Well done Aussies winning the First Test against the West Indies. Was a real come from behind win. Lucky our tail enders can bat a bit. :P

Agreed on all points compatriot.

Dunno how we'll go in the 2nd one though...supposed to be a real spinner's deck & Nathan Lyon isn't performing that well apparently, plus you've also got the inexperienced (at Test level) Michael Beer on the tour as well...rumour has it that we might be going for the dual spin option this Test. Would be a gutsy move since the last time we did that in a Test we lost.

Congrats to Matthew Wade on his maiden Test century. Sure helped us dig our way out of the hole we were in...now the Windies are in that same hole, 8 down for 165.

Yes well done Wadey and the tail enders yet again. The spin bowlers are enjoying this pitch.

Aussies wraped up the 3rd Test and the series against the West Indies. Well done to Clarkey and the boys and also to Chanderpaul who brought up 10,000 runs in Test cricket.

Andrew Strauss has resigned as England's Test captain and announced his retirement from professional cricket. :o Now that has come as a bit of a shock. New captain will be Alastair Cook.

Sri Lanka fans hang themselves to death after cricket defeat

COLOMBO: Two Sri Lankan youth unable to put up with the national team's defeat in the ICC World Twenty20 cricket final against the West Indies have committed suicide, police said on Monday.

17-year-old Ashan Lakshitha, who returned home after watching the match on a giant screen at city's Galle Face promenade, was found hanging on a mango tree early this morning.

Similarly, 21-year-old Mahendran Suresh from the central district town of Hatton hanged himself in his bed room.

Sri Lanka lost to West Indies last night by 36 runs, leaving a trail of disappointed fans.

This was Sri Lanka's fourth World Cup final loss (two 50 overs and two T20s) across two categories.

Well another summer of cricket in Australia has arrived with a drawn 1st Test match against South Africa. First day of the 2nd test and again Clarke to the rescue with a double tonne. That is four in a calender year. Also centuries to Warner and Hussey. :P

Michael Clarke is kicking cricketing arse. Glad he's my captain. 8-)

Hoping this one won't be a draw like the Gabba, but with the way SA fought back today, I've got a feeling this will be another close one. *bites fingernails* I really hope we can win, I'd rather not see Graeme Smith with a smug look on his face....let's keep on bashing Imran Tahir around the ground.

Methinks Ricky will be hanging up the cricketing spikes come the end of this series...or maybe the end of the summer. Rob Quiney's definitely played his last Test I reckon, unless Ricky does retire & they squeeze him in somewhere. I think the selectors may look more towards the youth angle though on that one.

You be right Shell, Ponting announced his retirement today from Test cricket. Lets hope Perth gives him a send off he deserves. A brilliant career comes to an end.

Indeed. I wasn't expecting it to happen until after the Test though...but I guess this just gives us further incentive to not only win the match & the series, but to send Ricky out on a high note. I really hope we can do it, but given the largely untested pace attack we may be going with (referring to potential debutantes Josh Hazlewood & John Hastings here), I'm erring on the side of caution. I hope they go with those 2 & leave Mitchell Johnson out though - I swear he's the most overrated bowler we've had in the modern era.

And lolz, Mitchell Johnson makes it into the side. Just as well he picked up 2 wickets, cos towards the end of the day he was back to his inconsistent best. Thought he started off well though. Nice watching Mitchell Starc rattle the stumps & John Hastings score his first Test wicket. (Ed Cowan should've taken that catch though.)

Anyway, this is going to be another thrilling match, given how poorly SA batted (or how well we bowled, whichever way you wish to look at it) & the 2 early wickets of Watson & Cowan. The latter better watch out, he might be next on the chopping block. Still hoping we can win, but like I said in the post above, I'm erring on the side of caution.

Will be great to hear the roar of the crowd when Ricky comes out tomorrow. Just hope he can get some decent runs & make a partnership with Dave Warner or even Michael Clarke when he comes in.

Need to get through the first session and hope the wicket gets a bit of sun on it. The South African bowlers look menacing. I think Starc has a future in Test cricket he looks a good bowler and South Africa have found a batsmen in Du Plessis.

Well now it's looking like a foregone conclusion, with South Africa bowling us out cheaply in the first innings and making a mockery of our 2nd string bowling attack in their 2nd innings. I hope we can salvage it through some Clarke or Hussey magic (or heck, Cowan or Warner magic would be handy too), but I'm not sure I can see it happening.

Sadly a miracle didn't happen today & SA won the series 1-0. Lovely gesture by Graeme Smith & co towards Ricky Ponting, forming a guard of honour when he came onto the field. A shame he couldn't get more runs...shame Australia couldn't get any more runs really. Nice tail-wagging effort from Mitchell Starc though. Showed our top & middle order batsmen what they ought to be doing/ought to have done.

Now to the next series against Sri Lanka & the big question - who will fill Ricky's shoes? My money's on either Hughes or Khawaja (if the latter performs well in the tour match, he'll probably be a shoe-in), but I wouldn't be surprised to see Rob Quiney come back into the team. It's out of those 3 for me.

Second Test over and Man of the match Mitchell Johnson is proving us all wrong with match figures of 6 for 79 with very hostile bowling, as well as a brilliant unbeaten 92 with the bat. The Sri Lankans look shattered and depleted. Jackson Bird had a good debut and Watson is injured again :-?

Amazed about Mitchell Johnson's impact on this Test. TBH he's been so overrated in the past that my family and I groan with dismay every time his name is mentioned....nice to see him having a positive effect on the match. Would've been nice to see him get 100, but I guess he ran out of partners. Not that we needed a really high score anyway by the looks of things.

Today is full of big announcements Mike Hussey has just announced his retirement from Test Cricket after the upcoming Sydney Test. He goes at a time of his choosing and on the top of his game a great cricketer.
