 home matchs!!!!!

Well done to Scotland, though I didn't see that game.

France/Ireland was a great game, but it's never nice to surrender the lead like that in the dying moments of an otherwise enthralling contest

Well I certainly don't :P

Good luck, Irishguy - we've got Mr Wilkinson back this year ;-)

Oh, and sadly you will be right on France-Wales, that could be rather depressing viewing round these parts!

Wilkinson a major doubt after injury jinx strikes again

Jonny Wilkinson has little more than a 30% chance of featuring in England's Six Nations game against Ireland at Croke Park tomorrow after the most relentless injury jinx in sport struck again on the eve of the squad's departure for Dublin.
The World Cup-winning fly-half did not train with his team-mates yesterday and is having treatment on what is officially described as "a tight right hamstring". Brian Ashton, the head coach, is prepared to delay a final decision until tomorrow morning but Toby Flood is on standby to make his first full England start and Mike Catt has flown out as cover.

Meanwhile, the Irish squad are fit and rested. BOD, Stringer and O'Gara are all fit for tomorrow's game. Should be a cracker!!!

Lol...win, lose, or draw, you can be sure I'll be drunk tonight and again tomorrow...

I've not been to Dublin since last September so there's lots of socialising to be done...

Oh, by the by, the World Champions have not beaten Ireland since they claimed that title in late 2003.

Fantastic performance from Ireland, that was one of the best Rugby displays i have ever seen. They were fantastic, played as a true excellent team, played for each other and their country.

Ireland must really be looking forward to the World Cup,when at their best they are head and shoulders above anyone in Europe.

As for Scotland, the less said about that the better, but well done Italy, and the Italians deserve plenty of credit, expecially the way they got the win in the last 15 mins, mentally they were strong, this can only be good for the Six Nations, whipping boys never do competitions favours, and Italy are far from that.

France had the clear edge over Wales, but the Welsh had a go,and you really have to ask yourselves, how did France win in Ireland?? Well Ireland can get revenge in the World Cup.
