Well what if in the preview of the post you can see the whole picture but once you poste it the end part is missing (because presumably it's too large)? Is there a way to prevent or fix this?

Re-size the image. Or just post the link so it opens in a new window/tab rather than embedding the image.

"Forcing" UKMix to widen to accomodate oversize images is frowned upon here.

Any image editing software will allow you to change the size of the image.

Even Microsoft Paint allows you to do this (in my version, which is an old one running under Windows XP, this means selecting "Stretch/Skew" under "Image")

Image

Then you can select by what percentage you want to reduce (or enlarge) the image. Type the same number in both the horizontal and vertical fields, or the aspect of your image will change.

Image

Voila. Your image has been reduced and you can save the image and upload it to your preferred image hosting service.
