For the two singles, the Silver award was for sales of 250,000 shipments, not 200,000 as the sales levels for certifications were higher back then (until December 1988).

One question about Tubular Bells, some months ago a newspaper in UK gave it free with sunday copy, i read that 3 million were given.
I know it doesn´t count in certification, but if this is truth it had sold more than 5 million records in uk alone
In other words Virgin said some many years ago that it sold more than 16 million all around the world

Nobody has a clue about how many copies sold Tubular Bells in the US ? It was certified Gold in 74, but sold probably close to 2m by 1975. I have no idea about how many copies it sold from this date to now. Has it at least been charted in the catalog chart from 82 to now ?

If someone has a serious article or so on this issue it will be great.

BTW, I do not think this album sold anywhere near 16m worldwide.

NZ - Gold (probably the first certification and not re-certifications in 2005, but it peaked at #25)

AU - none.

MJD: In a circa 2005 interview I remember Mike saying that all the estimates are way over, and he hired someone to get an accurate total which came out to about 9m.
