So by mid May to a few days before mid May, 21 will have sold 1 million. From 8 million to 9 million. It would of took her 2 months. From Mid March to Mid May. And with her sales decreasing, I give it 4 months until she reaches Diamond. She should have it by late September. Unless they put a lot of Adele music during the Olympics and well, who knows what can happen next.

Bear in mind that after reaching 9 million, 21 will experience Mother's day sales, Billboard award sales, and Rumour has it will be reaching it's radio peak. Also, Diamond could well be awarded when Soundscan sales are at about 9.5 million, so I'm going to predict July for Diamond cert.

What about "Dangerous" (1991) by Michael Jackson?
I thought it was over 6 million copies sold years ago.
Anyone got the most recent soundscan number?

^We discussed this a few pages back.

SoundScan has 2 different versions. If the 2 totals were combined, the total would be over 6 million.

Queen Greatest Hits should have something substantial this week, they're doing a great job right now on Idol.

Great! :D But I think "Ropin' the Wind" is still ahead of "Let's Talk About Love". It's last update was almost 4 years ago!

^Yes, but until we get a new SoundScan figure, Garth is stuck at #23.

I don't think Garth's albums are well stocked at US retailers.

Amazon has a lot of Garth product:

I think with a new album looming, Usher has a good chance of cracking 10x before Adele.

Either way, I don't care about shipments, as someone who loves to follow Soundscan, I personally find it exciting that four albums (the three 9.9x titles and Adele) are all likely to hit the elusive 10 million scan club in the next 6-8 months. I think since this thread was started in 2005, only five (Norah, Beatles, Bob and Eminem x2) have crossed that mark in seven years time, and we're about to have four new additions this very year. After Pearl Jam and Linkin Park do it, I think the next closest will be Pink Floyd and it might be another 2-3 years before that.

4 new 10million sellers is in fact FANTASTIC!

Other than those 4 though, isn't there any album with 2 separate counts that may be combined, a la Journey or Bob Marley that can cross 10mil?

Also, this week's update might only yield 1 mover, James Taylor, rare in the 21 era, or am I missing something?

5/5/12 Billboard charts:

As of this week, Luther Vandross has sold 20 million albums since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking sales for Billboard in 1991. Vandross sold millions more albums in the 10 years before that: His debut album, Never Too Much, was released in late summer 1981. Vandross, who died in 2005, is among the top R&B balladeers of all time.

Not particularly substantial, but not bad either: it sold 6,000 copies this week apparently.

Well Adele doing promo in June, interview on the Today Show and a NBC Primetime Concert Special.

Paul Grein for the 5/19/12 charts:

The Beastie Boys has sold 19,985,000 albums in the U.S. since 1991, when Nielsen SoundScan began tracking sales for Billboard. That's more than any other rap group.

Bone Thugs N Harmony is second with sales of 16,867,000.

Cypress Hill is third with 10,328,000.
