Didn't know where to post this... since it's about touring, well:
With the latest huge numbers for Roger Waters' tour coming in (almost 40M for the Buenos Aires dates alone!) i assume we're expecting The Wall live to hit the top 10 in the Highest Grossing Tours right?

Well, based on the wikipidia site for the tour, prior to the Buenos Aires dates, the tour had done $242,363,636 from 139 shows. It only needs to pass $300 million in sales to be top 10, so at this point it looks like it is a shoe in for the top 10.

This tour once finished will have done 192 shows, primarily in arena's at reduced capacity. There are 27 stadiums shows within the 192 total shows. More than half of the stadium shows are in South America. Total attendance for the tour to date prior to the Buenos Aires shows is 1,977,251.

The average ticket price is $122.50

The Wall Live's wiki page seems to be updated but there seems to be a mistake, as the Buenos Aires concerts shows a boxscore of 3,820,182USD when Billboard Biz reports 37,970,877USD for that, given that it sold 430,678 tickets there it's more logical the 37M figure...if so I don't know if the total is allright then (it's now up to 322M+-)

here's the billboard biz link:

- 16 shows of over $1mil in one week alone from reporting. He had just a slew of them below the $1mil mark, but only counted those.
- $81,058,872 for just this reporting period. Anyone have his total figures thus far? I don't know the length of this run, but I remember him talking about it in early 2012 on the Fallon show when Fallon had the Pink Floyd week, and assumed he had already done extensive touring with it.

It must be a fantastic show. Just had to sell my tickets for Charlotte, NC next week, but at this rate and money, he'll be touring this or DSOTM for years to come.

He'll undoubtedly wrap this up and it'll be the highest grossing tour by a soloist of all-time.

It's likely that Madonna will not even outgross her Sticky & Sweet Tour, which is quite unexpected for me. When Moggio made his $900 million prediction, he obviously was not aware of the impact of the effect of playing some markets for the first time. Who would have expected such a massive decrease of demand in the following markets?

Belgium

It will be similar in Vienna, Zürich, Warsaw and Helsinki.

What is also interesting is that there seems to be a massive drop in popularity in solid markets as well.
She chose to play arenas in Germany, Netherlands and Spain and is struggling to keep up with what she achieved in her last tour in France, Italy, UK and Denmark.

Thanks for comparing the figures. I think Paris is actually the biggest surprise. Going from over 180,000 for two shows, to just 62,000 for one show is a big decline.

Denmark also saw a big drop to just 29,000. Its even more surprising since many years ago, Madonna had one of her highest attended shows in Denmark.

ooops, I think he might of gotten that figure mixed up with U2's. Still, going from 138,000 down to 62,000 is a big fall. It shows that demand was not high enough to sellout one show, let alone two.

from Billboard Biz:

Hot Tours: Roger Waters On Top, Bruce Springsteen On His Tail
Aug. 09, 2012 | By Silvio Pietroluongo, New York

Roger Waters, featured in a recent Billboard cover story, closes out his highly successful The Wall Live Tour with a final No. 1 placement on the Hot Tours chart. Ticket sales totals from the tour's final eight North American dates, that wrapped on July 21 in Canada, were reported during the past week, totaling $28.1 million from 247,671 sold seats. The Wall Live recently topped Billboard's mid-year touring chart.

Three of the venues reported were major league baseball stadiums: Boston's Fenway Park, Yankee Stadium in New York and Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. The Boston performance was on July 1 with a crowd of 27,847 in attendance. Waters played two shows at Yankee Stadium with a combined attendance total of 62,188 for both July 6 and 7, and the Philadelphia date was on July 14 with ticket sales totaling 36,773. The final performance was an outdoor event on the Plains of Abraham, a historic battlefield in Quebec City. The last concert on July 21 drew more than 71,000 fans. The Wall Live Tour kicked off in Toronto on September 15, 2010, and overall ticket sales since the launch total $377.9 million. From 192 performances, the total number of tickets sold tops 3.3 million.

Bruce Springsteen is second on this week's Hot Tours chart with grosses reported from the last two dates on the European leg of his Wrecking Ball World Tour. Two shows at Ullevi Stadion in Gothenburg, Sweden drew more than 131,000 fans on July 27 and 28 and grossed more than $11.9 million (US$), the tour's top gross so far. The European leg wrapped on July 31 in Finland with a sellout crowd of 43,534 in attendance at Helsinki's Olympiastadion. A second North American leg will begin on Aug. 14 with shows booked for two consecutive nights at Fenway Park in Boston. Stadium and arena dates are on the books through early December.

Landing at No. 9 among this week's 10 top-grossing tours is the GIGANT3S Tour featuring Latin music stars Marc Anthony, Marco Antonio Solís and Chayanne. An August 5 concert at Orlando's Amway Center is the first performance reported from the tour that kicked off two days earlier in Miami. Produced by Cardenas Marketing Network, the tour is set to play arenas in U.S. markets through mid-September.

So what's the total final figure? Did it exceed $400m worldwide?

it's right in the article: "The Wall Live Tour kicked off in Toronto on September 15, 2010, and overall ticket sales since the launch total $377.9 million. From 192 performances..."

ooops, I think he might of gotten that figure mixed up with U2's. Still, going from 138,000 down to 62,000 is a big fall. It shows that demand was not high enough to sellout one show, let alone two.
Yeah, these were U2's figures, sorry!

Here's the correct Madonna boxscore for Paris 2008

S&S
September 20, 21 2008
Paris, Stade de France
Attendance: 138,163
Gross: $17,583,211
Shows: 2

The rest of Madonna's results are in for Europe and they don't look good based on Madonna's past performance in these markets. The newly reported shows from Poland, Finland, Switzerland, Norway, Russia, France, Austria and Ireland have her doing business that is about half of what she did last time in those markets.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MDNA_Tour

Totals for her 30 date European tour are:

GROSS: $115,701,909
ATTENDANCE: 985,340

With the other dates lined up so far, it looks like she will hit $275 million at best. Even if she were to add New Zealand, Australia and Japan, her final total will still be behind Sticky And Sweet by a good bit, let alone the $900 million that MOGGIO was predicting.
