Here's other comment:

A: How did Backstreet Boys' "Black And Blue" do 15 million?

B: BSB are huge in Latin America. "Black & Blue" sold 7 million in the US, no? If we count Europe, Oceania, Asia, Latin America and Africa, I guess 15 million is accurate. They were really big by that time.

A: Did it do 7 million in America?! But, still. I mean it sold like 200k in the UK, and not too much in NZ/OZ. I know that ain't the whole world, but I thought it wasn't *that* much of a huge album?

seems very underestimated figures..

Just an example, #1's:

- 5 Platinum in USA (=5 Million of copies shipped)
- 1 Million in Brazil
- 2 Million in Europe
- 3.6 Million in Japan

Not counting other markets (Asia except Japan; Latinoamerica except Brazil, Australia, Canada, etc.), we got 11.6 million

The site says 7 Million Worldwide for "Unplugged" and nothing for any of her other albums after "Merry Christmas". Be honest.

1.25 in Brasil... so, 11.85 million in just 3 countries + Europe! In Asia the album was just as huge as in Japan, spending MONTHS at #1 in many countries! that's why I say 17.5M shipment worldwide is very possible, even tough shipment use to be much bigger than SALES

I also think #1's should be higher than the official one, remember Mariah held a concert in Shanghai in China, to held a concert it should be sold a certain amount of CD to see how popular she was, so that mean there's market in China that the official sales excluded. Maybe because they were pirate copies or bootlegs?? It's usual that pirate copies sell more than the official copies. I remember one article said sold 5 million pirate copies of CD, don't remember which one.

I think thers's no change at all in sales figures, as it already freezed down. Each week selling thousands copies mean there's some over-shipment copies in the store, not directly from the label, so could not be said that sales increaing in her catalogs in label, it just increasing/cleaning her catalogs in the stores. Obviously, RIAA certifications always higher than Soundscan sales, RIAA - record label is the first step to sell to the store, and Soundscan - store is the second step to sell to public/customers or say over the counter.

Still:
Whitney Houston - 21 million
Whitney - 17 million
I'm Your Baby Tonight - 8 million
The Bodyguard - 37 million
Waiting To Exhael -10 million
The Preacher's Wife - 5 million
My Love Is Your Love - 9 million
The Greatest Hits - 6 million
Just Whitney - 2 million
One Wish - 0.5 million

Explanation:
When released "I'm Your Baby Tonight", label advertised Whitney had sold combined 30 million internationally of her first 2 album, at that time, "WH" - 9 million & "W" - 6 million together 15 million in US alone, so outside US is 15 million and divided by 2, each album sold 7.5 million internationally.
It can been seem from the "WH" sold in the largest market in the world such as Japan, Germany, France, UK, Canada & Australia.

"WH" sold 1.2 m in UK, 1 m in Canada, 0.8 m in Japan, 0.5 m in Germany, 0.1 m in France, 0.4 m in Aurstalia, total is 4 million with adding other small countries up to 7.5 million. Therefore, with 13 million in US, adding 7.5 million international sales, total is 20.5 million, up to present.

"W" sold 1.8 m in UK, 0.7 m in Canada, 0.7 m in Japan, 0.5 m in Germany, 0.2 m in France, 0.35 m in Australia, total is 4.25 million with adding other small countries up to 7.5 million. Therefore, with 9 million in US, adding 7.5 million international sales, total is 16.5 million.

When released "The Bodyguard", label said "I'm Your Baby Tonight" sold 7 million internationally, at that time, "I'mYBT" sold 3 million in US, which means outside US is 4 million, and now "I'mYBT" sold 4 million, therefore, overall is 8 million, anther evidence as can be seen from the "My Love Is Your Love" world tour book, it also stated officially 8 million, so nobody could judge it.

When released "The Greatest Hits", I believed all fans ever seen the heavy advertisement from the labels talking how she sold or made history in the past, it "officially" said it's sold 37 million, if you don't believe, just go back to check that advertisement. Another evidence can be seen in Germany BMG advertisement, it also said "The Bodyguard" sold 1.7 million in Germany, and certified 3xplatinum, and said international of "TB" stands 20 million outside US, it the most selling and also equal Michael Jackson's "Thriller", 46 million (26 m in US), so now when it said MJ's "Thriller" 54 m, it's rubbish, the writer could have been seen like thinking selling that level is that easy, it's not that easy to past 30 m in the world. And also "Saturday Night Fever", in 1987, it officially said sold 26.5 million, at that time it sold 11 m in US, 15.5 outside US, now it sold 15 m in US, add 4 m, total is 30.5 m internationally, to say it sold 40 m, it's impossible. If it was, than 40-15=25 m outside US, it already the headline in Billboard magazines, which is far more than "The Bodyguard" & "Thriller". Up to present, only "The Bodyguard" and "Thriller" stands the most copies sold outside US - 20 million, from the labels top president's words.
NB: "I Will Always Love You" granted by Guinness World Recrod for All Time Best selling singles with 10 m sold in the world, 4.6 in US, 1.35 m in UK, 810,000 in Japan, 500,000 in Germany, 280,000 in Australia, 250,000 in France, 80,000 in Netherlands, 10,000 in New Zealand, total is 7.9 million internationally.

Waiting To Exhale, it is officially said it sold 10 milion internationally from the official "MLIYL" world tour booklet. Therefore, 7 m in US and 3 m outside US, acceptable, since no more platinum ever certified to that title, just only gold, such as Germany, Australia, etc.except Canada-platinum-100,000 copies.

My Love Is Your Love, advertisement said it sold 8 million internationally, now, 4 m in US and 4 m in Europe, then racking up other countries, total could be more than 8 million, say 9 million is acceptable, since it didn't sold well in other countries outside US and Europe. 100,000 in Canada, 35,000 in Australia, 300,000 in Japan, adding total is 1 m for another coutries.
NB: it also OFFICIALLY said "My Love is Your Love" single sold 3 million worldwide. I think it's the second best selling single in her career internationally after "I Will Always Love You" 8 million. And I noticed that "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" sold 4.2 million, it's impossible, when watched the main largest market, just only 1 m in US (not 2 m, even it re-certified in 1989, it changed G=500,00, P=1 m, before 1989 G=1 m, P = 2m, "IWDWS" certied G in 1987, 2 years later in 1989 cerified P, don't mess with it, it said it is 1 m, another case you could see Michael Jackson's singles certification for "Billie Jean, "Beat It, etc. you could understand what I said.) and go back to "I Wanna Dance With Somebody", 0.5 m in UK, 0.2 in Germany, 50,000 in Canada, total is 1.75 million worldwide, 4.2 million, I think it's oversize.

The Greatest Hits, it sold 3 million in US, counted 1 unit means sold 1.5 million in US, soundscan also said it sold 1.3 million. 3 million sold in Europe, from IFPI, 0.75 m in Japan, 0.1 in Canada, 35,000 in Australia. Therefore, total is 5.4 million internationally.

Love Whitney, never released in US, lose the large market to upgrade the sales level, so just only see those small countries, to see how it sold. Not charted in Canada, Germany, Australia, just only charted in France and Japan and Japan has sold 34,000, racking up, I think just about 150,000.

Just Whitney, it sold 1 m in US, Soundscan sold 717,000. It didn't chart in UK & Australia & New Zealand & Sweden, pretty low in #33 in Austria, #85 in Canada, #25 in France (usually #10-#20 sold 100,000 at least), #16 in Germany, #20 in Italy, #41 in Japan (16,000 sold), #70 in Netherlands, #10 in Switzerland. So, this can be said that racking all other countries, it about 150,000 conservatively. I think the store stop ordered "JW" from label, as they know in their mind it's not her best selling catalogs, so just cleaning "JW" catalogs in the store, as can be seen from the Soundsacn few thousands, Store may like to order "The Bodyguard", "Whitney Houston" & "Whitney" only, as I always see this occassionally in the store, I could see her other catalogs. so it can be said why RIAA every few years upgrade the certification of these 3 titles, and other are not.

One Wish, it didn't do well in US, peak $49 and sold 244,000 in US, and only peaked at #170 in Japan, it didn't enter the chart all over the world, pretty poor. So it could be said that no sales all around the world, just only in US, I m or 1.1 m internationally. (Since we always use million as a unit for Whintey Houston, she's one of international super star.)

Titanic sold 29 million according to Billboard.
Celine Dion statistics are from Billboard too.
Title: Celine's 'New Day' Exclusive: New Epic Album Due In March
By Chuck Taylor
Date: January 26, 2002
Page 1 & 74
...Executives at Sony Music are counting on Dion's fans around the world to concur. Her two previous studio albums, Falling Into You and Let's Talk About Love, each moved more than 30 million copies around the world and 10.5 million and 9 million units, respectively, in the US. A 1998 holiday set, These Are Special Times, has sold 4 million copies in the US, while the 1999 greatest-hits collection All The Way...A Decade Of Song, which contained seven new songs, has topped sales of 17 million globally.

Sorry I forgot to post the link for you, here is Sony Music Japan link:

I'm a little bit confused about Mariah...
It's seem that challenging figures flow everywhere...
Can you resume all figures so i'll update the chart?
I am sure it's correct according to official for many years, but they didn't update them, and I can't do the corrections to change them all, that's what my situation is.

Waiting To Exhael -10 million
My Love Is Your Love - 9 million

I've found higher figures inside her official website for some of those:

Whitney Houston - 23 million
Whitney - 19 million
My Love Is Your Love - 10 million

Follow the links on the chart...
Did you just taken from "Classic Whitney" website, it's not official label website, it's official fans website. They are 2 different things.

TNX!! please!!!
I've just added CALIFORNICATION on the chart above with this reliable BBC link

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/3864401.stm

"Chili Peppers' album tops survey

The Red Hot Chili Peppers album Californication has been voted the best album of the last 10 years in a poll.
Oasis' (What's The Story) Morning Glory came second in the online survey by men's magazine FHM.
Eminem's The Marshall Mathers LP was third, with U2 album All That You Can't Leave Behind placed fourth.
Californication was released five years ago and has gone on to sell more than 15 million copies for the US rock band who emerged in 1983. "
But i'v also found another reliable figures, a little lower, from a bio-publisher at this link

http://btobsearch.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?sourceid=00395996645644787198&btob=Y&endeca=1&isbn=1401301010&itm=4

Scar Tissue

FROM THE PUBLISHER
As lead singer and songwriter for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Anthony Kiedis has lived life on the razor's edge. So much has been written about him, but until now, we've only had Kiedis's songs as clues to his experience from the inside. In Scar Tissue, Kiedis proves himself to be as compelling a memoirist as he is a lyricist, giving us a searingly honest account of the life from which his music has evolved.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers are that rare breed of rock band. Critically lauded and popularly embraced by millions of fans, their albums consistently sell into the stratosphere — their CD Californication sold over 13 million copies alone.
Bytheway (eh eh) i've chose the higher figures...

Ok, i'll go to update these figures...

okey... Maybe i've to adjust a little lower this figures in the chart, but i'll wait for more reliable data before any definitive update...

I still believe the 150 millions Diamond World Music Award Mariah received last year was more than official and reliable...
