Look what I have:
2007 TOP TEN SELLING ARTISTS OF SOUNDSCAN ERA
(1991-12/30/2007)
Artist - Units Sold
3 Mariah Carey - 49,937,000
4 Celine Dion - 49,692,000
Thanks.
Now with the total (1991-12/30/2006) and the number of copies sold:
Artist - total 2007 - total 2006 - #copies sold in 2007
3 Mariah Carey - 49.937m 49.606m 0.331m
4 Celine Dion - 49.692m 48.395m 1.297m
Celine Dion will be the first woman to surpass the 50 million mark and she will also surpass Mariah Carey. The 2 thinks will happen in February. |
|
Well we'll see:
Mariah hast to sell 67 000 thousand copies
Celine needs 308 000 thousand copies!!
That's competition, don't you think? |
No because the album of Celine is in the top 20 and sold 60.000 copies last week.
Mariah needs 3 months to sell 67.000 copies.
Celine can sell 300.000 in 2 months.
And Celine will have a TV Special for CBS in February.

Mariah Carey has a new album out this Spring. She will easily sell 400,000 in her first week and will pass 50 million too.

No offense, but don't you think you're being a little too blindsighted being a Celine fan and a non-fan of other female artists? Mariah needs to sell 63k, Celine does 308k. You are aware that the holiday season is over and that Taking Chances is going to collapse down to 20-35k a week now, right? Plus, without a hit song on the radio or any VH1 airplay (and remember Celine was once synonymous with VH1), the album could fall even flatter. You might not realize this but Mariah is about to drop a new album in a few months, and the leadoff single is going to go to radio any day now. This will definately have an impact on Mariah's catalog sales. She's already selling 5-7k a week when factoring in Greatest Hits, Mimi, #1's, Remixes and everything else. Celine will without a doubt pass 50m this year, she may even make it to 51m if Taking Chances has any staying power (and plus there's always a given she'll sell about 200k every Christmas season), but you are only acting like a sheep who doesn't like other artists if you think there's no shot in hell Mariah has a shot at passing 50m first, when she's got a new cd coming in early spring.

#1: I don't think that Taking Chances will sell only 20-35k in the next weeks. It sold 60k last week and 135k in the christmas week. It will down but sell only 20-35k copies means down 50 places. (The album was #20 last week).
#2: I know that Mariah will release a new album. I like Mariah. I have 3 of her albums. I visit every day the site mariahdaily.com. But she will release the new album only in April.
#3: "Mariah needs to sell 63k, Celine does 308k"
Yes, i know, but Celine has a new album, she will have a TV Special for the USA and she will re-release some albums in February.
#4: Of course that with the new album Mariah will surpass Celine but Celine will be the first to surpass the 50 million mark (Maybe 1 or 2 weeks before Mariah )

Yes, and according to the site of billboard ( http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/discography/index.jsp?pid=4468&aid=391419) she will release also a album with the name "Live In Las Vegas: A New Day", someting with the name "Box 2008" (it's not the box set with Falling, Let's Talk, A New...) and re-release her coompilation All The Way.
And she will release her last dvd in blu-ray and for the first time her concert in Memphis in dvd.
All in February.

Oh my God, so many re-releases, don't think it makes any sence to release 5 CD of the same artist in one month, but hey Celine has to make up for lost time. I think she will release a new live CD this year, and the new album will see the light of day of 2009. She does has to sing only, so she has no problem with writing or producing her songs. Mostly she records it in couple of weeks! Oh oh, what did I said! No offense to anyone!

- I've corrected the totals for 2Pac, Prince and Snoop Dogg with sales for albums which Soundscan did not include.
- The # of titles tracked exclude EP's, interview and karaoke albums.
- The year of the artist's debut refers to the year the artist entered the Billboard album chart for the first time. |

Shania Twain - 240k... She truly dropped in the last years !
Backstreet Boys less than 200k with a new album... lol
Enya who used to be a huge catalog seller 213k ? Michael Bolton 97k ? Nelly 107k ? Morissette 111k ? Janet 127k ? Outkast, REM, Destiny's Child or even Sheryl Crow, all less than 200k ?
And to finish, Metallica barely 800k ?
So many entire catalog dropped a lot... Those numbers are all rather low. They are not many acts over 500k without a new album out in 2007.

I think that last year positions of those albums are incorrect Han, it seems that they are all 'new' in the top 100

Thanks to the brilliant Hanboo we have brand new figures.

#4: Of course that with the new album Mariah will surpass Celine but Celine will be the first to surpass the 50 million mark (Maybe 1 or 2 weeks before Mariah ) |
Sales are very low after the Holidays. Remember that during 2007, almost every week saw a decrease of about 20% compared to 2006. Just check the charts. We even so a #10 album selling 28,000 copies only! So, this year sales will be even lower while the digital songs market continues to grow. Taking Chances isn’t a fast seller, so don’t expect it to break the million mark (scans) soon... it still has to sell 200k without a hit on the radio. AC audience is very low.
Mariah will probably do very well there. Her new album will fit the US market. So, Celine will stay #4. Even if she manages to climb to #3 in March, her reign will be a short one.
The TV special will boost the album sales that week. But if there’s no radio airplay, people will forget about it the following week. That’s what happened to her latest French album in France. About re-editions of older albums, "These Are Special Times" was re-issued on October 2, 2007 and sales were only a few hundred copies until the Christmas season began. Then sales were as high as in the previous years. I doubt people will buy "A New Day Has Come" with such disappointing contents (same tracklisting, same bonus DVD of the DVD single).

I am still surprised despite Justin's popularity, N'Sync has continued to have a stigma as a boyband. You'd figure with a slew of hits on the chart and a huge tour (and also with Justifed being a constant fixture on the Top 200 Catalog albums a week) that N'Sync albums would've been selling at a steady pace considering who the main member was. At least the Greatest Hits would've been expected to do well on the back of Justin's continued popularity.

but you do know how music sales plummet once everyone's used up giftcards to buy cd's or whatever? It's fairly common for a #20 album to sell 25,000 on a good week. This isn't the 90's anymore, there have been weeks where the #50 album in America is selling under 10,000. Judging where Taking Chances is at right now, it'll be selling 15-25k a week at best from here on, unless she goes on American Idol or something and gets a good week out of it.
You say there'll be a TV special? Did you see how that did for Madonna in 2006? Yes, her sales went up the following week, but it still didn't even boost Confessions back onto the top 200 after it'd been off a few months.

The number of titles tracked by Soundscan by these guys are unbelievable!
OK I knew there was a massive amount of Elvis & Sinatra albums out there, but 228 titles by Marley!!! I had no idea
I bet one album sold at least half of his 563K though
