There goes my #1!

She's just the best. A true talent and legend, with an amazing voice to boot. Best voice in the biz tied with MISIA, but MISIA beats her out because she still has her voice unlike Mariah who's sort of lost it but still has a very nice one.

Well, Mariah is a great singer, though i think Whitney has/had a better one. About her writing skills, ghm, i think Gwen is far beyond her, but that's my opininon. Wow at Christina being top2.

Well didn't Madonna beat MJ in that other poll about UKmix's fave artists (male/female/groups)? She is bound to win this too!

Mariah Carey only at #3? :o :x

Okay, where to start? :P

Mariah is one of my biggest inspirations. She is my favourite artist of all time, and there is no other singer in this world who even comes to close to her, IMO. Mariah is a true genius. Her music has gotten me through some rotten times, and I honestly do not know what I would do without Mariah in my life.

Her voice is just so delicate, so soothing and yet so powerful. Her songs are just mesmorising, but the highlight is always her voice - that irreplaceable voice. She is incredibly talented, and I don't think she gets half of the praise that she deserves. Her song writing skills are simply superb, and even when Walter and her usual hit writers departed, she still kept churning out those classics.

I think she is so beautiful, and her transformation from the 1990 innocent angel, to her "Mimi" era was just so inspiring. She really came out of her shell, and decided to do what she wanted to do, and I can't say how much respect I have for her for that. It takes so much courage for someone to fully become themselves, and break free of such a controlling person, where nobody appreciates your real self, and you can't even express your true feelings.

Her self-titled debut album, is by far, the greatest debut album of any female singer. Each and every track is a standout, and her voice is on top form. It may be over eighteen years old, but it still sounds as fresh as it did back then. "Prisoner" and "Vanishing" are the greatest album tracks.

"Emotions" is very personal, and I can really feel Mariah's emotion in this. Her vocals are even better than on her debut, and all three singles were classics. "The Wind" is one of the most diverse tracks Mariah did in the early 90's, and it's by far the most moving. A brilliant slice of adult contemporary.

"Music Box" is just a masterpiece. This could have been mistaken for a 'Greatest Hits' package. I've recently been into "I've Been Thinkin' About You", and "Never Forget You". Both were much more in the direction that Mariah wanted to go in, and I love how we get a little but more of her in each of releases.

"Merry Christmas" is the greatest Christmas album of all time. Each and every track is soulful, and perfectly sung. It just isn't Christmas without this record.

"Daydream" is simply undescribable. She really went up in leaps and bounds in the 90's, and "Daydream" was her greatest release at that point. I can't explain the feeling that I get from this album. Each track is so carefully sung, and there isn't a weak moment. It's full of soothing 90's R&B-influenced ballads that just can't be beaten.

"Butterfly" is one of the greatest creations to ever exist on earth. It's easily the best R&B album of all time. Mariah's vocals are softer, but more relaxing and even more beautiful. I just loved this era from start to finish. Her image, the album art, the music, the videos, the tour - just everything. "Breakdown", "Close My Eyes", "My All", Whenever You Call" are some of my favourite songs of all time.

"Outside" is a new favourite of mine. It's really personal to me, and at the moment I'm listening to it at least two or three times a day. That last chorus is simply sublime, and I think this might become my favourite Mariah track of all time in a few months.

"Rainbow" was again, a fantastic slice of Pop/R&B. "Crybaby", "After Tonight", "Thank God I Found You", "Heartbreaker", "How Much" and "Petals" were all just wonderful. I also loved the album art, and thought the tour was just brilliant.

"Glitter" was good, but not really on par with the rest of her albums. I still enjoyed it, but I just felt really sorry for her. She didn't deserve to have all of that negative press, and her emotional breakdown was difficult to watch.

"Charmbracelet" was immensley laid-back and relaxing. I loved her vocals, because her soft coo's were very appropriate for the chillout vibe that came with the record. "My Saving Grace" and "Miss You" are must-haves. She really shines on these.

"The Emancipation Of Mimi" was the greatest come back of all time. So many of the songs are in my Top 50 Mariah songs. It's just a 21st century classic, that any Pop or R&B fan must have. It's slick. It's well produced, and her vocals were her best since her 1994-1997 period, where I feel her vocals were the best. "We Belong Together" was just a masterpiece, "Shake It Off" is just pure genius, and her throwback "old school" ballads are legendary. "Mine Again", "Fly Like A Bird" and "Circles" are just superb. A perfect record. I was so proud to see her return at such a high level.

"E=MC2" wasn't as good as its preceeder, but it's still solid. There's no real 'standout', but I enjoy each and every track. I couldn't ask for anything more.

Mariah is a legend that I will admire for the rest of my life. Words can't describe how much her music moves me, and I hope she continues to write classics for many years to come. She might have lost her trademark belts, and her recent album isn't another 10 million seller, but she is still beautiful, she still keeps churning out classics for her fans, and her slaters can never take that away from her.

Me too. Madonna is more well known, and has always been thought of the "Queen Of Pop" anyway, so it wouldn't be suprising. :P

Thank you all for your kind words. It's great to know some of you appreciate Mariah's music as much as I do.

AyumiH, you put Mariah at #1? You are a legend. Best. Poster. Ever. 8-)

It's time to reveal the final two positions. It may be a big surprise for many. I also would like to thank the UKMixers who took part in this chart and who commented the positions. It was a lot of fun for me. I also wanna say thank u to the ones who understood the delay at times due to my work, illness etc. I did my best, I swear.:D

Here are the second-fave and the fave female act of UKMIX in 2008!

No. 2 (726 points): Madonna
Voters: crazycool, shanicefan, FreakyFlyBry, stee illmaceyougood, Siouxsie, UKMusicLova, Fan, Ahahuha, candyman, toni_pest, naughty, remiell, skapunk, gaz_uk, crazycrazy, android, TiagoRodrigues, Jocanth, pepster

I guess it will be a big surprise for many to see Madonna, the lady who beat Michael Jackson in the last big chart on UKMIX, not making it to No.1. Well, it’s even more surprising that there’s also a big gap of points between No. 2 and No.1 But Madonna has to make place for another much younger singer. You guess who – don’t you;-)
Madonna has done it all. She is a singer, songwriter, fashion icon, musical trendsetter, actress and entertainer. Since the middle of the 80ies (!!!) she’s releasing hit after hit due to her creative play with her image. She always knew how to provoke the world, f.e. with a black Jesus in her “Like a prayer”-video or her little sado-maso-like show in “Justify my life”. But she also knew when it was time to held it all classy, f.e. during her Evita-days. A few of her albums like “Like a prayer”, “True blue” and “Ray of light” rank always very high on the “best albums of all time”-lists the big music magazines compile from time to time. Madonna may be over 50 already but she’s still going strong and does heavy dance eroutines during her world tours. Unlike her male equivalent Michael Jackson – Madonna isn’t the queen of pop for past success – she still has it! She may not have the biggest voice but it went better over the years. It’s also not necessarily about the music when it comes to her – it’s about the whole person – the entertainer! Madonna is the queen of pop. And that’s why Janet and Britney will always stay little princesses (although they aren’t worse).
I really like Madonna and listen to her music since I was a little girl. I don’t buy her albums but own her hits compilations. She has a massive number of hitsingles and my faves are “Frozen”, “Rain”, “Vogue”, “Like a prayer”, “Live to tell”, “Papa don’t preach”, “Ysou’ll see” and “Beautiful stranger”.

No. 1 (834 points): Christina Aguilera
Voters: crazycool, shanicefan, FreakyFlyBry, stee illmaceyougood, UKMusicLova, Fan, stevieFM, urbanmusik, Ahahuha, candyman, toni_pest, naughty, remiell, abidhaq, skapunk, gaz_uk, crazycrazy, android, TiagoRodrigues, pepster, hello

I never expected that but it’s well deserved IMO. 22 of 25 voters voted for Christina Aguilera. Nine Times she was in the Top 10, two times the No. 1! Christina is THE FAVOURITE FEMALE ACT ON UKMIX! Congratulations! Christinas amount of points is also way ahead of the points the other acts got.
Christina Aguilera has the whole package. She sings better then almost all her peers. Many think she has the best voice of the next generation. Christina is also – like Madonna – a free spririt and swam herself free musically after her multi-platinum debut which was a mixture of teen pop and adult contemporary. The second album “Stripped” took four years and the result was worth the wait. “Stripped” is probably the best album by a female act of the new millennium. It has a large variety of music styles, great vocals and deeply personal lyrics. Then in 2006 Christina returned with her third album “Back to basics” which wasn’t as successful and strong musically as its predecessor but a great concept album which proved Christinas courage to do the music she likes and not the music that belongs to the actual mainstream. Christina also has a lucky hand with her videos. Many of them look like pure art, f.e. “Candy man”, “Fighter”, “Beautiful”, “The voice within” or “Hurt”. They always go hand in hand with her image changes. So she has learned a lot from Madonna when it comes to being a chameleon.
Aguilera has all it takes to stay on top for many years to come. I love her music very much and “Stripped” is the best album of a female act in this millennium. The only thing I could critize is, that Christina always tends to oversing and ad-lips way to much, especially on “Back to basics”. She should held back a bit more vocally. My fave songs of her are “Keep on singing my song”, “Soar”, “Get mine, get yours”, “Impossible”, “I’m ok”, “The voice within”, “Loving me 4 me”, “Lady Marmelade”, “Nobody wants to be lonely”, “Genie in a bottle”, “”Falsas esperanzas”, “Welcome”, “Back in the day” and “Mercy on me” among other - LOL. It’s strange cause most of them are album tracks.

OMG wooooo! Xtina is no1 over Madge! Still, everyone, all hail the Queen of Pop - Mariah Carey

joke

Seriously - Madonna started it all for all the women that followed - she is a living legend. I geuninely feel though that she is a mediocre talent. Just IMO

Xtina - the voice of her generation - a simply wonderful talent. She is sublime with some fantastic songs. So she has UKmix's fave pop album (Stripped) and she is UKmix's fave female act! Congrats :D

I think Madonna is a much more deserving winner, but it's great to see Christina so high. I do find her slightly overrated though. Madonna has had many more album that I would rate highly. "Ray Of Light", "True Blue", "Like A Prayer" and "Confessions On A Dancefloor" are all spectacular, whereas I only think highly of Christina's last two records. I found her debut quite dull, and I didn't enjoy her Christmas and Spanish albums at all.

Madonna:

Madonna - 3/5
Like A Virgin - 3/5
True Blue - 4/5
Like A Prayer - 4/5
Erotica - 2/5
Bedtime Stories - 4/5
Ray Of Light - 5/5
Music - 4/5
American Life - 2.5/5
Confessions On A Dance Floor - 4/5
Hard Candy - 2.5/5

Who's That Girl - 2/5
I'm Breathless - 2/5
Evita - 3.5/5

Average: 6.5/10

Christina:

Christina Aguilera - 3/5
Stripped - 5/5
Back To Basics - 4/5

Mi Reflejo - 2.5/5
My Kind Of Christmas - 2/5

Average: 6.6/10

With a few more records under her belt, Christina could be well on her way to become a new and better 'Madonna'. :)

Are you surprised?Think that the same persons who has voted put artist like A.Lennox(N 66) K.Bush (N49) Bjork "the little genius" (n 46), and a goddes like T.Turner (N 27)......so what can I say N 2 for Madge can be a great result, at least for this poll!
