This is amazing!!!! And so deserved! He was one of America's biggest stars and I am so glad to see him return to his glory!
"Take A Bow"... Rihanna's ONLY ballad to go #1 on the Hot 100 (also topped the R&B Chart)... Great deed for her most epic ballad!!!

bigham
you forgot

"Ill Communication" (1994) , 3xPlatinum in 1998

so their RIAA total is 22xPlatinum.
And because their "Anthology" is a double album, they are certified for 21 million albums.

^Thanks. I'll edit and the RIAA no longer counts double albums as 1 album for RIAA totals. They stopped that a long time ago.

www.riaa.com:

RIAA Announces Eleven First-Time Gold & Platinum Award Recipients
April 19, 2012

Ellie Goulding, Fun., Gotye, One Direction, Outasight, Tyga, The Wanted & More Earn Premiere Certifications, While Adele, Mary J. Blige, Luke Bryan & Nickelback Albums Reach New Heights

WASHINGTON – Eleven musical acts joined the Recording Industry Association of America’s (RIAA’s) celebrated Gold & Platinum club in March upon receiving their first RIAA certifications, according to the music group’s newest monthly tally.

Four budding bands earned their very first Gold AND Platinum awards for selling more than one million downloads of their respective popular songs. The talented cast features NYC indie pop band Fun. for “We Are Young” (Atlantic Records), Australian solo singer Gotye for “Somebody That I Used To Know” (Universal Republic), Cali rapper Tyga for “Rack City” (Universal Republic) and UK boy band The Wanted for “Glad You Came” (Mercury Records).

RIAA Gold download certifications, representing more than 500,000 in digital song sales, were awarded to seven first-time recipients in March. Gold plaques went to Interscope DJ Avicii for “Levels,” Columbia quartet Big Time Rush’s “Boyfriend,” Interscope songstress Ellie Goulding’s “Lights,” Syco Records pop band One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful,” Warner Bros. songster Outasight’s “Tonight Is The Night,” Reunion Records Christian group Tenth Avenue North’s “By Your Side” and Universal Republic rapper YC Worldwide’s “Racks.”

Speaking of hot hits, more than five million digital purchases of “Grenade” (Elektra, 2010) netted Bruno Mars March’s highest song certification: a 5x multi-Platinum award. “Grenade” and “Just the Way You Are” are Bruno’s two highest certified singles yet (both 5x multi-Platinum).

Foster the People, LMFAO and Kanye West each earned 4x multi-Platinum plaques for their respective tracks “Pumped Up Kicks” (Columbia), “Sexy And I Know It” (A&M) and “Heartless” (Def Jam), while 3x multi-Platinums were awarded to Adele and The Fray for “Set Fire To The Rain” (Columbia/XL Recordings) and “You Found Me” (Epic), respectively.

“In the Dark” by electropop singer Dev (full name Devin Star Tailes) and “Sail” by alt rock band AWOLNATION grew from Gold to Platinum in March, signifying one million paid downloads each.

On the album front, superb songstress Adele received March’s highest award, a 9x multi-Platinum certification for 21 (2011) selling more than nine million copies.

Jazz great Tony Bennett and country luminary Luke Bryan earned the month’s two Platinum album awards for their respective 2011 records Duets II (RPM/Columbia) and Tailgates & Tanlines (Capitol Nashville). These RIAA Platinum album awards mark Bennett’s third and Bryan’s first.

A variety of certifiably popular musicians upped their Gold album award ante in March: Mary J. Blige earned her 12th Gold for My Life II... The Journey Continues (Act 1) (Geffen/Matriarch, 2011), Nickelback took home their sixth for Here and Now (Roadrunner Records, Inc., 2011) and TobyMac earned his fourth for Tonight (Forefront Records, 2010).

In March the RIAA awarded a total of nine albums, 49 digital singles and one video longform certification. All certifications are calculated by Gelfand, Rennert & Feldman. Complete lists of all album, single, mastertone and video awards can also be accessed at www.riaa.com.
