"Stadium Arcadium, the Chili Peppers 9th studio album officially became the Peppers first #1 album in the United States Wednesday selling 442,489 units in it's first week.

Stadium Arcadium's domination didn't stop there as it topped the album charts in 17 other countries including Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Holland, Ireland, Isreal, Italy, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Sweeden, Switzerland, and the UK. Stadium Arcadium has already been certified Platinum in Australia, Austria, Brazil, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland, and the UK, as well as gold in Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Holland, Norway, Spain, and Sweden."
Impressive. But can it really have sold 120k 1st week in Italy ? That's a staggering amount for Italy especially considering that's almost half of what BTW & Greatest Hits have both done there overall. Also, if it's only 1xPlat there...1xPlat is now only equal to 80k. Surely it should at least be 2xPlat with sales of 120k. Isn't 120k a shipment figure ?

"Italia, dove Stadium Arcadium ha superato le 120mila copie vendute in una sola settimana di uscita"
and on quotidian newspapers..

new news

It's the RIAA which count each CD, not Soundscan which count 1 copie sold for one copie sold, do not care if it contains 1, 2 or 10 discs.
So they are 442000 copies sold of Jupiter and 442000 of Mars, nearly 1 million copies (884k) according to the RIAA rules (adding shipment, this album should be 2xP very quickly).

1.8 million copies shipped. Sales were much lower than sales of SA. By The Way sold ~280k in USA and 134k in UK, it should has sold around 700k WW in his first week.

Chili Peppers Heat Up Euro Chart

By Paul Sexton, London
photo
RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS
Red Hot Chili Peppers scores its fourth consecutive No. 1 album on European Top 100 Albums, as "Stadium Arcadium" (Warner Bros.) gives the band another winning start across the region by climbing 64-1.

In the United Kingdom, it moves a hefty 202,000 to open at the top and also begins at No. 1 in Germany, Italy, France, Holland, Switzerland, Austria, Sweden, Denmark and Ireland.

"Arcadium" additionally opens at No. 2 in Spain and No. 6 in Portual and Poland, and climbs in markets with earlier chart deadlines: 6-1 in Norway and 7-2 and 3-2 respectively in the Belgian regions of Wallony and Flanders. In Finland, it's down 1-2. The single "Dani California," which reached No. 3 last week on Eurochart Hot 100 Singles, now stands at No. 4, debuting at No. 2 in Sweden.

Warner Brothers VP, international marketing Dion Singer says that the album's initial European shipment is 1.2 million, from a global figure in excess of three million. "The album is currently No. 1 in 22 countries worldwide," he notes, "and in most markets, over the counter numbers are significantly higher than the first week on [2002's] 'By The Way.'" That album spent six weeks at the helm of Top 100 Albums and more than a year on the chart, then the non-U.S. release "Live In Hyde Park" had two weeks on top in the summer of 2004. The band's chart-topping run in Europe stretches back to July 1999, when "Calfornification" hit No. 1.

from Billboard ;)

and "Stadium arcadium" it's not Platinum in Brasil yet, but I think it can get there. It's initial shipments are great, 40,000 copies (like Madonna's COAD wich is at 100k now)

Yes, very impressive ! is that, mainly, 'cos its counted as 2 units though (like in USA/Canada) ? I'd be pretty amazed if it actually sold more than 50k 1st week in Australia.

RIAA is not automaticaly updated, the major has to ask and pay for certifications.

No in Australia it is not counted as 2 units but yes as 1 unit, they are 140k sold (=shipped) of Stadium Arcadium.

1st cert for S.A in USA will probably be 2xPlat in a few weeks when SS sales are about 900k.

Surely over 1 million copies are already shipped in USA so SA should already be 2xPlatinum.

BTW, check HEREmy site to get quickly every chart/sales info about SA. This will be updated every week.

S.A stays at # 1 in UK. :D Not sure about sales yet - probably something like 80-120k.

Also, i just got the following up date US only Soundscan info from Musicweek :

'Stadium Arcadium's success (in USA) swells the RHCP's total album sales to more than 19m, of which Californication accounts for 5,349,230 copies and Blood Sugar Sex Magic for 4,541,122'
