She's in and out of the studio, but that's been going on for months now.

For the new record I want her to explore various themes again, yes I love me some booty popping songs, some steamy slow jams, some carefree dance tracks, but I also want some songs in which she could let out her grief for the loss of her brother, her anger for the treatment she recieved since the Super Bowl... or some other deep feelings she has inside.

Janet went through so much during the last years and I believe she has to say more than how much she loves to give head to her man!

True, but I don't think she will ever sing about the Superbowl fiasco and how it affected her career, it's been 8 years and 3 studio albums after that incident.

I just want some songs with meaning, whether it be love, pain, grief, anger, joy. 'Discipline' had none of that really.

Of course I don't mean a Super Bowl shout out, but I can't believe in the last years she didn't feel the injustice and felt some anger... and since Janet angry songs are pure fire it would be nice if she can vent her frustrations like she used to do!

I'm glad at least she's making the most of life and enjoying herself. :)

She has such a beautiful smile. It's a shame she was ashamed of it.

Yeah but that could be because she has pretty much given up writing her own songs in the past few years. Which is what I miss I also want some songs with substance.

It's high time Janet returned to the scene. She's been gone way too long now. And I hope when she comes back she doesn't disappoint.

Biscuits, has she signed to a label?

What she needs is some really strong and DEEP music... She must be having something to tell and that's what could do well now, no mindless "Have some fun"-songs and no whispered sexy songs.

I don't know what could possibly work for Janet in today's music industry, maybe a hot collab with a hot male, I don't know... Pitbull if u want to see it this way... lol... but if she comes back on her own , you know how radio DJ's are... they'd possibly ignore her... and she needs promo in Italy, UK, possible markets, Japan! ... she's Janet Jackson, not a nobody!!!
I wish ageism didn't exist, we'd have this woman on top along Kylie, Madonna, and Mariah... unlike MC and Madonna , Janet has great singles as of her latest albums.... but it'd be cool if we were to see them all on top, and add Celine in the soup too! I'd be happy! :D :D :D !!

I actually think Janet should do a a fun, carefree, totally uplifting album. No super depressing, deep stuff, and I doubt she will considering she seems so happy and in love these days. She says, after all, that her albums reflect what happened in her life while she was recording. Maybe she should channel some of her frustration over the whole Jackson family mess etc, into a rock song like "What About" or "Black Cat" or something motivational like "Can't Be Stopped". I don't know...

Anyway, I think her album should be mostly DANCE and uptempo. Her dance songs are giving me life at the moment: "Come On Get Up", "All For You", "2Nite", "Rock With U", "When I Think Of You", "The Best Things In Life Are Free", "R&B Junkie". She excels at that kind of music. What I think she should totally lay off is the whispered baby making crap, like you said. I LOVE some of that from her, but, if she dropped that for one album I think it would do her many favors.

I agree Discipline was great and the singles released from it where hot yet they flopped, unfortunately the more time passes the more it's going to be difficult.

However, in between those years, she had so many singles out. From 1986-2002, she was either releasing a single or was featured in a single. :)

Ok so I'll be the one to say it.
Prepare for the rant....

SHE'S JANET F@#$ING JACKSON!!!

If she WANTED to record music and get it out there what's stopping her ?
She doesn't NEED a label, hell, she doesn't even NEED to sell millions because its clear she has more money and connections than we'll ever know.
What's stopping her from doing a Live Nation style deal?

This woman IS a legend but she has confusingly, frustratingly, stagnated.
The Janet of the "Velvet Rope" and "Janet" albums would never have taken the whole "Nipple-gate" fiasco lying down.
She's looooong overdue for her "Human Nature" style track.
It feels, to me, that the fight, determination and "message" her work used to have is missing.
That doesn't mean I'm taking anything away from her more recent albums but Janet releasing sexy "hot dance tracks" that are akin to the current music climate hasn't worked has it?
Why?

She is a fearless performer. Her fire is STILL there when she takes to the stage to perform her old material but I have to wonder what stops her from translating that essence, the reason her fans love her for, into new work ?

Fear?
Complacency?
Loss of touch with what her fan base wants?
Listening to what A&R people think is "hot" ?

Especially now, with all the drama surrounding her family, the time for something raw, honest and brave.
It would be criminal for her to become a "hits" artist when she has so much more to give and so much more we want to hear.
Happy endings are just stories that haven't finished yet...

There's always something to look forward to in every Janet album. I am not asking for too much, I don't really need her to pull a The Velvet Rope or Rhythm Nation 1814 in terms of artistry, I just want a new album!!

Just listening to "Do It 2 Me" - definately one of the highlights on 20 Y.O. Definately feels like a classic Janet song to me. It was wierd how 20 Y.O was supposed to be a celebration of "Control" and was supposed to be "Classic Janet" but in fact, it's like the anomoly album in her discography

"Do It 2 Me" still sounds fresh and typical Janet to me though. Awesome song.
