Thanks(belatedly) Brian.
This is indeed a mystery...no doubt this is a great show, but why this, enjoying belated chart sucsess, when there are other(superior) Presley comps out there, like "Elvis '56",for instance?
Hi Jerry,

Your guess is as good as mine. I wrote to Billboard to see if they could throw some light on the matter but did not get a reply. Sony(UK) feel that it is more than likely due to the cheap price.

Brian
Thanks Brian.
I can buy that, but all the Elvis CDs at the Wal Marts Ive checked out are priced the same as AAATG.
Apparently,at WMs I havent been to,there is some kind of push going for this title.
Best.
Hi Jerry,

I must admit I didn't buy the Sony explanation either because as you say other titles are on sale at the same price. However, I was not aware that there was some kind of promotion taking place for AAITG. Would be interesting to get a photograph of any display etc.

Best.

Indeed jbnva59, get snapping but don't get arrested while doing it though. No wandering lenses...Lol.

No, seriously, I have done similar in the past and it is a good idea. Speak with the counter staff and see if Sony/RCA reps are pushing it. Like I've said before, I reckon it is close to gold now because this is a determined effort for a reason.

Your our man on the spot!

I have compiled a 6-CD set for my girlfriend featuring classic rock and soul songs, mostly from 1964 to 1970. I am working on an accompanying booklet featuring lyrics, song and artist info as well as pics of the artists. Since I've included 6 Elvis songs from 1968/1969, I am asking folks to tell me about the coolest 6 Elvis pics from that period that I could use? Cheers.

Elvis - Longest Span Of No.1 Albums on Billboard 200 Chart

The following appears in the latest Edition of Billboard Magazine:

Elvis Presley had his first No. 1 46 years, 5 months and three weeks before his last one. The King's first No. 1 album was "Elvis Presley" (first week at No. 1: May 5, 1956) and his most recent No. 1 album was "ELVIS: 30 #1 Hits" (last week at No. 1: Oct. 26, 2002).

An Afternoon In The Garden re-entered the Billboard 200 this week - at #177 - with 3,087 copies sold. Total sales now stand at 306,183.

(i) As of (late) October last year, the album had scanned a total of 194,552 units.
(ii) A total of 306,183 units had been scanned in the US, as of last Sunday.

--> Consequently, An Afternoon In The Garden sold/scanned approximately 112,000 copies in the past 9 months.

To date, the album has spent 20 weeks on the Catalogue chart and 14 weeks on the Billboard 200. An Afternoon In The Garden is - with quite a margin - the best-selling Elvis album in 2011. Its chart performance and sales are - actually - better than the all the "new" Sony mainstream Elvis releases from the past ~3 years (including Viva Elvis & Elvis 75).

Here is a short summary of how the album has performed on the US charts, since its - quite unexpected - appearance earlier this spring:

It is currently certified Gold in Sweden.

Paul McCartney said: "Elvis has always been on Top... His records always made me feel good. I thought the Beatles had gold records, until I had a private tour of Graceland... the hall of Gold says it all... Elvis has the most Gold, Platinum, and Multi-Platinum sales of all of us.... amazing man... simply amazing

This is an important milestone in RIAA certifications for Elvis, his first RIAA diamond award and the first Christmas holiday album to be certified diamond. It is a great achievement. His critiques can no longer state that he does not have a diamond award and belittle his achievements where album sales are concerned; until now nearly every top artist had a diamond award with the exception of Elvis.

I don’t know how they managed to find the extra sales because BMG (now Sony Music after merger) had reported that 1 million album sales were disqualified under the RIAA rules regarding album sales. It would be interesting to find out where the extra album sales came from to qualify for the diamond award.

I have been campaigning for about a year to get Elvis' Christmas Album(1970 version) upgraded to Diamond status. Recently, I informed Scott Williams (Marketing Director) at EPE of the situation regarding it being deleted from the current catalog with over 9 million sales. He was not aware of the situation and promised to get in touch with SONY to get it re-released and upgraded to Diamond status if that was at all possible. Obviously a bit of badgering has paid off. I suspect SONY has re-released it and 'shipped' enough copies to cater for sales over the next couple of Christmases. Naturally,I am very pleased about this.

Thanks Blackbird. The news gets better and better. Further, as of December, 2010 'Elvis' Christmas Duets' album had sold 431,000 copies - just 69,000 copies short of a GOLD Award. I expect this to be achieved very soon - perhaps by early 2012 following the Christmas sales.

I just read something very funny in the review of the 2004 FTD "Harum Scarum":

Exotic Elvis - 'Harum Scarum' (Feb 1965. 25 tracks, 66 mins)

The Many Elvis fans deluxe gatefold sleeve packaging contains some excellent photos and rare publicity stills. It was during this period in his life that Elvis had considered becoming a monk and started visiting the spiritual 'Self-Realization Fellowship'. If you had seen the pre-production script of 'Harum Scarum' you would have probably done the same!

Good ole Elvis.

Recently I checked out Presley's movie soundtracks of the 1960s. Someone who bought the Double feature releases back in the 1990s made copies for me about 6 years ago. While I gave them a listen back then, I wasn't too impressed with what I heard.

But recently I got back to them and there are many songs which grew on me.

A while back I made a list of my favorite Elvis songs of the 1960s (87 songs, most of them non-soundtrack). If I'd redo that list, I'd probably add about 20-25 movie songs! Among my absolute favorites are "One Track Heart", "Pocketful of Rainbows", "Big Love, Big Heartacke", "Let's Forget About The Stars", "The Girl I Never Loved", "Am I Ready?", "I Got Lucky" (with the long intro), "Home Is Where The Heart Is", "Because Of Love", "There's A Brand New Day On The Horizon", "Happy Ending", "Roustabout", Let's Be Friends", "You Don't Know Me", "Wonderful World", "Change Of Habit", "Almost In Love", "Cotton Candy Land", "Do The Vega", "How Would You Like To Be" and "All That I Am".

I think the 1995 "Best of Film Soundtracks" compilation "Command Performances" left out a lot of the best songs Presley recorded during the 1960s!

Also, some of his finest ballads have been songs for movies but they almost never feature on the usual "Romantic Elvis" or "Ballads" compilations which BMG/RCA release ritually ("All That I Am", "The Girl I Never Loved", "Am I Ready?", "Home Is Where The Heart Is", "You Don't Know Me", "Because of Love").
